The offensive playcalling killed us again. It's a typical "square peg in a round hole" scenario with Jacquemain. Either change the offense, or change the QB. If you're stuck with a certain QB, then CHANGE THE OFFENSE.

http://www.dailymail.com/Sports/200711210094BREAKING NEWS: McClanahan headed to Akronby Rich StevensDaily Mail sportswriterNitro High basketball star Brett McClanahan had decided to play football partially because he had not gotten as many Division I basketball scholarship offers as expected. It turned out the 6-foot-3 senior got the only one he needed.McClanahan, who has scored 1,378 career points and was a All-State Class AAA first team selection as a junior last season, has signed a letter-of-intent to play college basketball at Mid-American Conference member Akron, the Daily Mail learned today. The Zips finished 26-7 last year, losing by one point to Miami (Ohio) in the MAC championship game.McClanahan had played only basketball during his career at Nitro until this fall when he opted to strap on the pads for a go at football. He finished his senior season with 58 receptions for 1,284 yards and 11 touchdowns in Coach Scott Tinsley’s offense. As a basketball player, McClanahan averaged 23.3 points as a junior and hit 64 3-pointers, while averaging 5.2 assists and 4.1 steals per game. He shot 73.9 percent from the free throw line and is 192-of-255 from the foul line during his career.Last Jan. 22, McClanahan scored 47 points against hurricane in a 79-70 victory. That matched Huntington star O.J. Mayo for the highest-scoring individual performance in the state in the 2006-07 season.McClanahan also has 202 career 3-pointers. His point total makes him the Wildcats’ No. 3 career scorer behind Jason Beller (1992-2000) with 1,543 and Jeff Clark (1996-2000) with 1,361 points.Last year, Coach Dean Lee — who resigned in the offseason to follow his daughter during her senior year at Winfield High — said that McClanahan has “established himself as one of the premier players in the state. He developed more and more as a star.”This season McClanahan will play for his third head coach in four years. Former St. Albans Coach Tex Williams is the new coach at Nitro.

Why not? We have nothing to play for, nothing to lose, and we already know that both CJs suck. If KC sucks too, so be it. At least we tried something different because the things we have been doing clearly are not working.

KD refuses to schedule any team that will not give us a return home game. That means that teams like Duke and OSU are out. Why should schools treat your team with respect when they are willing to settle for a almost-assured loss with nothing in return, except for "exposure", exposure for what you really are: a team with no self-respect? So we have that 1 in 1000 chance of beating them on the road, big deal. It's one less home game for the fans and the seniors. The players like this policy, and every single "big" school has this policy. Why shouldn't we do the same?

Winthrop will be the first true test of the season. Temple is an unknown, as to how good they are . Binghamton looks terrible.

We Can be Patient with Dambrot - but not JD
ZachTheZip replied to ZipAnalyst's topic in Akron Zips Basketball
Actually, KD coached at CMU in the 90's for a little while. He was doing fine there, but due to some locker room talk he lost his job. He is and will be a good coach for us for many years. You're right. I completely forgot about that. That was many years ago, and I just remembered him coming from high school to coach at college. -
Last years ending proved that we really have only one chance, and that's winning the MACC. Nothing else will get us into the postseason, not until the rest of the MAC teams start improving. Akron had the best RPI out of all MAC teams last year. Many were 200+ and really dragged down the rest of the conference. It's all about conference affiliation, it doesn't matter how good you are if your conference is crap, you won't get in unless you win it. That's why KD is scheduling teams that emulate MAC-level teams and MAC style of play. To prepare for our ONLY chance of going dancing.

KD is still learning, just like JD. Neither of them had any college HC experience before coming to Akron. They both deserve a few more years before we start judging them, but we also can't wait too long for results like we have with some past coaches. I like both coaches and see quite a bit of potential that they can only unlock with more time and experience. They are both pretty quick learners. -
Akron is seeded #14 overall and will enjoy a 1st round bye and a home game. CONGRATS!

There really is nothing left to play for this season, except to send the seniors out on a good note. Like both of you have said, He can't be any worse than what we have already seen, so why not? He was getting ready to go in against Bowling Green since CJ11 was "suspended" for an entire half-game. He is eligible, but I think it has to do with player loyalty. JD wanted HIS recruits that he hand-picked from high-school, not a transfer that he accepted. Then again, why would he accept another QB unless he had doubts about all four of the other ones (CJ11 just plain bad, CJ7 runs too much and fumbles, Hakes couldn't even compete with CJ11 or CJ7, Rodgers was too young but should develop)?

Here's how to vote:JOE BRUIN over Cosmo: Joe already has 6 losses, and Cosmo only has 5SEYMOUR over Goldy: same record, and I don't know if either has a chance at the playoffs, but Goldy is more dangerous should he get in.ZIPPY over Hairy Dawg: Dawg is in already, and now they are just voting to spoil out perfect season. Let's put them back in their place.OTTO over Big Red: Otto has 1 more loss than BR, and BR could move to the playoffs with a win.HOKIEBIRD over Cocky: Cocky is in last place, but is dangerous and could get in with a win depending on tiebreakersCAVMAN over Monte: winner gets in, and I would rather see Cavman than Monte.

Looks like recruiting is finally starting to pick up. We have a long way to go before we can catch up with Temple and Miami, though. Do you think that the two games on ESPN2 helped at all? I'm surethe win over OU helped quite a bit.

It was like that anyway. KD knows that the MAC will not get a 2nd bid to either tournament. He scheduled specifically to prepare us for the MAC teams we will play in the tourney. Akron could have had 29 wins last year and still not gotten an at large NCAA bid, and because of the way the idiots select the NIT based on name only we wouldn't have been in that either. At least we won't play any teams that will blow us out and get our starters injured just before conference play starts, like some teams insist on doing.
-
AKRON WINS! 74-72. We have left the tourney with a 2-1 record, and now start a homestand. I expect a dramatic improvement in this team after they get some rest and have a chance to watch film and practice a bit.
-
Akron timeout. We have the ball with 16 seconds left tied at 72. Akron can take the last shot to win it.
-
Tied at 72. 43 seconds left. Tenn State ball.
-
Akron up 69-65 with 3:57 left. The Refs are calling everything they can. Both teams are fouling left and right without even doing anything.
-
Akron up 55-49 with 9:47 left. Akron really can't defend the three. I'm sure once they get some rest and time to practice that will improve.
-
Akron's RPI is more than enoug to get a bye. Our ranking should better as well.
-
What's up with this game? ESPN shows that we won 38-28! I've never seen such a low score! That should be the halftime score, or something. Can anyone confirm this?Never mind. I just turned on the radio. It is a half-time score. Stupid ESPN getting up my hopes like that.

It was 1-0 in the second overtime. The bracket will be announce tomorrow on ESPNews, but I didn't catch the time. Check the TV guide.

Akron vs. Portland State game thread
ZachTheZip replied to ZachTheZip's topic in Akron Zips Basketball
The injuries are hurting us far more than the constant line-up changes. Wood is definitely injured, as is Middleton, Salee, and pretty much everyone on the team not named Goddard. The Zips MUST win to salvage this trip to Alaska, but the game is very early, and they have no time to rest or practice. Last night's game was at 8:00, and today's is at 11:30. It's going to be tough, but hopefully they can grind it out. it's great practice for the MAC tourney, where every game is close and competitive. -

Catch and shoot to get to OT. Less than a second left. Game over. Akron loses 66-63. I'm going to sleep now. See you at the soccer game. -

We need Goddard out there. Nobody else is hitting anything.
