JA puts usin the red zone. We can't afford to get a FG, though.
-
Do we have any run blocking scheme in the playbook? Did the O-line coach lose those pages?
-
Geeze... We have 8 people blocking for Jacq and he still gets under pressure!FAKE PUNT! 1st Down!
-
Bad decision making is the hallmark of this season: Bad decisions by the QBs, the Coaches, the players off the field...
-
Big 4th down stop there.Akron needs to figure something out. Throw to other WRs.
-
Rugby Punt. WTF?The Defense shows up but what the hell happened to the O? Akron runs a "spread" offense that can't spread the ball, a running game that is unable to run foward due to the O-line, and two QBs that flat-out suck.
-
That was a momentum changer. Miami failed to score after getting that fumblecalled their way. Hopefully they come out tough for the second half. And CHANGE IT UP on offense. Do something different. Do something daring. Something to get a first down. Our playcalling seems to be all-or-nothing. That doesn't work with our current talent. Get down the field ten yards at a time. That's all you need. 10 yards, not hope for a big play or lose 5 on another freakin' play that goes sideways.

Damnit Cj11! Make up your mind! Run, pass, or throw it away! Don't do all three at the same time!Maybe this team needs an offensive spark. Cj7 may not be as good a QB as CJ11, but at least he can move the ball.

We're getting killed on the right side on Defense.
-
You're darn right they're open. The problem is... Jacquemain's progression goes: Jabari, Open running lane, throw it away. He doesn't even look to see if Fuqua somebody else is open unless the play is designed to throw it to a RB

A note to Coach Moorhead: THROW IT FORWARD!

I retract me statement of waiting for the season to end. It would seem that the season did end on Tuesday after being swept in a tournament matchup. Yep. Just realized that. I like the attitude too. We can't settle for mediocrity any longer. If a coach can't win or isn't showing improvement, we'll find someone who can. It's just a shame to see one of our longest-running coaches get sacked like that.
-
So it would seem.Looks like Mack is ready to start putting in "his people" at the HC spots. I'm suprised that he didn't even wait until the end of the season, which is just around the corner. That tells me that there is more to the story than what we know.

Wow. Nice company to be in, even if they didn't get in to the postseason either. Those other schools would get into a new tournament simply because of all the $$$ they bring with them.I wonder if this new tournament will force the merger of the NCAA tourney and the joke of an NIT to expand the field to 96 teams with the top 32 teams getting a bye-week? It would make sense.

I have to side with skhorbotly on this one. If you want to be treated like a big program, you have to start treating yourself like one first. "Big" programs don't go ANYWHERE without a return trip. I lose a lot of respect for a team when it plays a home and away against a team that will almost certainly beat them in a blowout both games, and looks at that 0.01%chance of beating a ranked team as an "oppurtunity". All it does is give the other team a win, and you a loss. Nobody cares whether you "almost" won, or could hang with them for 3 quarters before being put away. The conference as a whole drops when you lose in OOC games, regardless of who you lose to. Major schools never play any team that isn't somewhat their equal or lower. Why should we? They pad their win column against weak teams who hapen to play other tough teams. The RPI is 25% your opponent's opponent's record. We can get a high rating by beating teams that are average mid-majors who play killer schedules, like the rest of the MAC. They do the dirty work for us.Geting your ass handed to you by Duke is not a good reason for a recruit to sign with us. "You get to play Duke" is a terrible excuse and gives you no status, except as a team with a losing record because you played a team you knew you couldn't beat and settled for a loss. "Any time, anywhere" only works when you know you can win.

Here's where we learn our position in the sports world. OSU got to #1 by playing a bunch of inferior opponents and winning all the games they should have, until saturday.Akron has the oppurtunity to go undefeated with this schedule. Will they be #1? Most certainly not, unless every other team in the nation has at least 4 losses. But I think that if we win the games we are supposed to and don't screw up, we'll see.

I'd lean Cosmo over Cocky. Cocky is also a former winner and also part of the rabid SEC. Brigham Young does have a larger enrollment at 33300 vs. 23700.I would think we'd want Otto over Seymour. Support for Seymour has been sad but enrollment and moral at Syracuse is pretty low. Prop Otto up to get him into the playoffs and then let him finally go away.Totally agree with the rest of your picks. Really want to knock Goldy and HairyDawg outta here. Big schools and alumni base.Go Zippy! You may be on to something there. Looking at the early trends, Cosmo is looking at blowing out Cocky, but Otto is a lost cause.Hairy Dawg and Monte are putting up very tough fights right now, but we can't let them win. I realy really don't want to face them in the playoffs.
-
So Zippy is now 9-0 thanks to the great efforts made by many Zips fans over the last two months. Now it is crunch time. With two weeks left, lots of schools are vying for the remaining playoff spots. Here's how we need to vote this week inorder to ensure ourselves a better chance once the playoffs commence:Cocky over Cosmo - I still don't know why, but Cosmo just scares me and I think he could be a major force if given the chanceSeymour over Otto - Poor Seymour has had a very rough time in this competition, with only three wins.Zippy over Goldy - Goldy could be a tough one given the size of the U of Minnesota if they ever get organisedCavman over Big Red - Cavman is practically in, and we can eliminate Big Red either now or next week. I say now.Joe Bruin over Monte - Monte must lose this week! Under no circumstances can he be allowed to win.Hokiebird over HairyDawg - HairyDawg is in it to win it, and those Georgia fans can be nuts, as can be any SEC fans. A win and they get in, which can not be allowed. So congrats on 9-0! We're almost there, but there's still work to be done to make sure we have an easier road through the playoffs.

Thank God I won't have to endure all that fake hype leading up to next saturday now.

So I was browsing around Youtube and to my suprise I found this video, which happened to play right before the Zips were introduced on the floor on Thursday against Walsh. I think it might be played before every home game.University of Akron Psyche
-
Winthrop, Austin Peay, and Dayton are the most likely candidates.
-
Middleton, the person I wanted to see play the most, was out with an injury.Sweich will likely redshirt. We foul too much.KD has a bit of learning to do still with this team.
-
Tonight at 7:00 the Zips take on Walsh at the JAR in a pre-season scrimmage. Today is the day we see who our PG could be. And also the first time we will see our freshmen in action. Everybody that can needs to be there, together we will let the team know that last season is over and we are starting anew. We can finally focus on this season and leave the past where it belongs. An interesting side-note: two senior players on Walsh played for STVM with LeBron. Sound familiar? With the recent rash of D-II upsets over big-name schools (Findley beating OSU, Grand Valley State beating Michigan State), Akron had better be prepared to play and to win, even if they are still figuring some stuff out.

Last year, JD complained about a lack of leaders on the field. There was no one that could inspire the team to play their hearts out. It looks like JD figured out that as the head coach it's his job to be the leader. Some players can emulate his leadership on the field, but ultimately it has to start with him. JD is still learning as a head coach. At the very least he deserves at least one more year to get this team together. If we get another collapse, then we need to seriously start thinking about other options. After all, we will have the nicest facilities in the country that can be used as a recruiting tool for a new coach, if needed, but I don't think it will come to that. How many MAC teams have been consistently good over the past four years? None. Akron is close to doing it, but right now, there are no teams that are good for that long, and most have a monumental collapse of a season somewhere in between the seven or eight win seasons. We have been consistently average the last four years. That's a step up from jumping from 8-4 to 4-8 and then 9-3 and 2-10 like some teams do every other year. We have found a formula to avoid the really terrible seasons, and now we have a base to build upon and improve slowly in incremental steps. JD can do it and the team seems to grow as he grows as a head coach. When he regresses, so does the team. When he has that fire in his eyes like last night, well, you have seen what can happen.
