For those of us that are staying up to listen, here's the game thread. This game is a big one. Portland State is tough, and unless Akron has improved dramatically since yesterday, I am very worried. A win will help greatly with our SOS by putting us against a very good team instead of one that has been knocked out with a loss already. Ronnie Steward not playing is really hurting us. The injuries are mounting. This will be a tough test and will tell us just where we stand this year.

2005 raised expectations. That MAC championship was possibly the best thing to ever happen to the program, because we will no longer accept mediocrity. It gave us a glimpse of what could be. Now that we've seen it, there's no going back. The fans NEED to let UA know what we think. We need to make them hear us, and tell them that we want a winning team NOW, not in some far off future year that will never arrive after we go through an endless building process. Temple and Buffalo are improving at a dramatic rate, why aren't we? The more we watch this team without saying what we really think to the people who don't want to hear it, the more te administration is fooled into thinking that we are content with what we have, and they don't have to actually expend any effort. Go to the games, but be vocal. If you don't show up, they can't hear you. Let them know when we don't like what we're seeing. UA has too many people show up and then just sit on their ass the whole game, not making one peep, and only clapping a few times when everyone else is doing it (this part goes for basketball, too). Now I'm glad they are there, but they are not passionate. The student section has impressed me a few times this year, but they still don't have the numbers to take a stand and let everyone in the stadium know when they don't like what they see on the field. Personally, I scream and yell, and boo whenever we do that stupid sideways offense. Many others do too, but it's not enough. We can all see the inherent failure that exists within those plays, but as many have said, coaches would rather be right than win. It would take a shock to their system to get them to change, no matter how horrible the playcalling is.Attendance will suffer next year with another horrible schedule an the AD pushes home games away until the new stadium is built, but the resulting bad records will keep away recruits that would provide the foundation to make the team as good as the stadium they will play in.I'm going to be there, and be vocal. They'll know when I don't like what I see. I only hope the rest of the fanbase has the stones to be vocal with me.

The four remaining team in the tournament are Colorado State (Beat Oregon State), Tennessee State (beat Alaska), Akron (Beat SC Upstate), and Portland State (beat Indiana University Purdue University at Indianapolis). All remaining team are solid mid-majors. I think Akron just needs a good night's rest and then they should be out of whatever funk they were in yesterday. Hopefully they practice their free-throw shooting. Quick question: do we have a free-throw coach? Some teams have them, and it helps the team dramatically. He wouldn't need to be a full-time coach, just a guy that shows up to a few practices to work on the proper form with the players.

Tomorrow we play Portland State since they beat IUPUI tonight. Hopefully the Zips improve and the coach saw some things that he can fix.

You know, SC Upstate already had a real game under their belts when they played us. That could have been a factor. Teams improve the most from game 1 to game 2, they say. Let's hope that's true.

Akron wins 64-60. Hopefully this was just first-game jitters and KD trying to find out who his playmakers are.

Holy crap. USCU missed three threes in a row and Wood goes to the foul line. This is way too close. Wood is horrible at the line.

Losing to a bad team to open the season last year ruined our season. This had better not happen again.

This game is wayyy too close for my liking. Who knows, Maybe USCU is a decent team, but Akron should be dominating this regardless.

The boards I can understand, since USCU has a 7'-2" guy out there, but the FTs are inexcubable. They're the reason we lost most of last year's losses. They kill us. We're only up 55-47. It should be completely out of reach for the other team by now.
