I really don't think this was a "set-up" by K-ent students or fans. Frankly, most students at K-ent don't care about U of A enough to deface their own stadium.I think this was done by someone tied to U of A but not necessarily a AK Rowdy or whatever its called.Just put yourself in our place, if this happened to you with the same stuff written but geared towards Akron, I'm sure the fingers would be pointed right back.Keep the rivalry clean and fun, and by no means is this funny, as some of you think it is.

ESPN Article on the Zips (and LeBron)

Welcome aboard. Good to have you here.Nice post & thanks for setting the record straight on your facilities. The thing that lots of folks are NOT aware of is Can't State's level of success in the non-revenue generating sports. Their Reese/Jacoby results speak for themselves. This success demands and deserves good facilities. Porter will hopefully get this for Men's Futbol soon. But in a similar fashion, "I really do have to say you don't know what you are talking about" regarding KD and a quick exit. This belief (or is it hope?) that fans of other conference teams have that KD is quick to the door reflects a lack of understanding of his vision, plan & commitment for UofA and the men's hoops program. It is wishful thinking on your part to believe that KD is out the door with the next high-level offer. Will he be here forever? Perhaps not .. but at the moment he's got the support of the University, administration & community to try and make his vision for Akron Basketball a reality. I personally believe that if these things continue & he feels his efforts are being rewarded / supported in the right way .. he'll continue to be here. Should those things change (see: Huggins, Bob, 1989), then he should look elsewhere, because he deserves nothing but the best support and opportunity.Moving the program upstream competitively & facility wise will likewise move it upstream as far as prestige / compensation & opportunity is concerned. There's 2 ways to be the coach of a high level D1 team: #1 Win at each level and keep moving up until you get your shot at an elite gig (see Pearl, Bruce or Matta, Thad). #2 Transform the program you run into one of those high level D1 schools (see Monson, Dan). For now, KD is working on #2 .. and it's a process, not a quick return.Just my $0.02 ..Fair enough. haha.I think its the hope of every MAC school to keep their coach. I personally was a little surprised JC left for TCU... a lot of fans thought he was going to be comfortable here...Only time will say. -

I think Lebron James is nothing but good for Akron, but it will not be what makes or breaks you. The shuffling of coaches is what happens due to success and the conference being the MAC. Akron's coach, along with any MAC coach, will most likely leave when the opportunity arises. As far as upgrades to facilities, I really do have to say you don't know what you are talking about. Within the last 5 years, K.e.n.t. State has made major renovations to all of its facilities and continues to do so. Our baseball field is one of the top in the MAC, that was recently completed Upgraded Baseball Field (your forum changes the word K.e.n.t. to "Can't" so this link won't work unless you change "Can't to K.e.n.t.), our NEW field hockey field is very nice Field Hockey, our golf facilities and training centers are some of the best in the country New Golf Center, the MACC center has been kept up nicely with minor renovations, new score boards and jumbo-trons. The field house is relatively new and is getting new turf this year. Our football stadium is finishing phase two of a multi-million dollar renovation (pics are located on Dix Stadium feed at NCAABBS.com. The last facility that would need a major renovation would be our MACC center and it is in the works, along with a dedicated basketball practice facility. K.e.n.t's new President has put the emphasis on academics and has increased the funding for more research and more faculty. As a student at K.e.n.t. State, that makes me happy. I for one am proud of the way K.e.n.t. State has managed to keep its facilities up and very competitive while keeping student cost down and being very smart about it. Akron is making major strides, but outside of the private funding for the new stadium, I as a student would worry about the recent news about Akron's bond rating being at risk because of the outrageous spending by the administration. I understand it takes money to get ahead but, with the trend for NE ohio going the way it is and the expected decline in traditional aged students in the next 10 years, it might be time to be a little conservative with the spending? No disrespect meant in this post, just trying to set the record clear on K.e.n.t. State's facilities, a little research might be warranted before making assumptions.Off note, I'm excited to see the new stadium, hopefully I will be in this part of the United States next year... -
I do not downplay the reasons why K-S-U has those stereotypes, however I do not agree with being called anti-American anti-troop yadda yadda, calling any group of people that due to actions of past people shows your class... sorry, it's a little harsh. With your logic, I guess I understand why K-S-U students consider all Akron students as drug dealing thugs... if we are going to apply stereotypes to entire student bodies LOL ;)Disclaimer: I'm being sarcastic with most of this, please do not take too much offense. Tends to happen with online forums.

Yeah, but you gotta admit that there is something very satisfying about watching liberal organizations attacking the mascot of a liberal bastionLOL, this is a funny story. The truth is, PETA sucks, always has. They would be way more effective if they were more ethical in their approaches. Also, it's important to understand that K-S-U paid a great deal of money to keep this eagle alive. He (or She) is blind in one eye, we adopted it from a refuge center and pay to have it fed and cared for. The alternative for this bird would be either death or being in a small cage. Instead it gets a comfortable life. And about the liberal statement, believe it or not K-S-U students are split 50/50 on conservative/liberal ideologies. Just throwing that out LOL

More on Akron's Medical Future

That would be good, as much as I was raised to hate Akron lol, I think if we collaborated more, we'd give schools like OSU a run for their money.Alumni idea is good too. -

I think that the partnership possibilities for Akron are great, but I don't know why you have to try to drag K.E.N.T through the mud when you post something exciting about your school? It's important to understand that May 4th is a historical day in our country's history, whether you agree with the actions of the protestors or not.As for K.E.N.T not having an positive momentum, I think thats an unfair assessment. Recently in the news was K.E.N.T State establishing a landmark partnership with a Turkish University in which they will be leasing buildings on campus for 2.5 million to make one of the first Turkish cultural centers. Also K.E.N.T State is in the process of establishing an office in China. K.E.N.T is doing great things like Akron, just keep your eyes open. Have a great day! -
The idea of Akron and Can't merging has been around for a long time. Unfortunately, it isn't going to happen. No way will Ohio's government allow for any school to become larger or more powerful than OSU. As far as the main campus argument, which is moot because it will never happen, two main campuses isn't uncommon. Look at Rutgers for example, they have two distinct large campuses located within 10 minutes of eachother, its all considered "main campus" but have different designations like "south campus" and "north campus". It could be done.I wouldn't be a good Can't fan if I didn't say that Can't State is the dominant school building a bunch of buildings alone doesn't make you better. But I do recognize that Akron has done a lot for their image and I think it's great. Good luck this year in football, except when you play us and I hope you guys will enjoy our improvements to our stadium including our high-def video score board and new entrances/seating. I can't wait to see Akron's new stadium soon.

Word has it that they will be paying him $400-700k. TCU recently came into a huge gift to the BBall program and there will be new facilities.Chances are, if KD could get akron to the level and consistency of Can't and was offered another position, he'd be gone too. Curse of the Mid-Major.

I caution you from making generalizations about K-S-U fans based on a few. I had the pleasure of attending last night's game and sitting three rows up, which was awesome. I also sat next to some great Akron fans who were very kind and calm. However, the class-less holding of the .13 signs and the chanting of "DUI" really tarnished the Akron fan's image. Even the Akron fan next to me was disgusted.I'm sure some Can't fans do some things that other Can't fans do not approve of.Fans will be fans... best of luck next year.

Come on now, that comment was a little out-landish. None of those student that were there are here now. Can't State is actually very split on its poltical ideologies, you would be surprised to know that its about 50% conservative and 50% liberal here at Can't State.
-
Can't State actually has top 25 Gymnastics, Wrestling and Golf lol... just to make that correction.I like this convo. though. I think the MAC prevents a lot of our schools from advancing. I view the MAC as more of a incubator for teams to do well and leave for bigger and better conferences... unfortunately Marshall couldn't make it outside of the womb.

Hello, I sometimes browse zipsnation.org to see what's going on, and I couldn't help myself to interject here. Singletary has a very rough life coming from a very difficult family situation. While there's never an excuse for bad behavior, I just ask that you really get all the facts before you label someone. As for JC, I have nothing but respect for this man, and so do many who are outside of the Can't State community. Can't State acted promptly with the suspension and I think thats commendable. They could have let it go, no one holds a team to team rules other than the team itself. It shows character of both JC and the AD.Best of luck to you guys in your next game.
