Oh really? How bout the Virginia State Player of the Year, 3 first-team all state of Florida recruits? for the 5th best mid-major recruiting class in the country where not a single MAC team is mentioned in the top 20???http://rivalshoops.rivals.com/content.asp?CID=682458I'll be fifth behind Memphis and Gonzaga any day? Oh yeah one of our recruits (he was only 2nd team all-state) is the leading freshmen shot blocker in the country, and 15th overall. How do you like dem apples?P.S. My bad we're 57 not 58.

You don't think you should consider the same? You've never beaten us before, you are 0-2 in the series against us.
-
Guess what buddy? We're not playing your conference. We're playing Akron...and VCU is 18 spots higher in the RPI. We're 58, you're 75. Yeah I think we got shafted. We play a team 18 spots below us in the RPI on the road who just happens to be 55-2 over the last couple of seasons at home. If that is not a shaft, I'm not sure what is. Which means you can't help us, win or lose. We win, we maybe go up 1 spot, we lose we drop 10. I think respect goes both ways. If you can't respect your opponent, then that sucks for you. At the VCU board, we don't like the game we were given, but we certainly respect Akron and their record at home. Guess what? The Mac is right above the CAA...and the CAA is in a huge downswing this year. Drexel, ODU and Hofstra are horrible this year, and they were at the top of the conference last year. ODU beat Georgetown AT Georgetown last year and got an at-large bid, Drexel beat Syracuse AT Syracuse, Villanova AT Villanova, Creighton AT Creighton and several other wins and was one of the biggest snubs in the NCAA's last year. Hofstra was a mid 30 rpi team the year Mason went on their Final Four Run and was another snub from the tourney. They had a better RPI last year than Akron this year. They all stink now and are rebuilding. Ask any college bball fans about the CAA vs. the MAC over the past few years and the CAA will take the cake overwhelmingly. There was a reason we were being compared with the MVC and A10 and not the MAC. This year is a down year for the conference and we concede that. Even then the MAC is only 1 spot better. Look at the quality of recruits coming into CAA schools and you'll see they far outshine the MAC as well. When I said we've beaten better teams than you...I meant that we have beaten teams better than you...not teams you've played.

Yes...when the OVC is the 30th ranked conference in the RPI and the CAA is 14th in a huge down year for the CAA. It's a humongous stretch. Guys remember who the higher ranked team here is. You guys are talking as if we're lucky to get you guys. Most people in the CAA consider this a huge shaft job. I didn't talk any smack until some douchebag came on here saying that we suck and compared us to Austin Peay! Are you serious? Have they ever been higher than a 15 seed? You guys need to show VCU some respect too. You may very well win this game, but don't walk around like your entitled to it. Remember VCU has played far better opponents and beat them. We've also lost to worse teams than Akron. I'm just saying that this is a VCU team that is very capable of winning this game. And to say that you'll beat us in Richmond shows more arrogance...we certainly don't have Akron's dominant record at home. I think we're only 106-19 at the Siegel Center. But it shows a lack of respect...If TEMPLE can keep it to a 2 point game, I see no reason why it's not possible for us to win. And you shouldn't give any more reason for Eric Maynor to have any bulletin board material. God knows how many teams he haunts to this day. Greg Paulus and Greivis Vasquez still shiver when they think about him.

I apologize to the other 5 fans on this board for any offense. I just get peeved when people disrespect my team with no due cause. You guys are not respected generally in College basketball and a win against us will go a long way towards getting in the public and national consciousness. I wish you guys luck, you have a great shot at home where you are very good. I look forward to a great game, and hopefully meeting several of your more civil fans at the game!

Please...what I call sucking is having one NCAA appearance in the history of your school as a 15 seed in 1986. What I call sucking is having 26 wins in a year and still getting passed over by not only the NCAA but NIT as well. You can talk smack when you actually do something and have a history as a team. Gimme a break. Austin Peay has been to more tourney's than Akron at least.VCU is a pretty good team. Beat Duke and took Pitt to OT, I was a Pitt fan before I came to Akron, I was from the Burgh...but Akron sucks? Hahaha I didn't know the current status of a team was judged on our 20 year history of being D-1. I can't wait until we beat you by 20 in the JAR.That was just a response to an overzealous fan who just mentioned us in the same sentence with Austin Peay (OVC teams??? Are you kidding me?). I did not mean any offense to the rest of you sane-minded fans. Anyone who says VCU sucks has no idea what they're talking about. I was just putting things in perspective when you tell a team that they suck when they are 5-8 in NCAA tournament games and your own team has played one 22 years ago that you lost. The irony was all I was pointing out...as is the fact that Austin Peay has been the tournament more. Or the fact that with 26 wins you did not make a postseason tournament. A fan certainly has balls to tell a team they suck when that team is coming off a tourney win against Duke and 2nd round exit in overtime to Pitt, and their own team hasn't even played a tourney game in 22 years. Just saying...trust me, we got hosed with this matchup and deserved better. You won't help us whether we win or lose. I really, really doubt you'll beat us by 20. If you do beat us...it will be a tough, hard fought game.P.S. Where are all the fans??? This board is sooo quiet, it's creepy.

Yeah...I think that's actually VCU fans think this is such a letdown...Cause they know that Akron is a much better team at home than their RPI indicates. It's a no-win situation for us really. As for the winning thing, we'll do our best. Hopefully we can run the table from here on out, I hope y'all will do us the same favor til we meet. Anyway...that's how the bracketbuster goes...some years you have a draw you deserve, other times one you didn't, and still other times you feel shafted...but it'll be a good game.

Please don't ever compare VCU to Austin Peay again. Entirely different level team. Austin Peay is a joke.

Please don't tell me you're comparing Austin Peay to VCU...

Interesting, never heard of this guy. We actually recruited the Virginia State POY (Brandon Rozzell) last year and have 3-star guard Bradford Burgess from Benedictine coming in as well. We also had the #5 mid-major recruiting class in the country as per rivals last year with 3 Rivals 3-star recruits. http://rivalshoops.rivals.com/content.asp?CID=682458VCU is one of the better defensive teams in the country. We lead the nation in defending the 3-point line with the lowest opposition 3-pt fg% in the country. We are lead by Maynor and Shuler who stepped up from being sixth man last year to a first all conference player this year. Maynor is considered as one of the top 10 point guards in the country and is a NBA prospect. The aforementioned Larry Sanders at 6'9 has a 7'7 wingspan (that is not a typo). 7'7. and is the leading freshmen shot-blocker in the nation and 15th nationally overall.

At the moment, I wouldn't worry yourselves too much about the Zips next year .. they'll still be pretty good. Besides, VCU will be losing 3 of their top 4 also. I think it's a good matchup. Perhaps we should play this year's game first.Hope you can make it up to the WOODshed for the contest.Go Zips.Actually, that's not quite true. We lose Shuler (big loss), Michael Anderson, and Wil Fameni. But Fameni hardly plays as he has been suffering from knee tendinitis all year long. 6'9 freshman Larry Sanders has stepped into the starting lineup in his stead. We currently start 2 freshmen and we will be returning Wooden award candidate and current Bob Cousy finalist Eric Maynor who you might have heard of. We lost 2 of our top 3 last year and we're still quite good this year. VCU is in fact a very young team, having 9 newcomers this year. I agree though, it should be a very good matchup and a great game. We know all about how good you are at home, so rest assured no one at VCU is taking you lightly. You should take it as a compliment that VCU did not want you as a matchup, shows how good you guys are. I would have been happier with you having a higher RPI, but there is still much basketball to be played and Akron's RPI will hopefully go up over the next few weeks. I will do my best to make it up for the game! Hopefully I'll be able to meet some of you fine folks up there!

Hey Akron fans, VCU fan here...should be a good game. It'll certainly make for great TV. While it is true that Akron was less than desirable for VCU...now that we've got it, we'll take it. I hope you all don't take it personally as it appears some of you already have. It was just based off the fact that it does little to help us with an at-large bid should we need it. Having you 18 spots lower in the RPI would do little to improve our RPI if we did win, which apparently is next to impossible to do in your house (55-2?? That's awesome...). If we lose, the ramifications for our RPI would be substantial. Then the fact that you lose 4 of 5 top scorers from your team next year makes the return trip at VCU a game that most of our fans would not be really excited about. That said, the game this year should be a downright battle and make for excellent TV. I'm not so cocky as to predict a win for my team without having seen you guys play. But we're a very good ball club. Hopefully we can give you a run for your money at home and put that record to the test.

official bracket buster pairings
Districtballer replied to Zipmeister's topic in Akron Zips Basketball
Hey Akron fans, VCU fan here. Just wanted to wish you all good luck. It should be a decent game. I understand that the Zips are virtually unbeatable at home, but we'll do our best to put your record to the test. It seems that we will be considered one of the marquee matchups and will likely have a ESPN2 game. We'll have a number of Ram fans heading up to the game to experience the great atmosphere we've heard exists up there at Zip games. I beseech you by all means to win your next 5 games before the bracketbuster so as to increase the buzz around this game even further!!!
