Look back 20 years to the four tickets for $1 promotions for some true dilution of the product. Tons of tickets were given away, especially during the 2004 season in order to meet the NCAA guideline of 15K per game. Failure to meet that number at "that" time meant that Akron would have lost 1A status. Rules change, but the crowd number was met and the end result was a full house crowd for a national TV game. Alternative? Empty crowd on national TV = bad recruiting message = more of the status quo.
