Totally agree. We don't HAVE to have 4 good DL. How about 2 or 3 good DL and 1 or 2 average DL. Toledo boasts the 12th ranked MAC offense (97/120 in 1-A) and the 4th ranked total defense (67/120 nationally). Yet somehow they are last in the MAC in points allowed and 105/120 nationally. Compare that to the Zips at 4th in the MAC on offense (43rd nationally), and 12th on defense (94th nationally). Does defense win games? We'll find out in 2.5 weeks.Defense wins championships is something high school coaches tell the guys on defense to make them feel better since they were not athletic or smart enough to play offense. Teams need to score and score and score and score to win games. That is the state of college football today.I would have to disagree with you on this. It is a team effort to win ball games. Defense has to stop the other team from scoring, as well as the Offense has to score points. Also, I can't see how you feel you need to be smart to play on offense. Are you calling all the Defensive players dummies?

I'll bite...Who is being benched because of coaching vendettas?Wallace Pendleton (allegidly) for one. Haxime, Rash and Harvey don't seem to see much, if any, action either these days but I don't have any reason to suspect it's for disciplinary reasons.Are these indeed vendettas or the fans seeing something that is not there? If they are vendettas then JD truly is a HS coach and should be gone. I fail to believe, though, that benching 4 of your biggest D men because of a personal vendetta is what's going on. Maybe I'm naive, but you gotta believe JD would want the best guys on the field whether he likes them personally or not. If these guys aren't playing, I sure hope there is a better reason than personal issues between coach and player.JD and his entire coaching staff are truly HS coaches. Not only can you tell by the personal issues, but by the gameplan they have.

Maybe we need to give pickle juice to our defense. You think it would help them stop the run? Or maybe blitz the QB?

Or the defense needs to let him actually keep a double digit lead he has accrued while managing the game. Let's not forget two games, two double digit leads, two instances where we went from leading to trailing. But yeah that's all on one interception in the BG game, and 1 Fumble in the EMU game. Most QB's are allotted 1 or 2 mistakes a game, but Jacq has to be flawless? No the defense has to learn to suck it up in the 4th quarter and make the stops we need.Yes, I agree with you, however, the coaches need to let others play. Stop benching guys, because you have a personal issue with them. It's about winning. Look at the stats for the Ball State and Army game and you tell me what made the difference. I believe we stopped the running game.

Bring in new Defensive Coordinator and new D-Linemen coaches. That's the only way we will be able to fix the D this year. So, in saying that, it won't get fix. They haven't made any changes the first 8 games and I can't see them making any changes the last 4 games. What we see is what we get.

JohnnyZip - I agree with you. The best defensive game thus far has been against Army. That's when the big guy was in the middle. Where is he now? I've been told he's at the game, but getting no playing time. Just standing on the sideline, like he's not even a part of the team.

Defense is the reason why we get in these bad situations. We need better players on the field and someone that will plug the hole to stop the running game. I don't understand what Fleming/Chambers/JD are doing with allowing kids like Hazime and Pendleton sit on the bench. They aren't getting any playing time at all. Lively didn't get a tackle during the EMU game. What does that say. Obviously someone was missing plugging up the hole, because they were running all over them.

What does this say about us? "The Zips' MAC-worst rushing defense of 215.4 yards per game" - Let's continue the 3-3-5 - Someone needs to tell JD it's not working.Zips' quarterback Chris Jacquemain has tossed a league-high ten interceptions. - Where is ROGER? Can we at least give him a try. Can he be any worse?I hate being negative - but JD needs to re-evaluate his team. We need this win against EMU.

Someone should ask Flem..g/Cham...s where's the defense. They are the coaches? They are the ones to blame at this point. JD needs to make some serious adjustments if he wants to end up with a 500 record this season. If he is brought back next year (which I think he will), I would think that he would consider making adjustments with his Defense coaches. Where is Coach T when you need him. Defense has gone down the drain since he left.

I have a family engagement in Pittsburgh this weekend, or I would be there for sure. After all, I'm 2-0 in road games this year BTW, I heard that "BYE" has opened as a 14 point favorite over the Golden flushes Would love to go to the game and support the team. I just don't want to be disappointed with losing a game I know we should win. I hope I'm wrong. The last home games really took something out of me. I wish they would do something with the D-Line - 3 linemen aren't going to get it.

I think JD will be around for next year. He needs to get some better coaches under him. Moorehead play calling needs to be re-evaluated. The D-Line Coach needs to think about putting more than 3 up front. The 3-3-4 is not working. I understand Brookhart is the man and he needs to step up. I think it will be good for the new stadium if he's around.

This kid does well when he does get a chance to play. He plugs up the whole and prevents the run, which I think would have helped yesterday. Remember BG scored 37 pts.

Lively, Sewell, and Lemon are playing too many downs and it showed towards the end of the Can't game and last night. Marcoux played some as did Odofin, but where is Hazime, Pendleton (swallow your pride a little, Fleming) and Harvey?Rumor has it that Fleming hates Pendleton and noone knows why. Not only is it Fleming, rumor has it it's Chambers, too. But, Fleming is suppose to be the real culprit behind him not playing.

Isn't Harvey is back? If so, Rajek or Pendleton may be out depending on where they put Harvey. They may move Marcoux over to where Lemon is and start Harvey in the middle. I can't see them moving Lemon - he did a great job against Army. My bet is Pendleton is out since Fleming/Chambers don't like the kid. Why? It would be nice to know. He did plug up the hole agaisnt Army, but no tackles.

J. Are you the same guy that signed with UA a couple years back? We could use you on the D-line.Do you really think the D-Line looked that bad last week? I thought they did well with the 4-D Linemen. Mixing it up was a good idea. I know Army isn't a good team, but I thought the D-Line got the job done.

Captain - Good Analysis. I thought the 4- D -Linemen did good and that they should stick with it. I thought it was a better outcome did using the 3-3-5 all the time. The mix is good, too. Marcoux, Sewell, Lemon and Pendleton did make some nice stops and they plugged the hole.

Rumor has it that Pendelton is already playing hurt. That's probably why he's only good for 20-30 plays. If he gets playing time this week, just watch how he walks off the field. The kid is playing in pain. We do need Bain and/or Lively to heal fast. However, the previous post stated that Bain is done for 2008. I wonder what the problem is with him. Why the coaches aren't being honest and upfront about the injuries?
