Well, not too sure what to say right about now. I really believed that the team would excel this year. I have been on the road a lot and haven't been able to see many games other than game tracker. Would be interested to hear from someone who has been following the team as to what has been going on. Thoughts? Insights? Thanks in advance!!

The women's soccer team looked really good this spring. They were putting all the pieces together, building the attack from the back and playing nice soccer - with possession. What was missing, in my opinion, is 1 or 2 impact players. We needed help up front for sure. We would dominate thru the backs and midfield (for the most part) but were lacking that dynamic up front. We had to rely on the last minute dump and run because we just didn't have what we needed up front. Too bad Green had to miss last season with an injury, I thought she would be key for us up front. Again - just my opinion. This program was in bad shape a few years ago (I think people forget that) and I am pleased that over the last few years you can see it has changed - dramatically. It's not an overnight process and I can really see the progression of the team each year. Recruiting has gone well - we have filled our needs and then some. We are drawing players that are used to playing soccer with a purpose at a higher level. We have gained skill and depth. This team should have a great season with the players that they have and the style of play that has been cultivated over the last few years. Coach Croft stepped into a good position here - a solid core of players, a talented incoming class and recruits waiting in the wings for the next few years. It will be interesting to see how the team reacts to the new coach, personality, etc. From what I have seen - his playing style is similar to the previous staff which is great since they have developed into that style/mentality over the last few years and now have the players to do so consistently. That being said, I think the future is bright for the women's soccer program!

You are right on Zach. The program was probably ranked in the 300's when he got to Akron. It's not like he stepped into a top 10 program like on the Men's side. The Women have been working hard and will continue to have success.

I am happy for Coach Pfau he has done well with the team here at Akron. I've gotten to know him through club soccer and he is a good guy and passionate about the game. The Akron women's team is looking good and with the recruits he has lined up for the next 2 years - there is no limit to what the Zips can do!!

I just saw this post and want you to know that I appeciate your updates and support - especially of the women's soccer team!!I believe that you are one of a handful of people that understand that the women's team is young and slowly building so it can become a great program in the future. You can understand that although their record may not leap off the page - they aren't concerned with the numbers. They are trying to play tougher and tougher non-conference opponents each year so they can reach the next level. And look at this year - they were competitve in these games where as a few seasons ago they would have been blown away. This is a young progam, 11 years. And like any new(er) program, it will take time for all the pieces to fit together. Many forget that. The program is evolving and could really become something special with the continued support!!Please keep up the good work.....and hopefully we will see a good turnout on Thursday. The ladies need a boost. A win means the MAC tourney.Thanks mes102!

When I listened to the post-game comments - it doesn't sound as if the coach is blaming the loss on the field. Didn't sound like a sore loser to me. What I understood him to say is that the team has hit the wall and playing flat. They knew coming in that the field was narrow and short which makes it tough for visiting teams to play on anyway. I took the comment as if he was speaking to the conditions due to the weather. I was at the game and the field was a mess. Standing water, mud pits etc. The shame of it is that I heard rumor that there was talk of possibly moving the game to the football field but Can't didn't want that. I can't blame Can't; as that smaller field works to their advantage, style of play, etc. My concern is the safety of the players when the field is in that poor of condition.Regardless, I hope the Lady zips can find their footing again. They played so well in the first 2/3 of the season and just look tired to me. Maybe we can squeak our way into the tournament and we can get our second wind during the tournament. I believe this is the most competitive team I've seen for the Lady zips. They keep getting better each year and the talent level continues to rise. They have set many new records and I look foward to seeing what they can accomplish in the next few years!

Just in case you missed the games &/or results from this weekend....The Ladies tied CMU on Friday night. CMU was ranked 5th in the NSCAA great lakes region and 25th on Socceramerica.com. Jeny Wolbert became the all-time wins leader with 22 games and recorded her fourth straight shutout. It was a great way to open MAC play - keep it up Ladies!!

A great win for sure!! I have been following the women's team for a few years now and it has been fun seeing them progress each year. Keep up the good work!!

I agree, the team has improved each and every year. They are playing better soccer than some of the other teams that just "dump and run." I would like to hear the teams/coaches thoughts on style of play. How they feel they compare to other MAC schools both on the field and in terms of fan support, support from within the administration, etc?I look forward to the response. And I'm sure the fans, players, parents and future recruits will appreciate that as well!
