  1. Me too... makes the MAC look good and helps the RPI. We never expect any RPI support from the MAC.
  2. Yep... I have a feeling that UCLA would give Irvine a tough time...Ya have to like this guy... at Goal.com:Last week... he had Akron at #4... and had this to say. 4.) Akron 2-0-1. "The young talent of Akron needs some time to adjust to college soccer’s physical nature, when they do they’ll be back in the top spot. Next up: St. Louis, September 10. PR: 1http://www.rs.goal.com/en-us/news/2617/you...-three-rankingsThis week... Akron is #2:2. Akron 3-0-1. “Solid, efficient win,” head coach Caleb Porter told gozips.com after the 4-0 win over St. Louis. “It still could be better that is the scary thing.” Indeed, coach. And it will be better with time. Next up: New Mexico, September 16. PR: 4http://www.goal.com/en-us/news/2617/youth-...week-4-rankingsHe has Creighton at #1Creighton looks good... but we tied Creighton at a neutral site in pre-season. Maryland is scary right now...
  3. Tulloch is a beast... he makes two of Mattocks. He also has 8 goals already... But we shouldn't have any trouble scoring without him... once we gel.
  4. WEEK FOUR...TDS - #1 Maryland, #2 UConn, #3 Akron, #4 UNC, #5 Louisvillehttp://www.topdrawersoccer.com/college-soc...DB_OEM_ID=10800CSN - #1 UConn, #2 Maryland, #3 Louisville, #4 UNC, #5 Creighton, #6 Akronhttp://www.collegesoccernews.com/index_files/Page1698.htmOther polls not out yet...http://www.soccertimes.com/ncaa/top25/men.htmhttp://www.nscaa.com/cr.phphttp://www.socceramerica.com/publications/...porter/edition/
  5. City of Akron and FDNY (video) Too bad they weren't wearing "National Champion" soccer T-shirts... instead of that other team.
  6. Watched webcast from SLU.....TOTALLY DOMINATED ENTIRE GAME :DThe Mobile Version sure wasn't working... couldn't get anything but the score... no game stats... no quasi real-time info.
  7. Yep... and #2 Maryland killed #8 BC... so they will likely be #1. So... will Akron be #2 or #3?
  8. Glad to see some Holmes fans... as some previous posts led me to believe that the consensus on here was that he would not start. Your lineup is the same as the last guess that we had in another post, "2011 Lineup Guesses"... but we were not all guessing formations.I watched Holmes in the pre-season practices... before coaching and afterwards. There's little doubt that he's a leader out there... so I am eager to see him play... hopefully at home against OSU.Also... I thknk that Barrett will see some significant time up front... maybe spelling Mattocks or even Holmes at times.
  9. If these spreads are real... you have to think that they're pretty weak... Temple -13... Temple -15http://www.capperspicks.com/blog/ncaa-foot...free-pick-6911/http://sportsdirect.usatoday.com/odds/ncaa...x?eventId=29779Not very realistic! Can you see us coming within 13 of Temple? Granted... that's not OSU's defense out there... but Temple can score... especially against an overworked defense.Last year it was only 6-0 at halftime... then Temple put it in overdrive for a 30-0 win. We had 154 yards in offense to Temple's 399... and we also had a 0.7 Yards per carry in the running game... against a MAC school !!http://espn.go.com/ncf/boxscore?gameId=303030218Another bad sign... we played them late in the season... game 9... when we managed to put together the best games of the year... and Temple handed us the only shutout of the season.But... Wilkerson is a starter at DE for the Jets now... so we won't see him this year. Maybe we can double that yards per carry.
  10. Had they scored against Fullerton we would be ranked top 3. Number 4 on latest NSCAA poll. I'm not selling us short... I KNOW that we will be in it at the end of the season... But we still have a lot to prove!
  11. Week 3 - Lowest Rankings in years... but maybe we are still over-rated...??? We have some things to prove... after proving to be dead even with some mediocre teams over the weekend. But first... gotta learn from game tapes... and develop some better teamwork. Shots on Goal doesn't win games. "D" looks great though. Top Drawer: #1 UNC #2 Maryland #3 UConn #4 Akron http://www.topdrawersoccer.com/college-soc...DB_OEM_ID=10800 Soccer America: #1 UNC #2 Louisville #3 UConn #4 Creighton #5 Akron http://www.socceramerica.com/article/43644...ens-top-25.html SoccerTimes: #1 UNC #2 Maryland #3 UConn #4 Akron http://www.soccertimes.com/ncaa/top25/men.htm
  12. I can assure ALL Zips fans that Barley House is behind you 100%. ALL staff will be wearing new custom Akron/Barley House shirts during ALL Zips games. I just posted the shirt on the Akron Barley House Facebook account. Our beer special for Saturday game days are 22 oz Zips keep the cup (Bud or Bud Light) for only $3.25! I would be more than pleased to see the place taken over by Zips fans EVERY Saturday (just like the December Soccer games). Your voices were heard in the past and we made the proper changes. Let's start this season off the right way with a HUGE party in support of YOUR Akron Zips!!!! -Ryan Hartzell -Barley House Owner Very cool that the Barley House is doing this... to TRY to support the Zips. We ZipsNation people have to keep in mind that the Barley House... and MSOT Akronites all TRY to support the Zips... But… there are also reasons why some of us have mixed allegiances. It seems strange to me that some ZipsNation people do not GET IT. Time for a history lesson! First… MIXED ALLEGENCES - Ohio State is one of the largest universities on the planet... with the largest alumni association. NE Ohio has about 5 million of Ohio's 11 million population… and a good part of OSU’s alumni. So… just from sheer numbers… there are likely at least as many OSU alumni in NE Ohio as Akron Alumni… and probably more. I went to Ohio State... like many Akronites... and I also graduated... a few times... from Akron. There are thousands of AKRON/OSU fans like me… like it or not. My GF is also an Akron alumni… and we are both big OSU fans. In fact… most former GFs are OSU fans…. whether or not they went to OSU. Consider this CLEAR example of what I am trying to convey: Last March I was in another West Akron Sports Bar… watching the MAC Championship game. The bar was packed… wall-to-wall… full of Akron colors… and I saw ZERO Can't State fans. The place erupted when Akron pulled off the win. It was nice to see. A couple months earlier… the same bar was packed with Scarlet and Gray… and the place also erupted when OSU won a bowl game… saving face for the ENTIRE BIG TEN conference! It’s the SAME CROWD! Get it? OHIO is an Ohio State… state… and in NO Ohio... we also like to root for the Zips… if we can find a reason! Second… the NATIONAL NCAA FOOTBALL SCENE - Akron is not a factor on the NATIONAL college football scene. NE Ohio is full of OSU fans as we all grew up despising most other Big Ten schools… some MUCH more than others… and we grew up backing Ohio State… and watching Ohio State football at a time when Akron was not even a Division I school. I don’t remember EVER watching an Akron game on TV here in Akron. Third... BACKING OHIO STATE - although rooting for Ohio State is not always rewarding… it is less of a waste of time than rooting for a doormat team in the MAC. Rooting for OSU actually has rewards occasionally… like top 10 rankings year after year… and like successfully battling it out in the big Ten and staying on top in football… and basketball occasionally. Fourth... PAST EFFORTS TO BACK AKRON - We Akron alumni who are long-time Akronites… have all tried Rooting for the Zips in football… and most of us have been trying for decades… but the football program here in Akron is PATHETIC… year… after year… after year. We lost to a high-school last year… remember that? Does anyone realize how other MAC schools must have felt about that game? Gardner-Webb enrollment – 2,500! We have bigger high schools in Akron! Gardner-What? beat a MAC school… at home! This was a new LOW for the MAC Conference. http://scores.espn.go.com/ncf/boxscore?gameId=302542006 So maybe G-W had a banner year…? They were 4-7! Look at this schedule: http://espn.go.com/college-football/team/s...runnin-bulldogs This alone is more than enough reason for Akronites to NEVER want to waste a Saturday afternoon at that stadium again. .. impressive facility or not. . But... we will keep trying to look for a reason to back Akron footbal. Fifth… FACILITIES and RECENT UNIVERSITY EFFORTS - I AM a big U Akron fan… and I really admire the fact that the university has become a very cool campus… with some very successful academics. I like the leadership team and I am amazed at what they have done. I just shared maybe 30 photos of the campus with associates in China… and they were also impressed. I am also impressed by the new football stadium… somewhat small… but built on an appropriate budget… and very impressive for a MAC school. The issue is that it’s still embarrassing to go there and see a game. We may win 2-3 games this year… but maybe not. Maybe… we will be worse than last year. The 2012 recruiting class is a joke… and the future of Akron looks very bleak. In fact… if we cannot manage to lose the embarrassment of the MAC ng we will see an 0-11 season in the very near future… due to the inability of the coaching staff to recruit in a football-rich state. We are a joke in the MAC… let alone on the REAL NCAA football scene. We have been waiting for a team for longer than most Zips fans have been alive. I like what the university is TRYING to do for the football program… and I like the fact that the coaching staff is all from larger football programs. But… I am already tired of seeing iCoach… and tired of listening to him. It’s time for him to prove himself. Probably… we have all read the most favorable MAC review on the Zips. iCoach finished the season with less scholarship players than a Division II team. Maybe you can attribute that to the level of talent… and to the Weeding Out process… but maybe it’s also due to a lack of respect for the coaching staff and program. I’m at least 10 years older than iCoach… but I’m still an athlete… a tri-athlete… a weight-trainer. iCoach is built like a soccer mom. Lift some weights DUDE… and do some few hundred sit-ups a day. Maybe that will help with the respect thing. And you ZipsNation idiots who bad-mouth OSU fans… keep in mind… that OSU fans... those in Akron... are also U AKRON’S fan base !!!! You sound like idiots talking about the red and silver team like they were blue and maize. Prediction for today… OSU has 6 scores on offense… 2 on defense… 1 on special teams... as they spend most of the afternoon evaluating 2nd team players. OSU covers the spread easily.
  13. At least they seemed to lift the level of play in the OTs... the whole team.... seemed hungry for a win. What we were able to hear the second half (not much) was sub-par for this program. This draw... and a drop in the rankings... will maybe ground these guys a little bit and make them work harder. Can't wait to hear Porter...
  14. first time I heard Barrett...
  15. We are getting out-played in the second half... shades of Cleveland State last year. Shake it up Porter... surely someone on the bench wants a shot against this mediocre team.
  16. Maybe it's better this way... not a good game. Anyone on the bench want to score?
  17. Not sure how surprising it is, I would have thought Barrett, but Schmitt has been solid in past years. Not the most talented guy, but I love his hustle. Can't hurt with the coaches! Yes... but maybe some of Coach P demonstrating how a good week of practices can affect the starting lineup. We would all like to see competition every week...makes for a great team. These guys better get it together and score... Now Stevenson is in...

  19. No start for Barrett... Stevenson gets the start Actually it's Schmitt, not Stevenson. Zips starting XI: Meves, Yedlin, Gallego, Barson, Mayer, Trapp, Balogun, Quinn, Caldwell, Schmitt, Mattocks. You're right... Thomas Schmitt... that's surprising...
  20. No start for Barrett... Stevenson gets the start
  21. Finally an official press release... on Tank's "Luke Holmes" inside info... http://www.ohio.com/sports/zips/ua-soccer-...atches-1.232598 Which means... we'll only get better.
  22. NCSAA has the Zips at #1 in the Great Lakes region ahead of Louisville. A little surprising to me since Louisville has their whole team back and just beat UCLA who was #2 in many rankings. I kept the above link for only one reason. I find it funny that the URL said ../reporter/edition but ended up being abbreviated to ...porter/edition. I think all US college soccer stories ought to have a link like that. We hold at #2 in the big poll... no surprise... http://www.nscaa.com/seniorRes.php?it=1593
  23. I've posted another ZipsNation Update video on YouTube for remote Zips fans that missed Game 1 against Cleveland State: This is the second YouTube video for the 2011 season as the "Meet the Team" event was here: I will try to post a video after every home game... provided I get some decent photos. I'll also see if I can upgrade the video used in this video from a pint-and-shoot to a legit Camcorder. I'll also add a "in-video" link to GoZips.com.
