I don't want to be rude, but in the newspaper business we live in a day and age - especially sports - that there are times that reporters HAVE to cover a topic not on their assigned beat.
Stephanie Storm, the normal Flashes writer, was busy with NFL Draft stuff along with the Akron Aeros. Once Zips baseball ended I had a little bit of track to cover and I got Can't baseball which quickly became a national story, like it or not.
I get paid to write. Period. My guess is that most here would not like the college team that I support. But here's my philosophy regarding covering a beat: I can like the people - be they player, coach or affiliated staff member - but I try to avoid showing any bias in my reporting. Bottom line: I write what I'm assigned.
