  1. There are multiple lots...search uakron.edu to find them. Nearly all around the stadium that aren't decks allow full-on tailgating (drinking/grilling/etc.). As far as drinking goes, you should keep it in a plastic cup, but it is allowed...actually it's encouraged. On a side note: I just attended OU's homecoming last weekend and had a BLAST. Akron (and any other ohio college) could learn a thing or two about how it should be done from you guys. The parade was amazing, the 110 alumni band was more entertaining than the football game, and the atmosphere was top notch. great stuff.

  2. LR8 is bringing in a dimension that Nicely never had. He can run with the ball and get first downs and touchdowns.

If he ever plays for a real coach he might be pretty good.

I agree, and I'm as big of a PN fan as anyone but Moore is a playmaker and that's something we desperately need. If only our coach would figure out how to use him better.

  3. Mike Birkbeck has been K.e.n.t.'s pitching coach for quite a while. He's the only Akron player I know of to play in the majors. I think he has to the the #1 candidate for the HC position.

John Massarelli had a decent minor league catching career, and coached in the minors. He's another logical candidate.

Massarelli surely is a good possibility.

That is the kind of coach that this program needs.

  4. Are there any teams in the NCAA that draw significant fans?

College baseball is huge in the south. Crowds of 1000+ are fairly common.

Check out the top 50 for average attendance last year.

Baseball is very popular around here and if you put a good product on the field, people will come...no doubt about it.

It's cold during much of the season, sure, but baseball could definitely out draw women's basketball and anything else other than Football/Basketball/Men'sSoccer here.

Hell, i know i'm not the only one who makes it to most of the baseball games...there were some decent crowds this year for a terrible team that had a terrible coach playing in a terrible facility. If we just get someone competent to skipper this program and throw in some decent facilities, we could do some damage in our region. I mean come on, Can't is the only program even knocking on the door of the Top 25 this year in the entire midwest.

  5. She looks fairly solid...and it makes sense to see someone of her age coming over to play collegiately. If you are college age (18-23) and playing college tennis, there isn't much of a chance you will be playing professionally...at least on the tour. Girls especially would already be long turned pro by the time they are in their 20's, so this sort of arrangement could definitely be a good route to go in building a great program. Give them a free education all while getting them some decent competition on their way to a possible pro career.

  6. Looks like Teal Bunbury wont be playing for the US in the Gold Cup http://www.mlssoccer.com/news/article/2011...r-2011-gold-cup

You have to wonder if he made the right choice picking the US over Canada.

Well, considering Canada sucks...then yes i believe he made the right choice.

He already made a bit of a name for himself in that game a few months ago and if it weren't for that injury i'd have to believe he would have had a better shot at making the Gold Cup roster.

  7. No one else from Can't, please. That was the thinking behind hiring Bangston, that he could bring some of the winning ways from Can't and OSU, where he was an assistant.

We'd be lucky as hell to get someone as high-level as Birkbeck...but that isn't going to happen.

I will agree that Bangston needs to go, he is a MAJOR reason why this program is taking steps in the wrong direction.

  8. How did they do?

    they lost 4-0.

Three of the matches weren't finished, i assume because they didn't matter due to the rest being swept.

The only Zips that were competitive were Angelika Jogasuria, who was up a set and on serve in the second when stopped, and Prang Pantusart, who was just beginning a first-set tiebreaker when play was stopped.

Other than that, it was ugly.

  9. I hear that the hunt for OBL started the day Obama was sworn in. He personally oversaw every bit of this and actually went undercover and found where OBL was and then flew over there himself and personally raided the compound and shot OBL.

The SEAL's did nothing. The intelligence community did nothing. The enhanced interrogations that were made illiegal by the Obama admin got nothing.

Unemployment is way down. When you promised unemployment wouldn't go over 8% with the passing of the simulus bill, you were correct. The economy is booming. All the troops are back home, Guantanamo Bay is closed, every thing is transparent, the budget is balanced and the rest of the world now loves us.

Great job Mr President. You are the greatest of all time.

    +1

  10. Our facilities are so bad that we already moved a series to an opponents field 48 hours before first pitch due to field conditions. That's just ridiculous.

They need to blow that place up and rebuild it. Hell, the Zips should go play at Erie Island or Summit Lake parks, they are both nicer than Lee Jackson.

  11. Yeah, the Zips are god-awful offensively.

The next biggest problem is the coaching. This coaching staff has to be the most backwards, baseball stupid, and stubborn group I have ever seen. They continually play favorites (it's been going on for years) and their favorites could be hitting at or (far) under .200, yet still get start after start, all while guys like Lawrence Penn ride the pine for FIVE YEARS with only 51 total at bats to show for it. Even worse, he had only four last year, and just one this year so far.

The coaches also mismanage their pitching to such levels that it seems almost like they are trying to screw up. I could go on and on but if you've ever watched even one game, then you'd understand what I mean. If these guys aren't fired at the end of the season we will know for sure that the University just doesn't give the slightest crap about this program.

Another thing, and I'll probably have more on this later, but word is Bangston told a few of the players to just go home (including a senior) for the remainder of the season because he basically has no use for them. Gotta confirm that, but I've heard it from two players and someone close to the team, so it may be true.

  12. Anyone else smell another preemptive war in our not-so-distant future?

The war-mongers in Washington seem to have the sheeple unified since Osama was killed.

You got that right...the sheep in our country will believe anything, regardless of how fishy or ridiculous things are.

Don't get me wrong, I'm not a crazy who believes Osama has been dead for 10 years and 9/11 was orchestrated by the government, or anything wild like that. But I do think there are a lot of coincidences and inconsistencies with Sunday's events.

  13. Great recognition for our kids. But seriously, can anyone think of a reason why a Columbus pro sports team would honor anyone or anything from Akron for any other purpose besides trying to get some folks from Akron to drive down there and buy a game ticket?

I can't imagine why they would want to market the only top tier soccer league team from Ohio to people from Ohio.

    You mean the Zips? :lol::NCAAC:

    (screw Cowlumbus)

  14. I liked the video clip they showed right before Infocision....The Suckeyes getting scored on! hahahah

I love it how peope on this forum rip on the Buckeyes at every opportunity they can. It's hard to find something positive to say about the Zips so they resort to ripping the Buckeyes. It' actually pretty sad.

Screw the Buckeyes...i enjoy every moment they fail, almost as much as I enjoy when Can't fails (which happens a lot, yet never gets old :D ). What is wrong with that? Now i get the whole overdoing it on the Buckeyes thing (and please let's not start that again), but honestly, OF COURSE people are going to rip on another in-state team that might as well be considered a rival, that's what fan forums are for!

  15. I'll definitely be there, whereever they end up playing the game. Besides the obvious curiosity surrounding The Lone Ranger, I'm also interested to see the redshirts from last year's class, especially Chisolm, Staten and Suel. I also want to see what Fleming can do at TE.

Tailgating starting around 11am, anyone else planning on showing up early?

I'll be there a little early but be gone early as well to watch the Futbol team.

Tailgating sounds pretty good, though I just got out of the hospital and dont think i could handle such fun quite yet ha.

I dont think there will be many other people tailgating though lol
