During this current era of SEC dominance, what really gets talked about is the superior speed of the INTERIOR people, and that OSWho vs. Florida game just happened to be one of the first, and most glaring examples. At the other more skilled positions, sure, plenty of teams have speed. Don't forget. There's been a lot written about the population shift in America over the last few decades as a contributing factor to better athletes being from the South. I'm sure there's some truth to that. Look no further than Michigan and OSWho. Only 1 title each for these two schools since the 60s?

I agree completely. That unit is looking outstanding for next year. In fact, for the most part, I think Brown has been the forgotten one of the three of them up to this point. I really like Evans too. Don't forget about him.

Or better yet, it's what Big 10 fans want everyone to believe. Someone in the thread said that a stronger Big 10 helps the MAC, and that's just pure BULL. Talent rules in college football. When Big 10 teams suck (and plenty of them do), the MAC schools have a better chance of getting players that may have otherwise possibly chosen one of the Big 10 schools. Another Example: When Pitt was really down in the late 80s, the Zips recruiters FEASTED on SW Pennsylvania players. The very players who helped build the first phase of our 1-A era. If Pitt was doing well, would Pitt have been a more desirable program for some of those players? Absolutely. And I know some of those guys, personally.

You noticed that too? The person who lashes out repeatedly with personal, child-like, multi-paragraph insults when someone uses the words Suckeyes and OSWho, is now including the word SECheats in his posts? Note: This is a ZIPS chat board. Expect and accept that our competitors are going to be ridiculed.

Especially Big 10 fans around here. They find some way to spin it. Laughable. And they've done it with 4 different programs. Unbelievable. I don't think that kind of run, with that many different teams, will ever be equaled.
-
That's beautiful !! I love to remind them about the Pass Interference call that was flagged as everyone was running onto the field. And just think, that's their only title in the last 45 years. You'd never guess it by the way they flaunt their supposed superiority. They also like to dig at other programs when they are being investigated for violations. It's a big source of laughter. The NCAA data on the top violators that was uncovered through public record by their own hometown newspaper a couple of years ago must have been quickly forgotten.

Over the last couple of days, I think that has been the most compelling factor as to why Auburn should be in the NC Game.

Wouldn't it surprise you if he becomes a Head Coach at any college again? I'd say that he'd be very fortunate if he were to get offered a job like this.

Dave, This is a great point that should not be overlooked. It IS all about interpretation, because we've all been roped into a system where there's so much of a human element in the equation. Probably a good reason why this system is being scrapped next year, and SOS is supposedly going to play a much bigger role. We'll find out next week if Auburn can make up the gap in points, but you have to ask yourself, how did one loss put them so far behind a team that was playing nobody's when they were in the process of playing 6 ranked teams, including a #1 and #5 in consecutive weeks? The system obviously is not working. And if the "undefeated" is indeed the overwhelming characteristic to determine national title contention, where's the push for NIU to be considered for the title game? I'll give you the answer. It all has to do with the fact that NOBODY will dare to put them closer to the top of the polls at the start of the season. Only the name teams get those spots, which clearly provides an advantage when you run the table.

Nice job with the research. I do agree with you that Florida State doesn't have the strongest schedule either, although it's much better than OSWho's. But, as many people have stated, where Florida State really makes their case is the fact that they beat both a Top-5 and Top-10 team this year....in blowout fashion....and have not had a close game all season. The way they dismantled #3 Clemson was especially impressive, and that was really the game that vaulted them up near the top spot. So, they clearly earned their status.
-
Hmmm. Auburn #4 Alabama #5 OSWho #52 Those are staggering numbers, even if they may vary slightly with competing SOS rankings services. But, how much do you want to wager that some typical OSU Honk who hangs around here has some programmed talking point that attempts to refute this, or calls you a "hater" for posting it ?
-
Nothing else I can add to that.
-
Good Grief I already know the standard OSWho / Big 10 talking points. Heard them all before. But, you are right about one thing. The Arkansas "win" did NOT count. It had to be forfeited because they were playing ineligible players.

Bingo !!

LZip.... 1) Please don't tell us you are trying to argue Auburn's schedule vs. OSWho's schedule with the old "they played some OOC scrubs too". Yes, many of the top teams play scrubs during their OOC schedules too, but they have plenty of schedule strength within their OWN CONFERENCE to prove their worth. OSWho does not. 2) "In The Past" is the key word in your post. Those games against USC and Texas were many years ago, and they lost 3 out of 4 of them. They also got pasted in 2 national championship games. The only game they won in that stretch was against a Texas team starting a brand new Freshman QB. These games all together represent a 1-5 record in their last 6 games against Top5 rated teams. I think this was clearly the birth of the "sit back and wait for the better teams to beat each other" philosophy of trying get in national title contention. 3) By 2010, the best team they beat was a Miami team that ended up around 30th in the national rankings. And they STILL felt like they were national championship material that year with an unbelievable 60-something SOS. Just idiotic. And this year isn't shaping up much differently. Please spare us the typical OSWho talking points. Last week, I had someone tell me that OSWho should have had a game against Vanderbilt this year instead of Buffalo. WOW. That would have made a huge difference since they were 50th and 56th in RPI at the time he was trying to make the point. Bottom Line: Play good teams and beat good teams, if you want people to respect you. Like I said in the Soccer thread recently, in 2010 Akron Soccer went out and scheduled Wake Forest and N. Carolina to start the season, on the road, and beat them both. You earn respect from sports fans that way. Not by celebrating when the good teams in front of you beat each other, and you move up by default.
-
Couldn't have said it better myself.
-
That should be the goal. That would mean we'd someday be playing in two major bowl games in a row. I think Akron would have a chance to develop a Cincinnati-like following if that happened, and carve out our own territory right in the middle of Ohio.
-
It was just a comparison of two defenses, against a common opponent, for the purpose of discussion. But let me remind you.....it's not even remotely close. And the QB Gardner who we played against was playing on more than ONE leg. If I have never said this to you before, feel free to take your argument to the Suckeyes chat site. I'm sure they'll love you over there when you tell them that their defense really isn't that bad
-
I haven't. What have I missed?
-
Amen to that. I think people would be dumb to consider him for a head coaching job now, after looking completely clueless in losing 7 games as OSWho's 2011 head coach. If not, yesterday's disaster should seal his fate.
-
I always love to watch our former opponents, and after watching Michigan hang 40+ points and 600+ yards on the Suckeye's defense yesterday, it really opened my eyes to the major transformation of our defense this year. And remember, this was a Michigan offense that was playing MUCH BETTER back in September. In fact, they had taken an absolute nosedive in production in recent weeks. They had scored 6 points against Michigan State, 13 against Nebraska, and mustered just 45 total 2nd half yards against Iowa a week ago. It's just one game, I know. But, the difference is staggering, especially when you consider how badly Michigan's offense had deteriorated between September and November, and the fact that their QB was playing on one leg. Yet, they scored 23 more points yesterday, and amassed almost 200 more total yards than they did in the meeting against our Zips. And we even gave them an extra 4th quarter possession because we ran back an INT for a touchdown. Our defensive effort against Toledo on Friday should provide even more evidence. We held them to 29 points, and they had scored between 45-55 points on 4 different occasions during the months of October and November. They even scored 28 in a victory against Bowling Green, who has given up a mere 7 points or less to its last 4 opponents. Too bad we didn't have a few more games left on the schedule this year
-
If the HS game draws 10,000 less than we drew yesterday, they would be in big-time negative numbers. It's the Reg. Final game in Div. 1 between St. Ed's and Mentor. Not just some random high school game.
-
I hope you're right. The investment we've made should certainly show the conference that we have a foundation for success in place that could help the profile of the entire conference.
-
It's crazy that they didn't bother to clean off most of the seats, since they will need to do it today with a big high school playoff game coming to town.

I was there too. Just had the down wrong. The point is, we were on the 1 yard line before the botched sweep play. Not "3 yards away", as the poster stated.
