I am in need of help contacting the University of Akron about prospects from my high school. Obviously I don't have a tremendous amount of contacts and it does not help that I live in NJ...so I started my search here. I can use a phone number or email or anything anyone has to offer to contact the recruiting coaches. Some of the West Morris prospects include:NG Anthony Albanese: 6'0 196 lbs. FIRST TEAM ALL STATE, 83 Tackles, 36 TFL, 16 SACKS!, 1 int and 3 FFSingle Game Performace: 11 Tackles, 5 SACKS, 9 TFL in 21-14 season opening winLB Salvatore Carfaro: 6'0 202 lbs. 3rd team ALL STATE, 120 Tackles (school record 321 for career) Double figure tackles in 6 games. Single Game Performance: 28 Tackles out of team's 52 in 30-23 win over East OrangeWR/DB Brett Bononno:6'0 160 lbs. 1st team ALL COUNTY, 27 catches for school record 738 yards (27.3 YPC) and 9 TDs. 45 tackles and 4 int. as CBQB Tyler Bernsten:6'5 210 lbs. 2nd team ALL COUNTY, do not have the complete stats on Tyler but do know this: last year in the first game of the season, Tyler threw 5 picks and finished the team finished the season 2-10. While leading his senior campaign this year, Tyler threw for near 1,000 yards 13 pass TD, 5 Rush TD and 0 interceptions. B/c of such a poor jr. season, no one looked at him and he is a huge sleeper and threw for almost 2x as many TDs as Michael Colvin of rival Morristown. He lead a team one year removed from 2 wins to this year's 9-2 turnaround of the ages.OT Ryan Cross:6'6 295 lbs. Missed about half the season due to injury but was really a Paul Bunyan against men when he played. OLB/TE Matt Wehrhahan:6'2 215lbs. Leader of the defense and lead by example. More heart and determination than just about every player out there. Stats do not show thisAlso...:Jr RB Michael Burton:5'10" 190 lbs. 2nd team ALL COUNTY, 81 carries for 789 yards (9.7 YPC) 14 Rushing TDs, 1 passing, 1 recieving, 2 return tds. 124 total points (team's kicker as well). Missed half the season!!!! This kid will be playing FBS football. He has been a beast since 2nd grade and is now faster than DBs and stronger that LBs. Top all-performance of the state: 12 carries for 150 yards and 2 Tds, 38 yard TD reception, returned a punt 64 yards for a score and recorded 6 tackles and 1 sack in 46-0 victory over Randolph. Against one opponent he touched the ball 7 times for 4 tds meaning he scored more tds than times tackled with the ball!! Burton is a household name to NJ High School Coaches.Just about all of these players play other sports and have been recruited from several lower level schools including Rhode Island, Colgate, Delaware Valley College and so on. So if you know a friend of a friend of a friend who's son is friends with JD's nephew, PLEASE let me know so I can pass the word on. Thank you!BTW, Michael Colvin's stats:6-3 220 lbs. 1st team All COUNTY 121 carries for 1,017 yards and 10 TDs. 55 of 107 passing for 989 yards and 7 tds.All statistics were taken from Newark Star Ledger, 12/21/08

hoorah!

someone tell me they'll be there......PLEASEI'm not, however, afraid of being the lone fan, I would just like to meet some fans.So is anyone here going?
-
I will be at the game!!!!!
-
perhaps Zippy is not in the running this time for Mascot of the Year because the Capital One Bowl team was intimidated by her undefeated record and assumed that she would win the next ten years in a row if still in the running
-
this is excellent. everyone was worried about QB play and in week 2 when the Zips face a BCS conference team, their QB throws 260 yards, 76% completions, and 3 TDs.AWESOME JOB CHRIS!!!
-
good stuff. Way to go Reggie!!!

I think that the Zips are actually strongest at OL and DL with the most experienced groups on the team there. The real questions will be how the secondary steps up after losing some great playmakers in Corner, Tate, and Jones. Also the highly touted recruits and JUCO players need to make a strong impact for the season to be a success. Andrew Johnson was one of the best RB coming out of high school, but that was four years ago. Also the recieving corps was virtually nothing without Arthur last year so Bowser, Fuqua, Owen and all the WRs need to play to their potential.

Zips Pursue Top NJ QB

HOLY MOLY! Not only are these two quarterbacks in my high school's conference, but I have personally played against them and seen them in real life as I am in the same grade as both of them.Michael Colvin is the real deal. He was a beast at every age group and was the sole reason our 7th grade team did not go undefeated. He is extremely quick as the article said and is going to be a fourth year starter at point guard for the basketball team, presumably. He truly does have all the intangibles you look for in a quarterback. He reminds me of a Donovan McNabb with the mindset to complement the physical skills (the article said he got an offer from Harvard). I have never wanted a player to be a Zip more in my life. This kid, if all goes as planned, can truly change the face of the program as he is an elite talent.Suk, on the other hand, just has a big arm and makes mistakes frequently and I think he is overrated because he can probably throw the ball 70 yards.I will probably update on him after this year's West Morris - Morristown Matchup.Go ZIPS!! -

this trivia can be challenging "Akron played its first college football game in 1891. What year did the school have its first All-American?"A) 1969B) 2005C) 1891D) They never had oneJohn Travis was the first All-American in Akron history in 1969. He has since been followed by Michael Hatch (1971), Mark VanHorn (1976), Steve Cockerham (1976 & 1977), Brad Reece (1980 & 1981), Wayn...the more you know

we should all put in a bid for that giant robotic statue in England to be sent to Akron with a Zips jersey replacing his Dolphins one.

yeah the amount of Zips on the Giants is staggering. Hixon, Blackburn, and now Robinson. Very Niiiice.
