  1. For ESPN, it is about the sponsorship revenue. For the schools, it is a chance to spend more money than you bring in for the "exposure" and also a few extra weeks of practice to prep some underclassmen for the next season. For gambling degenerates, it is another game to bet. For the bowl itself, they do need some money to give away to a local charity. Because of that, the Montgomery bowl seems like it would be a good fit for Akron. I would be willing to bet that we are a more attractive draw for this bowl with our coach being formerly of UNA and most importantly Auburn than another MAC schools with Coach X and Player Y nobody has heard of. We have a player Y, but a name in a coach people have heard of. If we win next week, I think it would be awesome if we found our way into any bowl. Let's face it, lots of us haven't had much to be really happy about as it relates to this program for almost 30 years. Bowls for a school like Akron are very important. There are people in this world who schedule regular vacations around bowl games. I hope we can get to that point some day and this year would be a good start.
  2. I actually loved it (see earlier posts). I love a boring off tackle play when it works because it is as you describe above. I hate a boring play when it doesn't work because they frequently are the base of an offense and if you can't run the base of your offense regularly, you can't win. EDIT: One thing about boring plays, they seem to work better against bad teams. The now 2-8 Tennessee Titans are a bad team. UMASS is a bad team. The Steelers and Zips offenses got a lot of help from bad teams this week. Formations and play calling both take a back seat to execution. These two teams were "magically" able to execute against bad teams with bad players. The trick is to be able to execute every week. The Zips have one more week to prove whether or not they can execute against a bad team. Can't is horrible and we should win. We need to start executing better against better teams or we will be 6-6 forever and I'm not interested in following a 6-6 team forever. I've done it for almost 30 years now and I've had just about all I can take.
  3. "coveted" is too Biblical of a term for me. I would prefer the word "interested". We might have some interest from the bowl in Alabama. Outside of that, I don't hold much hope.
  4. I like it too when it works. I hate it when it doesn't work. Same reaction to bubble screen and triple option. Big fan of plays that work. Hater of plays that don't work. ThatThat's how I roll.
  5. Dreams are about all Zips football fans have.
  6. One more win and we might be on our way to Alabama. Getting my hopes up. Why do I do it to myself?
  7. That's what people in the 80s used to say after watching off tackle all afternoon.
  8. One more win and we can go to a bowl.
  9. Grown worthy?
  10. I hate the play. How did they use it?
  11. Did it get any yards or did it cause everyone to groan? Does one or the other.
  12. Pratt is a word that rhymes with "punt".
  13. Does the Akron Funny Farm have a padded wagon big enough for 300?
  14. In a world where running 80+ plays is a goal, sometimes common sense gets lost.
  15. Bad fumble but he found out if you run inside, you will get outside on this drive.
  16. Highlights showing passes over the middle working. Go figure. Nice to see AJ using the entire field.
  17. Marrtotts are good brands. The hotel will be nice. You just have more driving to do. EDIT: Don't use TripAdvisor to get news on places you are going. Idiots post on that website.
  18. Akron 9 UMass 7
  19. You'll be safe on the property. Cancel your reservation and book one at Comfort Inn and Suites in Mount pleasant on the iop connector. Close to the beach and endlessly more good places to eat. Route 17 newly finished and flows fast. You won't regret it.
  20. I saw Duke do some real creative things last weekend against a talented defensive line. Using either one or two backs, they used a TE in the slot next to either tackle to run power plays or pull the TE to block on counters. Dukes coach is very creative and ran a large variety of plays one can run at a school that takes brains to attend. Turnovers killed them.
  21. No, because the state charges individuals on behalf of the public.
  22. Please stop. Your first point would be true if the police didn't have photos of injury. At my age, I'm pretty sure I wouldn't have trouble with a six foot tall woman. Tree would kick my ass up and down the street. He is a large well trained guy and this girl couldn't hold her own against him. She has done nothing to be suspended. Steve Spurrier has a zero tolerance policy for violence against women and has used it twice while at SC. Has not used it in several years because players know he means business. Time for Tree to be shown the door.
  23. I'm in Chicago on business. If the weather they are having here is going to be in Akron tomorrow, do yourself a favor and stay home.
  24. Maybe they arent mutually exclusive. Personally, I'm very disappointed by this particular player's actions. He is a team leader and should have been behaving as such. Need to focus blame on him where it belongs.
  25. Weather in the 60s. Perfect weather to sit on the beach and relax. Wear a pair of shorts and sweatshirt. Sun will help with heat.
