Regarding QB, I think you are looking at a competition between Gibson, Deshields, Marousek, and the JUCO QB next year. I wouldn't count on Jankowski since he's a true freshman. Regardless, I expect/hope one of those 4 can at least be a solid MAC QB. I don't write off Gibson yet, but he needs competition for sure and I think the coaches realize that too. Other posters said it was a close race with Deshields.
Much better competition at the position than with Terry Bowden. I'm old enough to remember we finished the season against Ohio with WR Tyrell Goodman playing QB (and a drop from Jojo Natson away from winning).
Regarding the QB competition, I would remove Deshields from the group. I do not know anything about the JUCO qb. If spring practice were to go on like it normally did, then I would add Jankowski to the group. This would allow him to learn the offense and compete in the fall. His stats and tape were excellent. What everyone has to realize is that there will be 1-2 transfers after the winner is declared.
I do remember Goodman playing QB. I may be wrong, but if I remember correctly, Kato Nelson was a freshman and Bowden was red shirting him. Nelson would have been a better option at the time, but we lost games to save Nelson, and now he is not playing.

Nice win to end the streak. Arth needed this one. This win was expected as Akron were favorites in this game. Almost half of BGSU roster were true freshman.
A couple discussion points..1. Defense: Bubba set the tone on defense as a true leader with his consistency and playmaking ability. Let’s get him some help in 2021. Should the staff bring in multiple defensive ready to play juco/ P5 transfer players or continue to build the freshman route?
2. QB: Zach Gibson. Is he our future or do we need to bring in help? Sub-par performance today against a bad team. I’m guessing Kato is moving on from Akron.
3. Offense/ Run: was executed well today as expected. Teon had a nice game. Boogie looked really good on his lonesome drive. Why don’t they share touches or play Boogie in the slot sometimes? He looks like he could help us. We saw a glimpse of RBBC in week 1 against western Michigan.
4. Offense / pass: a few nice plays by the WRs. Stewart needs to be more involved. Need to be more creative with play calls to keep D off balance and get playmakers involved. Mix in occasional shot play. Good teams will stack box and make Gibson beat you ( Miami week 4).
5. 4th Quarter: I disagree with leaving Teon in the game. The game was decided and the weather was ugly. It was almost like they were trying to pad his stats. If he is our future, we need to take care of him. Let’s mix in backups and young players for the last couple drives.
Great day to be a Zips fan! Let’s build off of this for 2021
Very good analysis. A couple of comments:
1. Bubba had 16 tackles per the stats. I thought he had more.
2. If not Gibson, who is our future QB? is it the Marousek or the guy from Florida who starts in January?
3/4 - Offensively, BGSU outgained the Zips. Akron won the ground game, and BG won the air game.
5. I agree. With 5 minutes remaining, I wanted to see some of the frosh who see little to no time. It will not count as a season due to the rules this year.
Defense - I said this in another post, but look at the transfer portal. It is full of players from P5 schools. Let's get a DL, Lb, and DB for next year while we continue to grow the young players.
Freshman - Also, Akron has a similar number of FR and R-FR as BGSU. Many are walk on, so I am not sure they will have an impact. But, many position groups are very young. Look at the scholarship chart.

That is hilarious.
Zero reason to have any hope for this unless other teams are canceling their season.
I laughed all afternoon, and I do not think that BGSU cancelled their season. Oh well, I think that the zipsoutsider needs to stay out of the discussion going forward.

Good Lord! I love this description of the game. If this happens Big Jim I owe you a beer ..... or three, four, five, whatever. We will have a lot to celebrate. A win would feel real good.
I will take a 6 pack of Warsteiner to celebrate. See you in Lot 9 next year.

Zips will win soundly in this game by at least14 points. It will be a total team effort with solid running by Dollard and Knight. I am hoping the freshmen Childs and Norells get a handoff or two to get some experience. I expect a group receiving effort by Stewart, Grimes, Mathison and Qualls, and hopefully others that will catch balls from Gibson. The young OL will rebound with a solid effort. I am looking for the DL to play neutral, not great, but not as bad as they have been playing. And, Bubba will have a career day of 20 tackles. The DBs will also have a neutral day, making some plays and getting beat on some plays. Smigel and Romenick will be clutch. This game will set the stage for 4-5 wins next year and 9 wins in 2022.
A very solid prediction. I expect this to result in growth that will result in several wins next year and many in 2022.

Whose next in the transfer portal. Seems like we losing a lot of young men.
Looking for names and rumors of who will be added to the transfer portal. As of now, the transfer portal shows:
RB - Hayes Patrick
WR - Morris
DL - Meeks
TE/ILB - Wolfley
The portal currently shows that all 4 do not have a new school. Please comment if you have information that is different.

FYI, for each previous Akron game this year, I picked the Zips to lose by greater than 20. So, it is not like I pick the Zips to win each game. However, looking at the various scores of the MAC games, I have a mix of optimism and confidence in a solid victory. Also, at some point, the football gods need to step in and help out Akron. I hope I am correct, but if BGSU wins big, we are in deep trouble and should be rated 127th.

I do not see the joke and I do not believe it is hilarious. First, the Zips are favored in this contest. Also, if you compare scores of games that Akron and BGSU have played versus the same teams, the Zips appear to have an advantage. Finally, I view the game outcomes based on my past sports participation. I see little to no experience of other forum members who make inane comments of playing even high school based on the contributions on this forum. I will take my D1 experience as helping me make the correct decision in light of the lack of athletic experience that comes out of these comments. As of what is known today, the Zips will win. Good riddance to all the naysayers.

I hate to say it. I don't think we're gonna win.
Of course I've lost any shred of credibility I had as a prognosticator with my prediction last week that we'd beat Miami. So perhaps my pessimism is a good sign.
Idk, but I think the guys spirits will be down. Plus, we're so accustomed to losing Idk if we can sustain 4 good quarters of football.
I"m an Arth fan and supporter; I would have loved to have played for a coach with a demeanor and as consistently positive as Arth. But can Arth & Co. keep from losing the team through 2 straight winless seasons?
I hope I'm wrong.
You are wrong. The Zips will win. More details later in the week.

The Zips are still at 121, no change from last week after the 38-7 thrashing. I am very interested in the rankings after next weeks game against BGSU.

One of my main complaints about Arth was he brought a bunch of his former assistants for his staff instead of hiring a bunch of guys with DI experience. That may be coming back to bite him now.

Past posts show that several of Arth's assistants have moved on to bigger and better roles. Maybe the follow up hires have not been successful.

Can you say Gerry Faust?

I think you're going to need more than that.
Tell a recruit they will sit for at least 3 years or they can play immediately. That is a good start. Look at the O line with 4 red shirt freshman. The opportunity was great to play soon.

Every team they've played is bigger, faster, stronger and more athletic.
For those of you calling for the firing of Arth, it's wasted emotion. The school's finances simply won't allow it. Settle in. Enjoy basketball.
I agree that as a whole, every team is bigger, faster, stronger, and more athletic. However, we should have pockets and groups of players that are bigger and faster. Look at Miami today, we should have had several groups that are faster, but we were not prepared.
I agree that the firing of Arth is a wasted emotion. It was a frustrated 30 minutes of a lack of coaching and preparation.

How do you sell this to a recruit?
Easy sell. Do you want to see the field immediately because our talent level is low? We will have you playing in year one.

I have been an Arth supporter since day 1, but today has changed me. The team is not prepared in any way. Offense and defense is not ready for anything, even with being short on talent. And, I question the short on talent today. Look at the size and speed of the Miami players making plays, while the Zips sit there and do nothing. I know several people who did not like Arth at John Carroll, and thought they set back their sons. Now, I am agreeing. My comments are as follows:
Fire Arth

Odds
The RedHawks are a big 14-point favorite against the Zips, according to the latest college football odds.
The oddsmakers had a good feel for the line for this one, as the game opened with the RedHawks as a 14.5-point favorite.

Yes, the 1984 Orange Bowl was played January 2 1984, following the 1983 season. This was the 31-30 Miami victory and was one of the greatest college games of all time. Even the video above says National Championship. The 1984 Hurricanes went 8-5 and also lost to Boston College and Doug Flutie with the Hail Mary pass.

1) Zips will hold the Red Hawks under 30 points by getting permission from the MAC commissioner to play13 guys on defense.
2) Zips will score a TD using the now-banned fumblerooski play.
Great play. Was this the game that Bernie Kosar led Miami to a win and a national championship?

UMass is ranked 127, which is last. I saw that they were playing Liberty today (8-1), so I watched part of the first half on ESPN3. Liberty was up 31-0, but UMass did not look terrible on defense. Akron looked worse versus Kent. However, UMass had no offense. I guess that I am trying to convince myself that Akron is not the worst team. Also, Liberty has beaten some decent teams. They are a good team that I would have expected to be leading by more. Lets see how the Zips play in their next game.

I understand we are getting 3-4 guys back on defense. Cross, Wilson, Scott and C. Thomas. Mathison will play limited minutes but will return. Still not sure about Kato availability.
I see this game as competitive. I think we continue to progress offensively but will give up too many points. Getting better and improving is what I want to see. Beat BG and then we have something to build on going into next year.
The return of the defensive players will not result in major improvements, but it will add some depth and help grow to the future. Looking forward to see Mathison play, and hoping that Kato sits out the rest of the yearl

He was a 2 star out of HS. Also, he passed for less than 100 yards against BYU. Running game was great.
What point are you trying to make? If you want to argue stars, there are always exceptions. Let's look at T Lawrence and J Fields.
