http://www.fannation.com/truth_and_rumors/view/59851The Big East is considering adding Army and Navy to each play four football games a year, to allow for eight league games. Army might not want it, since it makes their schedule much harder. Navy might be willing to do it, though.I am wondering if we could do this. Play all non-MAC games against the Big East: two away games and two home games. We could play Cincinnati and Pitt every year. Two home games against BCS teams every year in the new stadium, and we can get revenue from two separate football conferences. Plus, it gets out foot in the door if they ever fully expand.

I don't think we're going to get as many home games as away games with the BE...it will cost too much. Something else we could do would be to stoke up a rivalry with Toledo by scheduling them every year. If they're not on our regular MAC schedule we could play them as an OOC opponent. It would be a good alternative to playing a 1-aa or Sunbelt team no one cares about and the travel distance is not too bad.

Down side to that plan if my math is correct is only 6 home games possible. I'm all for playing them, but leave the door open to more home games to pay for the stadium (and more income for the city with the teams and fans traveling here).

I think it is a good idea, but I wouldn't go for ALL of the non-conference games. Though I'm not a huge fan of us getting our heads kicked in every year by multiple Big, BCS Schools, I still think it is a requirement to play a major power ever other year for recruiting purposes. I would say we sign a deal with the BE for 2 games a year. I also prefer schools in the midwest, as I don't have the means to travel across the country once a year. I also think we should have one BCS school come to ICS at least every other year. Shell out the cash and hopefully down the road we can make it a yearly thing. Of course, this won't happen as the MAC wants us to be linked with the Big 11 which, lets just face it, is way out of our league. I hate the fact that we don't get good teams to come to Akron, it just increases the local stigma that we are a DI-AA caliber program. Bottom line, we need to have 6 games MINIMUM at ICS a year. No games in Cleveland, at "Neutral Home Site", and a maximum of ONE during a weeknight! It would be an outrage to shell out 50+ million to continue playing 4 games a year at home all on a Wednesday night!

Good idea. I've been saying for a couple of years now that we should intentionally try to stoke up a rivalry w/ Toledo. It's a natural rivalry-in-the-making. And, aside from the last 2 years, they have had an outstanding FB program.

Zipsrifle, what were you speaking of with this quote. Did I miss an announcement or something, or have you noticed a trend over the past couple of years that escaped me?

Toledo has made it clear that they want to leave the MAC at the first good opportunity. If we can build a good rivalry with them, they might take us with them. As of right now, though, their only real rival is BGSU, and that's the way they like it.

How and when did UT make it clear they want to leave the MAC?

I'm constantly hearing from UT's fans that they will jump to C-USA or anywhere else at the first chance. Apparently their athletic department also has that idea.

Looks like almost every MAC school has scheduled a B11 opponent for the last 4 years (including this year). When is Toledo gonna step up and play OSU? I thought the OSU signed a deal to play every Ohio MAC team? And whats with Indiana and Minnesota playing all the MAC teams? Also, I'm amazed at how WMU got Indiana at home last year and Illinois at home this year!

This is fairly old news, but the Rockets will "host" (big laugh) the Suckeyes in Cleveland Browns Stadium in 2009, followed by a later game in Columbus.Link

Oh, dude, you're so right. My question was a complete brain freeze - when you said Big 11 I was thinking you meant the Big 12. Yeah, of course you meant the Big 11(10). My bad. Dumb question.

I actually enjoyed digging through all that data. CMU really likes to play the B11 schools while OU has been late to the party. Also interesting to see which B10 teams heavily use the MAC to prop up the record.

Some of that is a matter of convenience as well. Is it easier for WMU to play Mich and MSU or Syracuse and UCONN? Granted, plenty of these games are pains for the vistors (namely anything in WI or MN), but geographically, the Big 10 makes more sense than the Big East more often.

Exactly and to add to your comment, most MAC schools need the money. And you'll get a bigger paycheck from Big10 than from Big East.
