g-mann17 Posted August 18, 2008 Report Posted August 18, 2008 New BuildingThis was supposed to be completed in 2006. I never have heard anything since then. Anyone got any information on this? Quote
ZachTheZip Posted August 18, 2008 Report Posted August 18, 2008 Wow. That would be an awesome addition to the campus and downtown. I never heard anything about it, though. I can't see it being buuilt in the near future due to a lack of funding. Maybe we will get a nice grant or something to get this started. Quote
ZippyRulz Posted August 18, 2008 Report Posted August 18, 2008 Yeah, I remember it well; it was on the Landscape for Learning wish list for a few years. I think they were trying to fund it privately via large/corporate donors and haven't been able to so far. International Business has been one of our strongly emerging programs and I'm sure they'd still like to do it...at least I haven't heard that it's been completely scrapped. It would be another cool modernistic building that would either connect campus to downtown (spanning the tracks) or act as a big partition. If they made it with an attractive 'front' on both sides it would serve as a nice bridge between the two. But the main thing is, it would also help the city skyline view from the stadium. Quote
ziptrumpet87 Posted August 19, 2008 Report Posted August 19, 2008 They show the address as 259 S Broadway which is where the current business college building is - and that was just built a few years ago (when they stole Simon Perkins from Grace Park). Unless they are thinking of a different location (SE corner of Broadway and Exchange?), it's probably a dead project. Quote
72 Roo Posted August 19, 2008 Report Posted August 19, 2008 From what I heard McCready had pledged $5M if the rest of the funds could be raised. They couldn't and this project is not on the radar screen. It was to have been built on the other end of the bridge that span the railroad tracks connecting the College of Business to the rest of campus. It would have been cool. Still is much needed to set apart our college of business that needs a boost. We have good programs, but this might have started us on the path to great programs. Quote
g-mann17 Posted August 19, 2008 Author Report Posted August 19, 2008 After reading what you all had to say, and doing a little more research... The McCready's did in fact donate 5 million to the Institute of Global Business. This was in 2001 at the time it was largest donation the school had seen. From there they did the feasibility study and it looked like they were planning on building the annex to the south of the current CBA building. So that would lead me to believe that a land procurement issue arose. There is an existing building to the south of CBA but I had always assumed it was part of te University already. Farther south is the Old Stone School, a historical landmark, so there could have been tie ups with that. I am going to try and contact someone in Capital Planning to see if can find out if the building is still on the radar. I just don't see spending 200 thousand on a feasibility study to let a project fall to the wayside. The other possibility is that rolling the stadium project pulled all the planning resources in 2005-2006 and they put all projects on hold until the stadium project was complete. Hopefully I can find out. Quote

UA does own the office building to the south of the CBA, and there's plenty of room to build it in between there and Old Stone. Quote

Maybe they just wanted a Broadway St address for more of a connection to downtown. I'm sure they're hanging on to any plans and drawings they've done for now. Quote
g-mann17 Posted August 24, 2008 Author Report Posted August 24, 2008 Well I got official word from the University. The plans are on hold until additional funding is available. The University holds it in a high priority. Quote

ZachTheZip Posted May 7, 2009 Report Posted May 7, 2009 That would really help our ranking if that building ever panned out!Nothing can help our ranking. We can have the world's greatest educational institution but we would still be in Tier 3 because of two factors: open enrollment and the "reputation survey" conducted by USNWR that counts more than any objective stats that they have. But I was referring the Business week rankings of the nations top b-schools. If we managed to get on the list with open enrollment, I'd imagine adding more facilities would raise our ranking. Now just imagine if Open enrollment was dropped..*dreams*...ahhh Quote

Builing across from the Law School. The bridge spanning the tracks would be replaced as well. Quote
