They're re-paving the whole East half of Market, giving it new sidewalks, planting trees, planting grass, ect. The only thing they need to do is find a way to move all those businesses with eyesore-buildings. Quote

Quickzips Posted August 22, 2008 Report Posted August 22, 2008 Question:Does the Beacon Journal have some kind of commenting requirement that you have to be a bitter, anti-government nut job with no life in order to post in their comments section???Seriously, Akron could probably be endowed with $100 billion from a private entity to assist homeless people, refurbish urban housing, create jobs, attract industry, build a new national capital and design spaceships that can take Akron citizens to far away planets with luxirious resorts and these people would STILL be pissed off. They do it because it the only way they can get their kicks is to piss other people off. They like to create reactions, possibly because it is the only way they know how to get other people to aknowledge their existance. Their situation is a sad one, being the lowest of internet life-forms. Quote

Everything is going to fail if it happens in Akron. Akron is a shit-hole with the worst schools and highest crime rate. When statistically speaking none of it is true.I understand, bad attitude because you lost your Union Tire job, where you could dick around and make 30 tires a day. And that you could go on strike because they took everyone's favorite cupcakes out of the break room. (i'm not anti-union, i'm anti-striking that's what arbitration is for). But do you really have to hate everything that is new and better. And I know that there are some people on here that are Anti-Mayor. But these people fail to realize that the majority of the rubber jobs left before he ever took office, and there was little he could do to stop the remainder of the factory work from leaving because of the ground work the prior administrations had left him. But anytime anything goes wrong it's his fault. Any time anything good happens it's "oh Mayor is lining his pockets some more". Get over it. And you are right, Akron could gift everyone with 100,000 a year jobs, and machines that pushed filet, prime rib, and any other kind of food you could imagine. Give everyone free transportation, put the entire city under a dome to keep it a cool 72 degrees year round, let people vote if they want it to snow. And they would still bitch about something. I used to think it was just trolls, but now I think people are just generally happy thinking miserable thoughts and posting them. Quote

Ever notice that when a Zips article comes up the first 3 posts are from Can't fans bashing UofA?? I think a lot of flush fans have Zipper envy! Quote
Zipsrifle Posted August 23, 2008 Report Posted August 23, 2008 I'll tell you what, I'm pretty pumped about Akron's future right now. Name another city in Ohio that is undergoing such a massive reinvestment with global corporations and the likelyhood that hundreds of white collar jobs will be created???? If I had the money, I'd be buying property along East Market street right now. With downtown improving on one end, Goodyear construction on the other end and UofA and Summa in the middle, that stretch of road is gonna be changing dramatically here in the near future! On the other hand, it'll be interesting to see what happens in Firestone Park. The new building could really revitalize the area, depending upon what happens to the old Firestone HQ. Now, what are everyone's thoughts on selling the sewers to pay for college tuition??? Quote

They're tearing down the projects near the swamp to the south of the Firestone HQ, and turning them into a major retail area. Quote
