Buckzip Posted September 2, 2008 Report Posted September 2, 2008 i wanna know what's up with devoe torrence. I hear the guy is a beast at linebacker but i dont see him in the game. Why would you want to play LB in a 3-3-5? I bet if we played the 3-4 he would be dying to play LB.If my goal was to play in the NFL, I would be very hesitant to play for a team that plays the 3-3-5 if I wasn't a DB.If you have good d-lineman, the linebackers would get a lot of tackles. Dr Z Posted September 2, 2008 Report Posted September 2, 2008 I never bought into these kind of excuses in sports...if we had better WR, then the QB would be good.If the OL was good, then our RB would be better...and so forth. If you are good at your position, you will shine. I understand that football is a team sport. Take for example just this week, as bad as the defense was, I can still pick out a defensive player that played great.Dwight Smith played for some pretty pathetic defenses and played some pretty awesome games. One doesn't always have to do with the other. Getting back to the "note to JD" topic. My note would read like this:Dear JD (and Jim Fleming) make a halftime defensive adjustment. Thank you, Dr Z. Quote

I believe his name was pendeltion. Is he not there anymore? Is he hurt? What's up with him? Would like anyone to comment. Quote

I hear the guy is a beast at linebacker but i dont see him in the game.He wants to play RB, so that's where he will play. Maybe over the course of the year, the coaches can convince him to play defense a bit so he can get on the field more.what an idiot...my god, play for the team not yourself Quote

Thank you, Dr Z.Well said. Please excuse (pun intended) but I disagree with Dr Z (rhyme too). Football teams are similar to automobiles... if a part or two are not functioning well, then it can affect the operation of the entire vehicle (team). No one likes excuses because you are pardoning bad play, but to put blame on a player that is not warranted is just as troubling, and this is what can happen if you expect a player to shine no matter what. One of the things that makes this forum interesting is the discussion of what might need fixed for this team to be successful. For example, our new skill players on offense (especially our receivers) seem to have provided a badly needed spark that was missing last year. Could it be that all those on this forum condeming our QB's were misdirected. Maybe, we'll have to see as the season progresses. On defense at Wisconsin, our underclassmen (mostly Freshman) d-line was destroyed. This did affect our linebacker play and required our DB's to make too many stops. Not pardoning (excusing) anyone, but this is what happened. We were broke down and we needed a repair in the form of a 4-3 D. It didn't happen for some reason (we had the bodies, despite the injuries, to move into this defense) and on this point we agree. Why no adjustment? Quote
