I know OSU, Michigan, and Notre Dame are not among them.

My guesses: St. Louis, UNC, Penn State, UVA, and Oakland (Michigan).

What are your thoughts?

Anyone have factual information that supports/refutes my guesses?

I would guess that Maryland, UNC, and UVA would be among them. Duke? WF? I will have to do some digging.

Akron is 2-2-0 against Virginia http://gozips.com/sports/msoc/2009-10/releases/204847862_1

2-2-0 against North Carolina

8-3-0 against Cincinnati

2-2-1 against Wake Forest

I can not find the last time we played Maryland

The last time we played Maryland that counted was Ken Lolla's last year as Head Coach (2005). 1-1 draw in the NCAA Tournament (Elite 8, I believe). Maryland advanced on PK's. Either this didn't count as a tie in those days as it would now, or the records in the media guide are regular season only because our record against Maryland is listed as 1-1-0 (W-L-T).

According to last year's media guide...

Evansville 8-9-1

Howard 2-8-0

Indiana 6-23-2

SIU-Edwardsville 0-12-1

St. Louis 3-7-0

Wisconsin-Milwaukee 8-9-0

I wonder when the last time was we played SIUE.

Yes, these stats are exclusively regular season.

We beat Hoosiers at home in 2009, off Mikey Nanchoff's last minute free kick. Remember? That was beginning of the season tournament, right? And then we beat them at home in 2010 during the NCAAs, right? Those stats are regular season only.

Wow! It will take quite some time to level with Indiana. I remember many an @$$ whooping from Jerry Yeagley's teams. I predict we lose to them out at Notre Dame this year. Hoosiers are on the rise again, so watch out. :nono:

I disagree. IU may be on the rise, but so are the Zips. I think we take them on the neutral field, even though it's in their state. GO ZIPS!

I'm more amazed at the record vs SIUE, When is the last time we played them? We face them in the Creighton Tournament in the Fall. This is the year to erase that "0".

the all time series record against Indiana is 6-24-2 according to this http://gozips.com/sports/msoc/2009-10/releases/204796260_1

I have Akron going undefeated next year so it will be 7-24-2

You had me going, but that can't be correct... The 2011 media guide shows the Zips as 0-0-1 vs UC-Berkley (Goals 3-3) with 1st meeting in 2010. That's the Elite 8 game in the 2010 NCAA Tourney.

Great to see my old post finally getting some play. I remember writing this nearly three and a half years ago. Crazy, seems like it was last week, but three great seasons and a National Championship later, here we are.

Anyhow, the series records from the media guide are inclusive of the post-season.

Interesting how I proposed a ways back (can anyone find the thread?) that we schedule programs with whom we aren't winning in the all-time series...and we have a schedule featuring UI, SIUE, and SLU.

Would anyone like to expand on this thread and suggest other programs they'd like to see us play in the future? I'll start...Georgetown...big name, Big East school and I can't remember us playing them since I started closely following the program 15 years ago. The same goes for UCLA.

There are several old threads worth reviving, this one needed to be brought back to life seeing you were left hanging. I can't remember if soccer had its own board back then or was in the "other sports" area. I'd like to see Akron compared to other Ohio schools.

Zip-_87, Edwardsville was a true power in collegiate soccer in my time at Akron (late seventies, early eighties). However, I could swear that Akron defeated SIUE at Lee Jackson early in the season in which they won the NCAA tiitle, about 1977 or '78. That was the year in which their coach suffered a heart attack midway through the season, and I believe they went undefeated the rest of the way through October to the end of the season (which I think ended in November back then). Is SIUE playing in D-1 again? they downgraded their whole athletic program in the 80s.

Here's a nice bit of trivia: Who was Ohio University's men's soccer coach in the late 70s? Bob Bradley! I suspect it was a club team however. Back in those days club teams played against varsity opponents during the regular season, but couldn't participate in the post-season. Two schools which played very good club soccer at that time (and were capable of holding their own vs UA) were Notre Dame and Oakland. Their soccer programs went varsity only in the 90s I believe. Anyone know the dates for sure?

You are correct. Those stats must be post season as well. I was misreading the stat.

It is still amazing that we have defeated Indiana only 6 times out 32 meetings. Over the life of the soccer program, Hoosiers are the nemisis of the Zips. Damn them!

That tournament this year at Notre Dame really scares me.
