Classy Davis Family

Recommended Posts

Sat in section 4 today, where some pretty dedicated Zips fans sit, including family of players and lots of boosters. Good fans all, except wouldn't you know that several Testicle Tech Chirpers in their red glory sat right behind us and chattered an awful lot most of the game. At least some of them were family of Nate Davis and at one point one of them gloated about how Nate would be in the NFL draft next year. So here are these Chirpers sitting dead smack in the middle of the Akron home crowd, full of Akron players' families and boosters, talking and chattering. As the game slipped away they got more mouthy, and one old lady in particular sported a fine tobacco-tinged Appalachian accent. This was all capped off when in the 4th quarter, as one of them made an obnoxious comment, a fan next to me groaned loudly. The old woman yelled "d*ckhead" in response. Classy, Ball State fan. Classy. I think I hate Nate Davis now.Maybe the fan scene at the new digs next year will be such that obnoxious visiting fans won't feel so comfortable pwning our core home seating areas. :D GO ZIPS!

And Brady Hoke-y is lucky that Nate didn't get himself hurt when he still had him in there after that 1st down that sealed the deal. I also sat near the Belair Buffoons and they were truly "special". I am now an official CMU fan for 2008.At least the putrid throng of red and silver pieces of garbage my fellow Zip fans and I left playing with themselves at Ohio Brewing are no doubt in deep, dark depression at this time :D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D

Imagine a world in which millions of people who had NO connection to OSU would actually NOT be in love with them! How many NE Ohio Suckeye fans have NO connection of any sort with Columbus, the university there, and yet still play front runner to root for the Suckeyes. How many hours each week do NE Ohio sports radio talkers waste sucking up to "the vest" and that program? I truly do not understand it and never will. Disgusting, and I for one revel in Schadenfreude every time they get crushed. Maybe some of the lame Akron OSU fans, front runners all, will follow our team and engage with the Zips when they move to their new digs next year and continue to progress.Go Zips!SeeTee

I must admit, I am having fun reading all of the articles this morning about the Suckeyes game last night. And one pretty common theme seems to follow every article.... the fact that USC is talking about how they were seeing a Cowlumbus State that was running both offensive and defensive sets that were exactly what they expected to see. And since we seem to get a few fans of the red and silver that come on here from time to time praising their almighty team, I have to bring this to the forefront...Please...all of you...stop with the bull about how they "take it easy on MAC schools", and "don't show their playbook". The truth is, the playbook is unimaginative against every opponent. The Ohio U. game last week, that was too close for comfort, and our game against them last year, which had us at 3-2 at halftime and within a touchdown through 3 quarters, is just what you should expect as long as you keep the current coach in place. So, what happens when you play teams that have this knowledge AND the talent to do something about it? Refer to last night's game and the last 2 national championship games for the results. Find ways to justify this all you want this morning, but like a few of the article said....the entire nation knows what's going on, yet the entire Suckeye Nation (and their vast bandwagon of fans) appears to be in complete denial. And the Big 10 continues to sink in overall strength, which seems to also indicate another troubling trend that isn't going to help their situation.

So you come here and make childish name calling posts. You are a big man. Suckeyes....Hahahahha, Real mature ...Cowlumbus, hahahahah-Idiot.If you think OSU fans aren't saying what you just said, you are completely wrong. OSU fans are pissed off about the lack of offense and creativity. Tressel is being questioned very loudly and has been for 3 years now.I find it amusing that even though our Zips look like crap, that you are so jealous and insecure that you get more pleaseure out of seeing someone else lose than seeing Akron win.I know, I know, now I get attacked for defending my other Alma mater when some POS has to say this BS.You want to know what a badwagon fan is? A bandwogon fan is a fan that only comes around when the team is doing well. You know, kind of like UA fans that showed up when UA went to the MCB, or showed up here only after US went to the MCB.OSU was selling out 100,000 when they had down years and were mediocre. They will continue to sell out. USC, Miami, those are bandwagin fans. However, since you are so obsessed, you don't see it. You need to get a life.Go ahead and bash now. It's the loser mentality.

And idiot and POS is your idea of maturity? This is a fan chat site....fans of The University of Akron....and we just happen to be enjoying watching a team get their butts whipped that competes against us for athletes, students, and media attention. What do you expect?
Amen. Go get PO'd about your Suckeyes elsewhere. I can understand that you're a fan of both schools, that's fine, and that's only because you GRADUATED from both. Now, Buckzip, you have to understand that the VAST majority of us are fans of ONE school. ONE team. Our LOCAL team or our ALMA MATER. We yearn for a state, like Indiana, where Ball State has A CHANCE to compete. Will it ever change in Ohio? Probably not, there's too many frontrunners out there who are in love with OSU. Including a large portion of all University graduates in Ohio. We can still hold out hope, and every loss, every big HIGH PROFILE loss that's pinned on your OTHER team helps our team out. Don't get me wrong man, we appreciate your support of the Zips. Wish more were like you... but a lot of us will always root against that team from columbus.

Strange Sunday. Perhaps some one might clue me in.At Mass this morning there was not one piece of Buckeye paraphernalia. Not one, why?At my favorite after church restaurant which is usually a sea of red on Sundays there were no Buckeye rags of any sort. Why?Did I miss something? You mean to tell me that one little ass kicking made all those loyal fans stow their red and lam'efor the season? Gosh, I hope not, as Cant folks do not lurk out here in Wadstucky. By golly weneed some one to abuse.Ah shucks, didn't see any clown brown gear either. They must be choking on those terrible towels. To quote Brady Quinn, "Its all Charlie's fault!"

No, it's been what we've been saying for years.People in Ohio will glomp on to anything that wins a fair amount of time. They haven't had a championship in ages, and when there is some success, there is rarely if ever anything remotely like a dynasty. So, the buckeyes come along and get one national championship and then some ranked seasons, and everyone in this state clings onto that team like that nerdy guy always shadowing the semi-popular guy who has an odd sorta sympathy to tolerate him. Then when the team gets humiliated by a real power (again), they tuck their tail between their legs and stop yelling "OH ACH" in public places.I'm not talking about OSU grads here. I'm talking about the strongsville soccer mom who wears the scarlette jersey out shopping but still has to ask what a safety is. I'm talking about that 35 year old sales guy who never even played backyard football in his depraved youth but cracks open his heineken on saturday afternoon, turns on the TV and tries to mimic a sports fan.

Didn't see much - check that, ANY - Zips gear this morning either. And I never do. Ever. You want to talk about frontrunners? Why is it that the basketball team consistently contends for the MAC Title, yet we struggle to fill the JAR? That is, until the Can't game and MAC Tournament, when all of the "die-hard" fans come out all of the sudden. Why is it that the football team has never had good attendance, even the year they won the MAC Title? The biggest Zips crowd I saw was the bowl game, when all of the "die-hards" who couldn't travel 15 minutes to the Rubber Bowl made the trip to Detroit. This isn't to say the people on this board are frontrunners...absolutely not true. This group is the core of the Akron Zips fan base IMO, and would follow these teams no matter what. But as a whole? Zips "fans", especially the student body, might be some of the biggest frontrunners in the state of Ohio. As BuckZip pointed out, OSU sells out their games every year, regardless of how well the Buckeyes are predicted to finish or how well the season is going. Frontrunners? I call that team loyalty. But many here are bitter. Bitter that OSU's football program will always be better than Akron's. That 99 times out of 100, OSU will have first shot at the better recruit. That local media covers OSU a ton (remember too - they cover what the majority of readers want). That they consistently sell out home game after home game. So when OSU gets drilled on the road by the #1 team in the nation, many will jump at the chance with a "Ha! They got beat!". They'll bash the program for being overrated, they'll bash the fans for being frontrunners. And they'll block out that the Zips got shelled by Ball State, at their home opener, in front of 9,000 people. Maybe that "die-hard" fan base will come out again if they make it to another bowl game...who knows. In closing, remember this. For the fan base to grow, "casual" fans must attach themselves to the Zips. Many of those casual fans currently cheer for OSU, not because they are a frontrunner, but because that's what they grew up watching, and because it's the only team they've had an attachment to. And many of you bash them, calling them frontrunners as our team draws 9,000 to a home opener, or making fun of OSU losing to the #1 team on the road as Akron loses to Ball State at home.Boy..., if I wasn't a Zips fan, that'd sure make me want to join your fan base. Bitterness, jealousy, bashing someone for following a team. That'll draw em in...Instead of all of that, why not invite them to a game? Let them see our product on the field. Let them enjoy a Zips tailgate. Let them meet the great, knowledgable fans that we have. Let them get a picture with Zippy, chant Can't State sucks, or cheer and sing to Blue and Gold. THAT is how our fan base will grow...getting people to see firsthand how great of a school this is. NOT by continuing to move on with our noses in the air and chips on our shoulders.

I was at the OSU vs. USC game last night and I am posting from LAX right now. Here is what you missed and it has to do with the sea of red. The sea of red was flowing from their seats to the gates at the end of the third quarter last night after OSU put up 4 yards of offense in the third quarter .The only thing that could have made the humiliation of OSU more complete last night would be the following scenario. Coach T. and Coach C. meet at mid field for the post game handshake. Coach C. says, "Look Jim, there is a UFO in the sky." At that point, Coach T. looks up to see the UFO and when he does that, Coach C. pulls his pants down and runs away making the "V" for victory sign.I know this is a Zips board, but I have never seen as complete of a college team in person as what USC has. Even though the game was out of hand and some might consider that boring, it wasn't. Everyone is good and they use everyone in a balanced way. It is almost art.Five things I will remember most about last night:1. Erin Andrews2. USC Song Girls3. The friendliness of the USC fans around me4. Traveler lighting the Olympic Torch at the end of the 3rd quarter (USC game day tradition).5. Sitting in endless traffic and the disorganized nature of the parking situation. Some of you consider yourselves to be experts on parking and you would have had a stroke yesterday.

Actually. we can do both. The OSU frontrunning has been going on forever. It's not a recent phenomenon. I could not agree more that the Zips have been overlooked, right in their own home and by their own people, and I hate that. For those of us who attended UA and have had to listen to OSU frontrunning in NE Ohio for decades (I graduated from UA in the 80s), their is extreme schadenfreude whenever OSU gets their asses kicked. I am one of those who prays for MAC victory, any time and any place, over pretty much any Big Ten program. Part of it is love of underdogs. Part of it is pure spite for the big-name programs. Those of us who feel these ways wish for two things: an increase in prominence in our forlorn program at UA AND for many very bad, painful years for Big Ten programs. I want years where Big Ten teams get the shiite kicked out of them by some MAC schools, including the Zips. Remember the movie Breaking Away? Remember the small cutter kid who had the huge chip on his shoulder and got into constant fights with the rich university kids? If you cannot identify with that kid, if your heart doesn't sing when he kicks ass, you will never understand this dynamic. And if you don't, screw you!SeeTee

And the reason the zips draw 9000 fans at a game and will always have trouble building a fanbase and program is because of the land grant down south. I want to get into the Big East for crying out loud. Who's to say we couldn't do it if our own students and alumni would support their alma mater, but they don't. With this OSU love fest we'll have a lot of trouble making a case if there is a split. Really, I have no reason to dislike OSU, and they really do have something great going on down there, but I am sick and tired of seeing more Buckeye crap on campus than Akron. The OSU fans on this board are great zip fans who know just as much about the team as any of us. I wish there were more OSU fans like Buckzip and sgm who will actively support their alma mater, and if more were like them maybe I would pull for the Buckeyes right along with them, but OSU DOES affect us and our fellow MAC brethren. I pull for any MAC school who plays them because of the effect it can have on our program. Can't State can take a hike though. :screwks:

AmenI hate seeing other Zips fans bash each other. BuckZip, and Sgm are great Zips fans and I'm proud to have them. Although they should get heat for defending OSU in ZippyLand, they should be treated with respect. The name calling going back and forth here is a little immature.

As far as I know, the only people chirping at the Rubber Bowl were a group of three of us... and we all sat in General Admission around the 35 behind BSU's bench. By the way, that area was almost ENTIRELY BSU... That's the reason we were sitting there...The vast majority of the comments we said were directed at our own team. Hell, we were sitting back predicting the exact play Hoke would call for the majority of the second half because he randomly goes on riffs of conservative offense that is EXTREMELY frustrating and predictable to watch. Shoot we were doing the chirp, singing the fight song, and other assorted BSU-related things...Is that to say we didn't launch a comment or two at Akron? Of course we did. The cheerleaders spelled Akron wrong after yall scored a TD (it was spelled "Akorn"). And the people who left early obviously got an earful, and we do that at home games. BSU was one of the worst teams in the country three years ago, and I never left early. Hell, I didn't even leave when CMU throttled us last season. And for the record, we were really going at the fans wearing OSU gear because I think wearing that at another school's game is unacceptable. We deal with that bull at our games too except its both OSU and the festering pit that is Notre Dame (especially).
Classy. I think I hate Nate Davis now.
Uh, we had an old lady say to get the "balls out of our mouth" after we sang the fight song... That doesn't mention the heckler that kept coming over to sit in our section for most of the first half, although I think he was eventually escorted out of the building. The classy thing falls on both sides like it does for any sporting event. Hell, if he was more adamant about getting the student section up in as he was about getting our section, yalls section would have been much more effective. Now I can only give what I knew was going on, but from what I could see.. The vast majority of BSU fans were in our section, and they were relatively quiet outside of maybe six or seven of us.And this is an unrelated note... Why are the Rowdies so freaking far away from the field and the team? I mean that doesn't make much sense to me. When BSU was god awful, at least the players could hear us being loud and excited because were were directly behind their bench. I always thought that it made the experience so much more enjoyable for them and for us... Hell, that's why we sat right behind them at the game yesterday. I'm unfamiliar with how prevalent putting the students that far away is, but as a student I certainly like being with the team more.Anyway, BSU has a long way to go to be anywhere close to where they want to be. Our defense was very lucky yesterday. We've been pretty good in the redzone, but our defense can't be letting teams get in there so often. I was relatively impressed with your offense despite the turnovers. BSU's picks mostly came off of tipped balls. The only thing that I couldn't understand was that your center almost always hike the ball high in to the QB. I don't know if that was rain-related or whatever, but it seemed like every other one went high. The Akron offense looked formidable though... Yesterday should have been a shootout.

WOWIE BuckChuck. A little touchy are we? Why don't you STFU, you idiot POS? <<---using your own words to keep it your level. This is a ZIPS board. Take your whiny OSU manlove to a Suckeyes board why don't you? <<---me laughing at youSeeTee
Exactly what I expected. You morons bring it up and then attack me for responding. Typical idiot...You are laughing that OSU lost, but don't care that UA did too. You are truly an idiot....NEXT

So Bobby if you were a Grad of 2 schools and one schools board was bashing your other school for no reason, you would not defend it? Remember, I didn't come here and start this. Some nube jackass had to do it.

And idiot and POS is your idea of maturity? This is a fan chat site....fans of The University of Akron....and we just happen to be enjoying watching a team get their butts whipped that competes against us for athletes, students, and media attention. What do you expect?

This is a ZIP fan chat board .... and I for one am getting a little tired of seeing and hearing about Ohio State on this board. Whether it is defending the buckeyes or ripping them I feel it is an unnecessary distraction from the main purpose of this board. That is talking about the ZIPS.

There are a lot of die hard Akron fans here that do not like OSWho and are vocal about it. I personally don't understood why Sgm or Buckzip get so upset when OSU gets bashed here, this is Zipsnation and fans should be allowed to bash whichever team they want as long as it's not the Zips.I personally never do any OSWho bashing anywhere on the board except for the Offtopic, Smack section. I learned my lesson a year or 2 ago.No one here should be called an Idiot. Your quest to defend OSWho in ZipplyLand is getting too personal.

I must say that I'm jealous that you went to the game. If I was there, I would being enjoying what I saw. I've only seen USC on television but when they're on, they're on and fun to watch. Like you said, they're a balanced football team. When Akron won the MAC in 2005, a couple of their fans said really nice things about that game and our team on one of the other sports message boards. They didn't have to respond, but they saw a great game and wanted to comment. It would be really cool if Akron could become a team like that in the future. It's happened to other teams in non-BCS conferences, why not the MAC and Akron.

I don't get upset about it. I laugh at it. I think it is funny.I get upset with the people that get upset with me for defending one of my Alma Maters. I never, ever have brought up OSU. Others do and then they say this is a Zips board and we shouldn't be talking about OSU. Helloooooo..Duh.Hey, I agree. I am not the one starting the topics. I don't get how that is so hard to understand....

That nube jackass would be me BuckChuck, and I in no way addressed you in my original posts. You can call me a nube of course, if you consider a middle-age guy who graduated from UA in the 80s a nube. I reveled in Suckeye agony last night, and it would only have been better if the Zips had executed earlier in the afternoon. If you're really so thin skinned that you cannot bear to have your Columbus team ragged on ON A ZIPS BOARD, that says everything about you, and nothing about the rest of us.By the way, you were the one who took the discussion into the gutter by (1) telling me to "STFU", and (2) calling another poster a POS and polishing the whole affair off with lashing out at the "idiots" who disagreed with you. <<--me laughing at you, again.GO ZIPSSeeTeeZip
