I will say that the game day experience was awesome. Everyone in my group, none of whom are Akron alums and none of whom had ever been to a game at the RB, had a blast at the tailgate and got to experience a good ball game. I also heard that attendance was 17,000 (sure, many UC fans added to that number). Nice send-off for the RB and I can't wait until 9/19/09! Everyone I brought to the game had a good time and plans on returning with me - that's what the new stadium and the direction this program is in is all about.Go Zips!Bottom line. Akron lost. It was not a good day.

It was not a good day.Eh, I still think it was a good day. At the end of the season this may be the most painful of all our losses, but, in a way, doesn't that make it a good day - feeling the exhilarating highs and painful lows is the distraction that sports is all about, right? A bad day is a "Blah, we had no chance from 5-minutes into the 1st quarter," day. We haven't had one of those days in a really long time, have we? This program is competitive on a high level. And (this is a good thing) most of us are coming to the point of expecting that! And I think Jac played a very good game. I know the last 3 minutes were a disappointment, but he kept us in the game (we should have won!) for 57 minutes. I'm a Jac defender now because I doubted him before the season began and believed that JD was blowing smoke when he'd say how much Jac's progressed as a QB. And I said as much on this board. I've been proven wrong so now I'll defend Jac on the board. He's a very good MAC QB and far exceeding my low preseason expectations. (Btw, if Rogers is right on his heels, then we've got it made at QB for the next 4 years!)It was the kicking game that lost this one for us. 5 points left on the field by the kicking team today. Also, IMHO, what was most important for me, is that I brought 3 friends to the game - one friend who had never been to the Rubber Bowl before! - and all 3 had a great time and want to return! In fact, my friend who'd never been to a Zips' game asked me when the next game was before I ever suggested he may want to come to the next game! That's progress! I also drove him by The Info after the game and he was gawking @ how big the stadium is and was wondering about season tickets!!! I feel we are most definitely on the right path w/ this program! Dr Z
I have a hard time getting excited about a loss, but the defense should be given credit this week, they played well. They put pressure on the QB more than once. That is a positive thatshould be taken from the game. Keep it up D!Sitting at the game I couldn't help think to myself "if I was game planning against the Zips, this would not be the way I would attack them." Cincy offensive coaches did not impress me.On offense, I wish we could have changed something up in the fourth. I wish we had something that teams had very little, or no film on. We had two good chances to put together a game winning drive and did the same thing that proved to be ineffective for much of the game. We missed opportunities yes, but we also had opportunities crushed by AWFUL/TERRIBLE/QUESTIONABLE/UNFAIR/POSSIBLY BIAS refereeing. I've never been so shocked at continuous flags thrown at opportune times for one team. It was very fishy. Are you talking about the same officials that overturned a spot that would have made us punt, instead after reviewing the spot we got a 1st down and continued the drive? Yeah, they were BIAS alright.

Yeah, they were BIAS alright.Except it was the Big 10 officials that run the instant replay review that made that decision not the Big East officials. I believe he was referring to the Big East officials that blow a whistle too early that it hurts a potential fumble call and therefore negates any instant replay. When that play was under review it was under review for the spot not the fumble. The Big East officials who blow a whistle late and risk getting one of our receivers injured after he was grabbed by two people and pushed back 5 yards only to be smacked by the Cinci D-end. Yes we could have won that game, if we kicked a field goal, or if we made the other field goal we attempted. That's 6 points and a win. Or if we make the 2 extra points instead of getting one blocked and failing on a two point conversion. That makes 8 points. But what if Brian Kelly decides to kick the field goal on 4th and inches instead of going for it only to get stuffed. Or what if he decides to punt instead of trying on 4th and 3 only be stuffed again. Both teams had chances to win. But only Akron had chances ruined by the officiating. The problem is Akron had more chances to win then Cincinnatti and we ended up not being successful. My biggest take away is that perhaps this game and Army (lost 21-17 to Texas A&M) is an indication of an improved defense. If so, we have an extremely nice chance of a 7-5 or better season.
