Leave your mark on the stadium!

As I was walking to class today, I noticed something awesome: a huge steel beam sitting in the new Coleman Commons outside of the Student Union and Buchtel Hall. There were signs up next to it, encouraging students to sign the beam with a permanent marker. The beam will apparently be used in the new stadium. Possibly in a visible location (it was painted white, like the visible beams in the renderings of the concession stands and entrance). Bring your own Sharpie and write your name/message on the stadium! This is a great, and highly visible, piece of marketing to get the students involved. We need more stuff like this.I wish I has a camera with me. Maybe some one here has one and would like to put up some pics.

I'll be heading up there tonight for the soccer game so I'll snap some pictures for everyone along with leaving my mark on the new stadium. I heard about it via a Special Edition Zipmail email today so I stopped by and there are already quite a few signatures on there. Hopefully we'll load that thing up. On a side note...Has anyone been over to the construction site lately? Over by one of the old brick half-walls that were on the corner by exchange st. there is this mock-up wall sitting there that appears to be the styling of all the bricks used for the new stadium. Happened to see it as a rode by on my bike. I figure that its there to give people who pass by an idea of the architecture of the building, but you never know...

This is great they're letting people sign the beam. This is a construction tradition. The beam will probably be the "topping out beam" meaning, the last one put in place. The topping out beam is usually painted white, signed by the construction workers and hoisted to the top with an American flag and Christmas tree attached. However, unless the design of the stadium allows it, you probably won't be able to see it after construction is finished.

i noticed a big ak-rowdies on top and right below it a more like a-gay-rowdies. there was also a hail crackron. i was mostly surprised at the lack of penises on it.
And I only saw about two peace signs. I suppose the student hippie population could care less about the new stadium.

Photo?
I'm heading up there today. It rained last night and I didn't want to take my camera out in the rain.
If you forget or don't have time I planned on bringing my cam to class tomorrow.Do me a favor and take a pic of the top left corner though, nearest the tennis courts :)

Stopped over at the beam and the stadium to take some pictures. akronzipsbetch... I looked and didn't see anything. That beam was LOADED by the time I had gotten there (3:30-ish today). I didn't see a whole lot that was offensive... glad that a lot of students stopped by to put their name on it. I put mine on there twice just for good measure. Here are pics of the beam.
