This seems semi appropriate since we are in the middle of our double buy weeks.I can remember when this years schedule come out, I cringed. Two buy weeks in a row? Thursday game? Wednesday game? MAC screwed us again!Remember when we weren't in the MAC? Check out this schedule. I'm sure a many of you remember this schedule, but I'm guessing some frequent visitors here don't.How do you see the schedule changing in the future, say 10 years down the road?wzip.jpgIn case you were curious about the results from 1991 click here

I remember that season well. By that time, we had about 5 years under our belt as a 1-A team, had finally gotten up to 95 scholarship players like the other teams in 1-A, had some good recruits coming in (and FINALLY some much-needed depth), and really started to show that we would indeed be the first team to turn 1-A...AND be able to stay there. None of us old timers were prophets at that time, but we all agree today that we saw what was coming. For those who don't remember....we started playing in the MAC the following year, and posted the best record (7-3-1) we had in our 1-A era. In fact, that record still stands today. Anyway....to answer the post....there were some tough teams on that schedule in 1991 who beat up on us, but overall it was a little weak. But it was a great schedule for a program still trying to grow. I wouldn't want to see us playing a schedule like that today. The one schedule that always bothered me was the 03 schedule that had us playing Cal Poly SLO and Howard as our out-of-conference home games. We were way too well established as a 1-A by that time to be playing two teams of that quality, and those games were quite boring.

This is a great topic. To me, it comes down to how I would want to spend my money and in 1991 I was a graduate student without much money to spend on anything (although I did spend a large portion of it at BW3 at the time). I'm not certain, but I think all of the home games were I-AA teams in 1991. If the Zips are a I-A team, I'm not interested in paying to watch them play I-AA teams. Does anyone else notice the absence of a team from Portage County? The 1991 away games are good teams to watch the Zips play, but none of them are really within a reasonable driving distance for a fan to go watch. This year has some good home games and now there are games in November that will mean something. Toledo is a good team to go watch, UC is a BCS school, Ball State is a Top 20 team (in the polls) and Buffalo is a title contender. EMU was within reasonable driving distance.Hands down, the 2008 schedule is better.

The beginning of that season was horrid, especially getting ROCKED at home in an Acme-Zip game by 1-AA Illinois St. BTW the 1st 3 home games were indeed versus 1-AA foes, but both Arkansas St and Northern Illinois (during their odd MAC "sabbatical") were 1-A programs. The absence of the flushes is striking for sure. One other point of interest is this. I'm not 100% sure, but I think this is the last time UA defeated YSU in football :puke:
