Blue & Gold Posted November 13, 2008 Report Posted November 13, 2008 Wow! We need to have the best soccer program in the nation, sign 7-foot towers of thunder, and play last-ever games at the RubberBowl more often! Quote
GP1 Posted November 13, 2008 Report Posted November 13, 2008 I would like to say that I feel bad this is the last game at the RB, but I really can not. The place has been an anchor around the neck of this program for years and it saw beter days long before I was born in 1969. Saying goodbye to the RB is like saying goodbye to a car with 200,000 miles on it the day you bought your new car. There is only excitment about the future. Goodbye to the RB and good riddance. I am much more worried about winning tonight. Regardless of the last game or not, the Zips need to focus on winning. I am at the airport now on my way to a hunting trip in Colorado where I will have not TV or phone service until Sunday. I am looking forward to seeing the results when I get back to Denver on Sunday. Good luck Zips and you guys have fun at the game tonight. See everyone next week. Quote
akronad Posted November 13, 2008 Report Posted November 13, 2008 I can't say that I feel bad with the closing of the RB. God knows we have needed a stadium on campus forever. As GP1 was born, I graduated fron hs & attend Akron. I was a sports reporter for the Buchtelite back in those days, and even then we were pushing for a stadium on campus. It has taken 40 yrs., but it will happen next year.I do feel sentimental though about the RB. I have seen so many footbal games there, ranging from peewee games to pro games. Soccer matches played there when the great Stu Parry was the coach at Akron. And a host of concerts. It has been a great place, but her time is past. I will be uncorking a bottle of champagne after the game to toast her closing. Quote
ZippyTuba11 Posted November 13, 2008 Report Posted November 13, 2008 Charlie Frye on the new stadium:''Coach Brookhart has always been a great recruiter. This will be just another tool in his toolbox. This will be like a sledgehammer for him,'' Frye said.''I don't think the Big Ten is going to be happy. Akron is going to be stealing some of their guys. It's going to be big time.'' Quote
Zipsrifle Posted November 13, 2008 Report Posted November 13, 2008 Folks, the next 5-6 games are a very rare opportunity for UofA football. We are almost guaranteed to have huge, if not sell out crowds! Lots of media attention and "Important" people will be in attendance. If there is a time to get people hooked on Akron football, this is it! As fans, lets do our part to make the atmosphere electric today and tonight! Be courteous and classy, lets have a ton of fun and bring home a WIN!!Go Zips! Quote
