RootforRoo44
Well I am considering going down on saturday for the OU game. I know it's a hell of a drive but I've driven further in my life.If anyone has been could you give me some tips on the best route, where to park, where to eat, etc. as I've never been and I am only going down for saturday.I'm leaving Friday afternoon to head down. It's not that bad of a trip actually, I've probably made it a good 10 times in the past 4-5 years. The route i would take would be I-71 south to Columbus then take I-70 east for about 3 miles then US-33 towards Lancaster and take that the rest of the way until the State Street exit and you are there. It's easy and it's the quickest. (as long as you dont hit rush hour traffic in columbus, but seeing as you are going on late friday or saturday i figure, you should be fine).Parking wise, there are a few decks in town that aren't too bad to park, but I've always parked at a friends house or a borrowed a pass to park in a residence lot so I'm not too knowledgeable. Though if you are just coming up day of, there is parking to the west of the stadium in the grass (the tailgating area).Where to eat, now that's a tough one. The place i always like to go to when i'm down there is PitaPit. It's on court street. And if you are looking for a bar to go to, that's where I would head as well. Court St and Union St...anywhere on that block you will find plenty of bars and resturaunts (Red Brick, Skippers, Court St Diner, and Lucky's are great places to eat and/or drink)Hope this helps you, hope to see a lot of you down there as well. Though after 24 hours of pregaming/tailgating I doubt i'll notice if any other Zips fan is there anyways.

skip-zip
I would go down 77 to Marietta, and then over to Athens.

Take the following route and I guarantee you will be there in 2 hours 50 minutes:I-77 South to the "Lower Salem" (Rt 821) exit.Turn right.Follow 821 to dead end at Rt. 60.Turn left.Take Rt. 60 into Marietta (a couple of miles) until you get to the Rt. 7/Washington Street intersection.Turn right.Follow Rt. 7 West about 20 miles until it merges with Rt. 50 West.Take Rt. 50 West all the way to Athens.Your drive time will be 1 hour, 50 minutes to Marietta, then 1 hour from Marietta to Athens. This is BY FAR the best and fastest route.Athens is a gorgeous college town. Enjoy it. I strongly recommend the Steakburger and Fries at "The Pub" on Court Street. Is is located toward the end of the college bar strip, near the corner of Court and State streets. Get a frosty aquarium full of beer for $4.

I've driven both ways, on a Saturday the quickest way is 71.
bUAkronG
lol I was planning on a 4 hour trip. Three hours makes all the difference in the world. How about admission, do we have any at the JAR that I can buy or do I just have to get some GA tickets at the door? I am very excited about this, it will be my first away game(outside of the Can't games).

No worries on selling out, a decent amount of students might show up for them but with the Suckeyes/Michigan game i doubt any alumni or others will be making the trip to athens from the surrounding areas. You will for sure get a good seat and probably a cheap ticket.

A close friend of mine goes to school there and he just came back home this week because OU just finished its Fall Quarter (exams were last week) and they are off until early Januaray, meaning that the vast majority of students have probably already left for break. Stand near the main ticket office until someone comes up to you and offers either free or discounted tickets. Guarantee you will get a deal. The I-71 route is 30 to 45 minutes longer than the Marietta route. I went to OU and have tested both over many years. Plus the Marietta Route is all highway for all but about 10 miles now.

ImAZipFan
Actually this *WOULD* have been the fastest way........ But, over the summer, a new bypass opened up. My folks live down there and they said the by-pass can knock off 5-10 minutes. You have to go into West Virginia down to Parkersburg and take the Rt 50 By-Pass. It goes around Parkersburg and crosses the river at the western end of Blennerhasset Island and resume heading west on Rt 50 to 33. If you are trying to google it, good luck, The bridge opened up in July. We're going that route this year. You save time not having to drive 821 into Marietta.Well I am considering going down on saturday for the OU game. bUAkronG
hmm since it seems not everyone can agree on the best route I may just let google do the directing lolI'm not really concerned on how long it is gonna take to get there. I'd rather take the most simple route. But the weather sounds like it's gonna be wonderful there... Sunny, High of 39 with a 10% chance of snow. Great November football weather!!! OZoner
I'll have to settle for Frenchy's call from his alma mater on Saturday. It looks like the Zips are 2.5 to 3 point favorites. I'd sure like to beat these guys down there. Even if it's only to get under O-Zoner's skin Nah, I'm too numb from the incompetence of these guys. I feel like going is a punishment, honestly.77 is the way to go, even with the Lancaster bypass. Seriously. I've done that drive too many times,

Is he feeling any heat from the OU fans? Obvously a win over the Zips would help his cause, and I'm expecting a very difficult game.

One is turning against him, the other firmly behind. I am in the camp against him. I don't think he's under any real heat this year, but he's going to need to do something next year.
