johnnyzip84
I know we needed a BG win to keep slim hopes alive for MAC East, but I, for one, am glad UB won. We can still possibly go bowling at 7-5, and UB deserves a lot of credit for finishing what has been an incredible climb for them. I also think this is a very positive result for the MAC as a conference. I look forward to a continued rivalry with UB in all sports, and in football in particular. GoZips88
Buffalo deserves to represent the MAC East. Congrats Bulls.French pointed out on the basketball broadcast tonight that the BGSU loss (killing Akron's slim chance of being MAC East champs) is not necessarily a bad thing. BGSU is now 5-6 and MUST beat Toledo AT Toledo next week to become the least bit bowl eligible. Even if BG does find a way to win to go 6-6, they'll still have to wait in line behind us IF we can take care of business and win our final two games. Time to go do what we have to do tomorrow in Athens - GO ZIPS!
RowdyZip
After hi-jacking the rest of the Pitt game basketball thread, let me say I also am happy for the Bulls. They're a solid team in the MAC East. Do I think Akron is on par with them? Abso-friggen-lutely...and I wish more than anything it would be us celebrating the crown TOMORROW evening, but if it has to be someone else in the East, I'd have to root for Buffalo over an underachieving BGSU team. Should be a decent game in the MACC. Let's hope the Zips finish strong and hit that bowl TBD at 7-5 (5-3).
RowdyZip
Oh...plus next week we can watch with joy as Buffalo lays the wood to K-ent, giving them loss number 9 on the season. :screwks: :screwks: :screwks:Edit: And don't forget to root your hearts out for Navy to beat NIU next Tuesday. Being 5th in the MAC pecking order for a bowl gives a LOT better odds than 6th. I'm guessing that any bowl would pick a MAC West team this year over an East team having the same record. MDZip
I'm happy for for the Bulls too. They've been a beat-down team for a long time. NE Ohio fans will understand what that's like (as a matter of fact I'd rate Buffalo #2 as the most tortured sports city in America, behind Cleveland. Philly fans can no longer complain for a few years). Anyway, we may have been fighting karmic convergence this year anyway. I'm sure some people know this story, but for those that don't, the Bulls have been invited to only one bowl game in their history (in 1958). They have never played in one. They had two black players on the team who were not permitted to play in the bowl game so the team turned it down. Here is a terrific link to the story if you're interested:http://sports.espn.go.com/espn/eticket/story?page=buffalo58So EXACTLY 50 seasons later, with a black head head coach and class act like Turner Gill at the helm, the Bulls are going bowling. Congrats to them. The way the stars (Drew Willy, Namaan Roosevelt, James Starks ) were aligned was too much to overcome for us. Time for some small payback for that 1958 team most of whom will get to see the Bulls in a bowl game in their lifetime. But for being so magnanimous in losing in 4 overtimes, our turn comes next year (Drew Willy will be gone plus we'll get to play Miami ).Go Zips

It's certainly another reason to pull for these guys for the rest of this year. I wouldn't be surprised if UB garners quite a bit of well earned attention, given the past and the present converging like this.
Kangaroo Craig
But for being so magnanimous in losing in 4 overtimes, our turn comes next year (Drew Willy will be gone plus we'll get to play Miami ).Go ZipsTurner Gill may also be gone which would be even more devastating to their program. He's a great coach. He'll get a big time job very soon.

MDZip
Bowling Green has actually tied for the lead twice in the last four years but both times have lost on tiebreakers, so that means Akron, OU, BGSU, Miami and Buffalo have all won the East division in the last four years. Temple is a very new member so we'll cut them some slack. So that would leave ...
