KD, on possibly pulling a redshirt: "We're going to try to get Brett McClanahan ready to play and decide in a week." If 's McClanahan redshirt is pulled, is it too late to redshirt Humpty and let McNees and Steward run the point? With Roberts to help as well? Would you even want to entertain the thought? Humpty is struggling on D a bit. He's a freshman, and it is in the first couple games of his 120 game career, so I'm not getting down on the kid. But mathematically, if McClanahan plays, someone on scholarship has to sit. Or am I mistaken?McClanahan would give us some size at the SG position, which we need.

To begin with, it's too late to redshirt anyone who's already played. If they've played a minute, they're not redshirting.I think it's extraordinarily tough to play 5 guards. It's hard enough to find minutes for 4 .. but 5 is another story.

I know there used to be a rule where a player could participate in a few hoops games, then the coach could decide to redshirt him/her. Maybe it was changed? I tried to read the most-recent NCAA eligibility rules and it appears you are correct -- If a player gets injured within the first 20% of the games played in a given season, he can redshirt via medical/hardship. That seems to be the only "out." Was Humpty limping in the 2nd half yesterday? ;) The only other possible exception could be the fact that the games played thus far were "tournament" games. Sometimes preseason tourneys count differently than regular season games as far as eligibility is concerned.

This makes me want to ask about somebody else too...I saw in the box score (I think it was the Canisius game) that Sullivan played the last minute of the game, and missed a 3-pointer. I though for sure he'd get redshirted, but obviously that can't happen now. This looks like there are too many people on the active roster. And..there are going to be too many players all graduating the same year if none of them redshirt. This could be a problem.

A new high for even you, skip-zip .. complaining about having TOO MUCH talent on the roster? Are you serious? Why must you continuously look for problems where none exist?Sullivan did not play against Canisius. He has not seen any action.Take a minute to examine the roster again and look at what year people are:Class of 2009: 1 Senior (Linhart)Class of 2010: 2 Seniors (CMcKnight, Conyers)Class of 2011: 4 Seniors (Bardo, BMcKnight, McNees, Roberts)Class 0f 2012: 4 Seniors (Cvetinovic, Hitchens, Steward, Swiech)Class of 2013: 4 Seniors (Zeke, Parrish, Sullivan, McClanahan)This assumes that McClanahan remains redshirted and that both Roberts and Conyers regain year 4 on the court.Even if they don't, there's no log-jam in recruiting. KD is set up nicely for 3 or 4 scholies per year. This is a good use of the redshirts to even things out. Go Zips!

Humpty has to get used to the fact that he cant steal the ball from his opponent every time they put it on the deck. in HS he simply was too quick for opposing guards, and now he is being forced to have to learn to play D with his feet. He's fouling at an alarming rate and that wont/cant continue. Also on O he's got to earn more minutes and get away from that "short leash, dont make any mistakes" feeling before he'll start driving to the basket and stop jacking up nothing but 3's. when he penetrates, he creates, but i think he's been a little tentative to try to make too much happen and is experiencing freshman jitters. too excited, too pumped up, not comfortable yet. it'll come. Love the breakdown of the number of recruits per class. KD recruits great for the MAC conference and a constent blend of seniors/incoming freshman will provide stability for the program in future years.
