Dave in Green Posted February 19, 2009 Report Posted February 19, 2009 Someone mentioned in the NIU thread that the referee named Crawford was making especially bad calls against the Zips. I got his full name (Eugene Crawford Jr.) from the box score and did a search. That's when I came upon http://www.StatSheet.com . Wow! What a wealth of information on sports. If you click on College Basketball, then Referees, then enter the name of the ref in the search, you can find out a lot about how each ref calls games. There are two refs listed with the same name -- Eugene Crawford Jr. One has done a lot of major games -- Big Ten, ACC, etc. Unfortunately, the one we drew was only officiating his 3rd game of the season, and this is his first season officiating college level games. It was the first college conference game he ever officiated! Here's the link directly to Mr. Crawford: http://statsheet.com/mcb/referees/2-eugene-crawford-jr-So everyone feel free to bookmark this site as a future reference to check out the records of the refs who often make the difference between winning and losing. Zip Watcher Posted February 19, 2009 Report Posted February 19, 2009 Statsheet.com rocks. It's where we go everytime there's a dispute about Brian Wood's Assist:Turnover ratio in 2001-02. Quote
skip-zip Posted February 19, 2009 Report Posted February 19, 2009 Interesting.Personally, after 30 years of watching Zips basketball, and much more than that being involved in basketball in one capacity of another, I am now just sitting back and shaking my head at calls, rather than yelling myself hoarse. I've chosen to take the viewpoint that MAC refs are bad, and they'll make enough bad calls both ways over time. So, over the long haul, I really don't believe it makes any difference. Quote
johnnyzip84 Posted February 19, 2009 Report Posted February 19, 2009 I stumbled upon the same site a little while back. It is pretty amazing.Statsheet Link Near Bottom of Page Quote
ZachTheZip Posted February 19, 2009 Report Posted February 19, 2009 The guy's averaging 38.7 fouls called per game! That's insane. Quote

No wonder he was so bad, it's good to know that the MAC hires experienced referees. Quote
Z.I.P. Posted February 19, 2009 Report Posted February 19, 2009 That's a great website indeed! I found that my favorite ref to hate -- Tim Higgins leads the NCAA this season with 18 techs called. I wouldn't be surprised if he holds the all-time NCAA record. I once saw him call four (4) techs on the coach from San Jose State. (for the record, two and you're out of the game!) Quote
RACER Posted February 20, 2009 Report Posted February 20, 2009 the biggest question i have is? is thier any chance this guy could ref the mac tourney? what recourse do kd have to make sure this guy does not ref any more of our games.the biggest issue with the foul differential is who we were playing.you tell me a terrible niu team gets 31 more foul calls.if could see if this was a top mac team like buffalo ect on the roadbut when a team niu does this then things do not look good.
