RootforRoo44
We really shouldn't say a program sucks, especially since we lost to them 41-24.two seasons ago...and they lost multiple times to the MAC last year. They are the joke of the big ten.Two seasons ago.Try last seasonL 09-20-2008 20 Ball St. (IN) 42 Bloomington, INL 11-01-2008 34 Central Michigan 37 Bloomington, IN two seasons ago, as in the Zips lost to them two seasons ago. RootforRoo44
I think everyone is forgetting the biggest joke in the Big Ten is a team from Columbus...i don't recall the name of the schoolThat joke of team in Columbus is lifetime 24-1 Vs the MAC and lone loss was to Akron in 1894. You can't really count that as the MAC was not created and of course because of that Akron was not a part of it yet.
skip-zip
One thing I don't see getting mentioned here..The lowering of scholarships a few years ago from 95 to 80 players is what's making the difference here. There was a really nice article months ago (not sure if I can find it now) about how well the MAC is doing against the Big 10 (or Big 11) recently. Not only in wins, but simply in much more competitive contests than what we might have seen in the past. Many, many good players are slipping down the line to MAC-level schools becuase of the limitations. How far will the gap close? I don't think anyone knows right now...but it's certainly closing. And before anyone goes and sings on rooftops about Suckeye State's dominance over the MAC, please take a look at more recent contests such as Akron and OU's games against them the past two years.....games that stayed tediously close for the Nutheads well into the 2nd half. Do you think this would have happened 20 years ago? The gap is closing folks.
Dr Z
It might be a tad easier to recruit in the Big Ten (+ PSU) than the MAC. I'm not sure though. I'm going to check a few stats and get back to you. I'll have to check to see how much money Purdue and Indiana put into their program compared to BG and Ken+. Plus, it's sooo hard to get defensive lineman in the MAC you have to play with only three.
GP1
I always like the Big Ten vs. MAC debate. I guess for me it comes down to the following questions and answers. Is the BT getting worse? The answer is yes.Is the MAC getting worse? The answer is yes. Both conferences are not nearly as good as they were even five years ago.The final question is important. Which conference is getting worse faster? IMHO, the MAC is getting worse at a far faster rate than the Big Ten is getting worse. In any case, one if these two conferences is just plain bad and getting worse. The other conference is just horrible and while hard to believe, getting worse. You can decide which of these adjectives fits which conference. skip-zip
It's my recollection that the MAC moved UP several spots in conference RPI last season.
