RootforRoo44
6 point lead with under 3 min left Could be more but Chris McKnight is 4-60 on the year from the free throw line in the final 10 minutes of games.

Besides, I saw enough bricked dunks in the NBA All Star Game.

Dave in Green
Sorry for being late, but I had a commitment I couldn't ditch. Finally jumped in the car and turned on the radio just in time to hear Buffalo blow the layup with 7 seconds left. I was screaming in the car!A truly amazing night with Buffalo, Miami and Can't all losing. Zips are tied for the conference lead with Buffalo and BG. Now we just have to protect the home court! Anyone know the second tiebreaker if it came down to it?BTW, 18-10 with 3 regular season games left. 20 wins sure looks reachable.
RowdyZip
Men’s Basketball Tiebreaker ProcedureThe following tiebreaker procedure will apply to all sports, unless noted otherwise within the individual sport operating codes/championship guidelines. All ties will be broken in the order in which they occur, from top to bottom, in the standings. When comparing tied teams against positions lower in the standings, which are also tied, those lower-tied positions will be considered as a single position for purposes of comparison. (Example: Team A and Team B, who tied for second place, would compare against Team X and Team Y who tied for 6th as follows: Team A would compare its combined record against both X and Y against Team B’s combined record against both X and Y.) 1. Head-to-head competition2. Winning percentage* vs. ranked conference teams (top to bottom, regardless of division; versus common opponents, regardless of the number of times played)3. Sport specific component (if applicable)4. Coin flip* Winning percentage is used instead of record because of situations where teams do not play each other the same number of times. Therefore, a team that is 1-0 (1.000) would win the tiebreaker over a team that is 1-1 (.500).

Dave in Green
OK, let me state it slightly differently: The Zips are in a 3-way tie for best record in the MAC, with tie-breakers to be applied at the end of the season if there's still a tie. Bad comparison, I know. I think we all realize that this team has a LOT more going for it then the football team ever had.
johnnyzip84
I was limited to following this on ESPN's ticker from the bar of an Old Chicago restaurant in Evansville, Indiana, but I didn'tlet that stop me from shouting a triumphant "yes" every time I saw the updated score with the Zips in the lead. After having seen that BG had beaten Can't, this was certaily welcome news. Then seeing OU blowing out Miami (not that I feel anything for the Bongcats) was the icing on the cake. Let's go Zips!!!! Let's go Zips!!
MDZip
After we beat Bowling Green we want them to do as well as possible. Since the first tiebreaker of head to head with Buffalo is even, the next tiebreaker will be teams in order. Big if, but if we end up tied with the Bulls and BGSU ends up in third alone, we'd win the tiebreaker no matter whate happens against BG on Sunday (of course they'd then be a game up on us and then we'd have a whole separate set of problems). Anyway, I think it boils down to this - if win the rest of our games, we'd almost certainly be assured of a number one seed regardless of what anybody else does (including Buffalo). BGSU is the only other one that can make that claim so Sunday's game is pretty big. If we win the rest of them, the only way to knock us out would be for Miami to end up alone in third with us and Buffalo tied for first. With Can't and BGSU still in the mix that just doesn't seem very likely.
w00t
This may sound silly, but do we really want the top seed? The reward for getting the top seed is a semifinal matchup against the fourth-seeded team that will doubtless come from the east. If we finish second in the east we'll get the third seed and very likely have a road to the championship game that involves two matchups with teams from the west. What's more important, the pride of being the top seed, or the promise of eating two cupcakes before playing for a trip to the dance?*Edit: After looking at the standings more closely, it doesn't really matter, there is almost no way that we could play a quarterfinal and semifinal game against teams from the west. Let's just not lose anymore games against MAC opponents this year. *
ZachTheZip
A top seed guarantees post-season play in the form of an auto-bid to the NIT. It's the only guarantee we can have in this conference, unless we win the MAC tournament.
skip-zip
uakronkid is correct. The #1 seed is actually "declared" the regular season MAC champ, and earns an automatic bid to the NIT. It will be nice this year to have that in your back pocket before the MAC tournament even starts since it looks unlikely that any MAC team will have a good enough record/SOS combination to get an at-large bid to the NIT.As far as the MAC tournament goes, being the #1 seed probably gives you no advantage this year in terms of your semifinal game, since that #4 seed will almost surely be another top East div. team. But, getting to play the #8 seed in the quarterfinals could prove to be an advantage. Personally, I liked that #3 position that we were in last year since we got to play the #2 West champ in the semis. This year's #3 seed will have the same advantage. It might be time for the league to reconsider giving the top two seeds to the div. champs. I am still going to stay away from looking at any tie breakers. A LOT is going to happen in these last couple of weeks. With Buffalo's recent decline, and OUs win over Miami last night, only TWO games separate the group of teams that will get the 1,3,4,5,6, and 7 seeds. Will OU make a run now after a big blowout win against Miami? Is Buffalo in a complete free fall? (their inability to make baskets has been their nemesis for quite a few games now)Who gets to play the "bad BG" or the "good BG" on any given night?Did Can't just squander the advantage they gained by going 6-0 against the West?Is Miami just too depleted of talent this year, and it's starting to show? Will Can't still possibly benefit from lucky scheduling by having that season-closing game at home against the Zips?As I've said previously, the MAC is really looking bad, but I still think it will be a major accomplishment if we can win this league in a rebuilding year. And if that happens, Keith should surely get Coach of the Year.
Quickzips
Will OU make a run now after a big blowout win against Miami?Doubtful, if it weren't for the utter collapse of Buffalo the big story in the MAC would be just what the hell is wrong with Miami? It's a rivalry game for OU as well. Everything was primed for OU to have a big game against the Redhawks. I don't think it means that they are now a legit contender for the MACC.Is Buffalo in a complete free fall? (their inability to make baskets has been their nemesis for quite a few games now)All indications are a big fat YES on this one. You don't struggle against the West cupcakes, then go 0-4 going into the last week of the regular season and feel like you are in a good position to win the conference. I've felt all season like Buffalo was vastly overachieving, and I think at this point that is starting to become obvious. They aren't dead and buried yet, but they are fitted for the coffin.Who gets to play the "bad BG" or the "good BG" on any given night?BG is the team I am least looking forward to playing. They have as much talent as anyone in the East and when they put it all together on a given night, watch out. We've had some good luck against them the last few years though, and I'm hoping for that to continue. I would love nothing more than to give them a good drubbing on Sunday and then watch them win out down the stretch though.Did Can't just squander the advantage they gained by going 6-0 against the West?Possibly. Can't as much as anyone else was rolling and in control of their own destiny going into last night. Now they need some help. They are still not out of it yet. Not by a long shot. But they have a much tougher road after last night. Is Miami just too depleted of talent this year, and it's starting to show? The loss of Kenny Hayes is the biggest problem for Miami right now. They have noone who can trigger that offense. Teams are keying in on Bramos and daring the rest of the team to make a play. More often than not they are failing to do so. Also, their trademark defense has gone MIA all of a sudden. That team is going to give Charlie Coles another coronary pretty soon here. Will Can't still possibly benefit from lucky scheduling by having that season-closing game at home against the Zips?It depends on what happens over the next two games. Really still too early to tell at this point.
ZippyTuba11
Plain Dealer articleThe Bulls then forced a turnover on Akron's inbounds play with 59 seconds left. But moments later, UB's Max Boudreau was called for a moving screen, giving the ball back to Akron with 35.7 seconds to play. Through it all, the Zips -- the most veteran team in the MAC -- never got rattled. "We thought we had a nice isolation off a designed play, but I better leave that one alone," Buffalo coach Reggie Witherspoon said. The Zips, the bulk of whom have played in numerous big games the past two seasons, including two MAC Tournament finals and in the NIT, ran the clock down until UB fouled guard Anthony Hitchens (10 points). His two free throws effectively sealed the game.Is this author full of crap or is the rest of the conference less experienced than Akron is with 7 freshmen?
