Hi everyone. Please take the time to drop WKNR a short email to say "Thanks" and let them know we appreciate all the attention given to the Zips and the MAC Tournament. I know the new owner, Craig Karmazin, he is taking a very pro-active approach to running things and he takes listener comments very seriously. It only takes 10 seconds, but showing that people out there care about Akron Basketball truly makes a difference in getting more and more coverage for the Zips.WKNR Email List:President/CEOCraig Karmazin ckarmazin@espncleveland.comGeneral ManagerKeith Williams kwilliams@espncleveland.comStation Manager/Sales InformationSam Pines spines@gkbradio.comAssistant Program DirectorAaron Goldhammer agoldhammer@gkbradio.comPromotions DirectorJason Gibbs jgibbs@espncleveland.comProduction DirectorSteve Dole sdole@espncleveland.comOn-Air TalentMark "Munch" Bishop munch@espncleveland.comGreg Brinda gbrinda@espncleveland.comMichael Reghi - KNR Overtime Show wineandgold@espncleveland.comTony Rizzo rizzo@espncleveland.comKenny Roda roadman@espncleveland.comDaryl Ruiter druiter@espncleveland.comJordan Sherwood jsherwood@gkbradio.com

What am I writing to thank them for?For the 5 minutes of coverage we got this week? Big wup!!!All the local hacks are idiots, not to mention a bunch of buckeye losers....I tune in Cleveland sports talk to hear about the Cleveland teams, not the team for c-bus.But then again, when you haven't won a championship in Cleveland in over 120 sports seasons, I guess you need to hang your hat on someone.

This, the best week in recent memory for UA and you have to be negative? WKNR covered every single freaking game of the tournament , so I'm sorry but your "5 minutes of coverage" comment is just way off base. And if you're tuning in to only listen to Cleveland sports I feel sorry for you lol. Seriously. The station gave Akron and the MAC a ton of attention, way way way more that the Buckeyes received. As fans we can do very little to influence how the games go for our team. But when it comes to helping to grow the fan base, there IS something you can do. And that is to respond favorably when we do get the media attention we deserve. To adopt the "The media hates us" routine is just defeatest, classic northeast Ohio defeatism that I will not be a part of.Anyhow, I'm not hating on ya ZipsWin, hope to see ya at the party tomorrow.

That's part of my point. WKNR had a contract to air the tournament. Our "coverage" basically consisted of hearing the games and becuase we played in four of them, we had a little extra.I listened to those hacks during their shows and as I said, UA got about 5 minutes of run....And most of that talk was in comparison to CSU... I hope to miss the party as I will be in Portland.

Personally I don't understand that everyone is so angsty about. The media are a nothing but a bunch of front-running blurb-misers.The big dogs do it (most of the time just yanking their blurbs off the AP), and the little guys only want to be just like the big dogs."Local Programming" is too much like work when you can just act as a conduit for the networks and the syndication. It's all about taking the path of least resistance.Don't waste your time buying into the hype when these media outlets portray themselves as 'local', 'caring', and in-touch.They are nothing but content re-packagers. Ad space is king.I just want those kids to enjoy their time to shine and do something they can be proud of.I don't care who is tooting their horns. I'm not expecting anyone to carry our water.Let's just enjoy the ride

i fall in the middle on this. wknr always does a great job on the tournament but that is the only time of the year you'll hear about akron or the mac. about a week before the tournament began i ran into "munch" and asked why they don't cover the zips? he responded with next week they'll start to cover them. i then asked the question....yeah because you are contracted to do so....why don't you talk about the zips or the mac outside of the tournament? he had no response. i really hope wknr or wknr 2 steps up its coverage of akron sports or the mac in general. :screwks:

Agreed. I think it has much to do with the perception that not enough people care enough about the MAC or the local teams like Akron. That's why, as fans, we can actually make a differece by working to change that perception.

So awesome that you'll be in Portland!!Okay, something to consider, WKNR wasn't forced at gunpoint to sign a contract for the MAC Tourney. They did so for business reasons. So that could mean that A. they thought a lot of people would tune in, or B. that they are trying to grow the audience for this event. Either way, as Zips fans, we win.

Today I wll give WKNR some credit. At 3:25 PM they had a legitimate interview with KD about the team..not the LBJ stuff. Thanks to both KD and WKNR.
Could you give us a recap of the interview?
