zipseuph Posted March 18, 2009 Report Posted March 18, 2009 I was looking around the net today and I found this neat article of famus alumni from all 65 school check it outhttp://www.fanhouse.com/news/ncaa-tourname...nt-teams/386694p.sAkron is the last school on the list Quote
Zip Watcher Posted March 18, 2009 Report Posted March 18, 2009 Wow .. didn't know those guys were UA alumns.I would have put money on comedian George Wallace being the guy for Akron in something like this. Quote
meatwad Posted March 18, 2009 Report Posted March 18, 2009 Siena got hosed. They only got a fictional charter to be their "famous alumni." Can they be famous if they are not real? Quote
Blue & Gold Posted March 18, 2009 Report Posted March 18, 2009 Well that's amazing! I felt Purdue shamed most schools on the list by having 2 moon-walking astronauts while most other schools have B-list actors as their famous alums. But then we finally scroll down to Akron and... 2 moon-walking astronauts! Wow. That is a terrific accomplishment, but does it qualify as "famous" since we seem to be surprised by their inclusion? zip81 Posted March 18, 2009 Report Posted March 18, 2009 I couldn't imagine sharing a table and pitcher of 3.2 beer with these guys in the Chuckery...so I did a little research...Alan Bean only received an honorary doctorate from UA. He actually studied at the Carnegie Institute and MIT.BioSame for Ed Mitchell...honorary. He went to Carnegie MellonBioSo, these two boys never actually walked the Hilltop.Should have stuck with the comedian! Quote

They should have just gone with the classic for us - Jason Taylor. Even non-football fans should know him from "Dancing with (I just can't finish that ). Quote

scottditzen Posted March 18, 2009 Report Posted March 18, 2009 It is a bizarre fact, but outside of our sports, there are no famous Akron grads. Who wants to be the first?I couldn't imagine sharing a table and pitcher of 3.2 beer with these guys in the Chuckery...so I did a little research...Alan Bean only received an honorary doctorate from UA. zip81 Posted March 18, 2009 Report Posted March 18, 2009 Even Rita Dove, the poet laureate of the United States, who is from Akron, went to Miami!linky Quote

Zip N' Dots Posted March 18, 2009 Report Posted March 18, 2009 Well we could of had Florida States Representative on the list........Richard Simmons Quote
you am i Posted March 18, 2009 Report Posted March 18, 2009 He died back in 1981 so he has been somewhat forgotten, but Ray Bliss (as in UA's Bliss Institute of Applied Politics) was a major figure in the Republican Party in the 1960s and was well known nationally at that time. He was the national chairman of the Republican Party from 1965-1969. I always thought that he was the UA grad who made the biggest name for himself nationally, outside of athletics. Quote
