Still coming down from a great experience in Portland. Great entertainment area, with some decent night life. Found a few good bars. People in from all over the country. Even got some cheers while wearing the Zips logo for the teams effort. Heard enough questions about what a Zip is though. How many city's have free mass transportation like Portland does with their trains and street cars? Cool place. I moved up to Seattle Friday night, but I should have stayed in Portland. I think the program is headed in the right direction, and I look forward for more regular visits to the Field of 64. Now, lets get ready for Zips football.

It was nice seeing you there Geno. The Portland experience was very cool. Jakes Crawfish and the light rail were the highlights for me, other than the game. Not too often you see a 6'4" guy in a leather kilt and a pirate shirt in NE Ohio. If I had known, you could have joined Dave and I at McCormick & Schmicks in Seattle friday night. I had a blast with the whole trip. See you at the Info.

Portland was nice, but not my kind of city though. Although, I don't really know what my kind of city is. One thing I will say about Portland is that I was surprised at how much trash there was lying around on the sides of the highway. For being Hippie Capital USA, I was shocked at how dirty it was.I will however say that Stanford's Bar and Grill makes the most amazing Turkey Dip Sandwich. We went twice so I could enjoy it one more time. The place is only in Washington/Oregon though. Shame.

Portland is definitely an industrial city with the big shipping port and the concrete plant right next to the arena. Anyone from the Cleveland or Pittsburgh areas would have seen a lot of familiar sights, along with some really eccentric-looking folks. Some of the "dirty" appearance may be from industry, but some is from the constant high humidity that promotes the growth of lots of green fuzz on everything, including the concrete barriers on the highways. One of the things that impressed me was the massive amount of construction and renovation on virtually every block downtown. If you work in the construction business, Portland is not a bad place to be. Lots of buildings are being built or renovated for condos or apartments, so it appears as if more people want to live downtown instead of commuting. Longterm, this should keep the downtown area alive and growing, unlike many other big cities.

Always intriguing to hear comments from "outsiders" about the town I have spent more time than any besides Akron/Honolulu. I spent 3-6 months in PDX each year from 1998-2004. It wasn't till the back side of my time there that the green building and design revolution set into motion there a decade earlier actually began paying off in jobs creation in the city itself. It may well take a decade for the national economic transformation to a low-carbon economy to pay off as well, but Portland will always serve a good use as a role model for those who wish to become sustainable cities. So, did anyone tune into K-Zoo?
