ZachTheZip
I'm watching the news and they're reporting massive rioting at Can't State, fires in the street, and the cops out in riot gear. Couple dozen students arrested so far, and they're still fighting it out right now.
zip37
Sounds familiar, i.e. the early 70s when the ONG SCORED A VICTORY!

ZachTheZip
I'm willing to bet that out of all the kids arrested tonight, at least 8 were on the basketball team.
RootforRoo44
this is great news....though i wish they would have saved the rubber bullets and just gave them all a few extra whacks with the nightsticks.btw i guess over 120 have been arrested according to what i just heard on the radio. Blue & Gold
Lol. Pathetic! I was listening to WNIR last night and someone called in about this amazingly unintelligent fiasco. The caller said 3 fire departments were called in, both the Summit and Portage County Sheriffs departments, & the Can't PD. The evening host even replied it sounded like the earlier hippies. ksu sucks
The sad thing is that most of the people causing problems are probably from AkronI found this on the Can't bbs board. Really? Just because Akron's bigger party school...

Just because Akron's bigger party school...there probably is some off-campus element that ruins it.I remember when we used to have those huge block parties with nearly 100 kegs around Katherine place. They were great for a few years when everyone from school came and had a great time... and even when things got rowdy and a few fires got started. But in later years people came in and start a lot of shit for the sake of starting shit, and it pretty much all had to end.

A few years ago my wife and I were in Akron for something and there were cops everywhere but nobody else. As we were leaving the city we both remembered it was May Day. Do the police just gear up for practice now or what?
ksu sucks
As we were leaving the city we both remembered it was May Day. Do the police just gear up for practice now or what?Actually, the cops in Akron are pretty idiotic. Instead of focusing on the real crime a few miles south, they direct all their attention to breaking up easy going parties and busting underage drinkers. To be honest, Akron's getting the party scene started up again. With Sumner Fest back(although I heard the cops were all over that) and Mayday, there's plenty of good parties. But the cops need to just cool down. What are they going to do when tailgating starts? Arrest everyone with an open container?Regardless, the new stadium will help revive the parties. ZachTheZip
Some of you remember May Day as being parties that devolved into drunken riots over the years, which is why the cops have the area locked down tight years after the fact. For at least the past four years there really hasn't been anything at all to speak of because the entire Akron PD was swarming the place as some type of "pre-emptive measure". Same at Can't but they are a bit more leniant there. Before the parties there was an official end-of-the-year celebration held by UA. I think that if they went back to that things would be fine. One thing I am hoping for is that by having the stadium downtown it will teach the police how to handle tailgating and large events like the Cleveland PD handles Browns games. Right now they don't really have that experience in an urban setting since tailgaiting was confined to a single field with no real access to anywhere that people could cause trouble.
