Zips Team Shop Gearing Up for 2009-10In order to increase visibility, consistency and variety, The University of Akron Department of Athletics and its Team Shop will have a new partner for the upcoming season. Currently, the Team Shop is in the midst of making the transition, clearing out its old stock in preparation for the new and exciting items becoming available for the upcoming season. The Team Shop will be experiencing dramatic changes in the weeks to come and fans will have unprecedented access to merchandise at InfoCision Stadium, other UA athletics venues, the Team Shop and online. The athletic department appreciates the public’s patience during this transition period as the Team Shop is working diligently to make this a smooth transition. “This new partnership will allow Akron to take a step forward in its day-to-day operations, its gameday abilities and online merchandise,” said UA Director of Athletic Licensing and Merchandise Bryan Huetmann. “I feel we will be fully capable of meeting both the needs and wants of our fans in the coming weeks, months and beyond.”Link

We were pretty tough on them earlier this month for the apparent lack of action on the merchandise front. I now believe that to have been premature if this article is accurate and the action is timely. Good job to the zips athletic management team and keep up the good work. There have been many positive changes to gozips.com including the $25,000 giveaway and mention of preseason events for the general public.

I'm getting the jumptv page as well.I will be keeping an open mind to the changes to the teamshop. I am hoping that they add many new items to their inventory.

I'd disagree with us jumping the gun. It could be we lit the fire under their collective brains and got them to show some urgency. There is a complete lack of communication coming from the whole athletic department. If they don't want to personally give updates, they could leak the information to certain ZN members to inform. I'd help them on that front.

I was trying to repent for harsh criticism on my part. See my walmart trash comment. I agree that they have done little to help their situation with die hard ZN fans but hopefully this is an indicator of future success.

It's hard to please die-hard fans. It's even harder to create them. What this does is create more casual fans thanks to a better experience. Then there's a chance that a few of them become die-hards over time. Akron needs a bigger casual fan base.

We've been complaining about this for YEARS, trust me, our recent comments are not "Jumping the Gun". "It's about time!" is my thought! I guess I'll put it this way, I really, really want to GIVE The University of Akron MY MONEY to advertise FOR THEM. Just give me some decent product so I can do it! I'll glady go directly to Akron to get the stuff too! Hell, my wife had to order some cheap license plate brackets online that say "The University of Akron Alumni" on them because UA didn't have any good ones. I'm pretty sure UofA didn't make any money from those plates either. If this store is as good as they say it will be, I'll be at least a hundred dollars lighter in the wallet on Sept. 12th!

Boy, do I know what you mean, Rifle. I've bought, I think three times, the cheap plastic plate holders from the university. They lasted maybe a month or two before breaking to pieces. And I'm not THAT bad a driver, I swear!
