Dr. Steinbrecher was at WMU yesterday and discussed his plans for the MAC. He had some good points about how last year went and I think he gets what the MAC needs to do to grow as a conference.http://themacdaily.com/index.php?p=1_77
I like this and hope to see MAC success. Most people think we should just get out of the MAC for bigger conferences like the Big East. Maybe, but I think the MAC is starting to change, at least beginning to. It seems that the MAC has been able to gain some attention in recent years, Akron v.s. NCS from the ACC, Toledo v.s. U of M, Akron v.s. 'Cuse just to name a few. The point is, when you win games like these people hear about it, either through the media (ESPN) or just people talking about it. I'm surprised that he didn't mention our soccer program, I would assume the MAC's only #1 nationally ranked team. The task now is consistency, particularly for football and B-Ball (Our other teams seem consistent). For football, winning seasons and upsets, and B-Ball NCAA tournament bids. Easier said than done but I'm really confident about this year.

What about increasing the talent level of basketball and getting more big programs to visit MAC campuses so we can get more than just one school in the big dance every year. The MAC is just a pathetic basketball conference.

Setting a minimum of 6 non-conference basketball home games would help you avoid some of the killer schedules that can hurt good MAC teams, while also providing more potential wins which increases league RPI more than the collective SOS does. You could do the same thing in football, to a lesser degree. Require at least 6 home games every other year, or even every three years. It is a minor change for most schools, but it could bring up the bottom of the league a bit.

The job of the commissioner is not to increase the talent level in the MAC. That is the job of the schools themselves. The only school I would like to see increase their talent level in the MAC is UofA so we can be an even better team. I like being the best team in a bad conference.I'm not sure what the commissioner can do to force big programs to visit MAC campuses (is that even a word?...not sure). Any program with a huge name would require a game in Cleveland.

Yes, and as Craig suggests for bball, these home fball games should be against teams from the power conferences. Let's get the Commish right on this.
