Here's the official info from the UA Alumni Association, guess that answer my initial question. Is the University (and their money) converting Barley house from there Cowlumbus loving ways?http://www.facebook.com/event.php?eid=136145974784Come watch your Akron Zips as they take on the Penn State Nittany Lions in the first game of the season this Saturday September 5, 2009 with a noon kick-off at The Barley House in downtown Akron. The game will be televised on the Big Ten Network.A DJ, giveaways and halftime contest are planned. Don’t forget to wear your Zips gear. The Barley House is the Official Watch Party location and Post Game Party Headquarters for Akron Zips Football. And always remember Go Zips!
Don't expect too much at the Barley House. The Luckeyes also kick-off at noon. Expect a sea of silver and red.

Those of you going to the Barley House, make damned sure you cheer and let everybody there know who you are cheering for. Ignore the other game, maybe give them funny looks when they're cheering for something.

Barley House for three of us I guess. Not sure how long I'll be able to stomach the Ohio A&M fans. Will definitely be prepared to head back home and finish watching it there.

Well this sucks. No way can I give BH the benefit of the doubt on this one. Campus cable has the B10 network so I'll be watching from home, thanks.
Well...let me push your buttons a little bit here...the Alumni Association made it their official watch party location, so why not give them a chance? They've made several "Zip friendly" improvements in the last few weeks, including a stadium shuttle bus and several Zips banners (no OSU ones that I could see). And one last thing: In what world does it work to convince an establishment that your team is worthy of their attention by staying home? I say we make it the "Unofficial" Zipsnation watch party location as well. Show up en mass and decked out in blue and gold. ZN should have no problems outnumbering a few suckeye fans.

sorry guys, I've had no luck with BH and since I don't plan on drinking during the game(I'll be going home later that night), I see no need to go to the bar and risk temptation.

I haven't had the chance to get to OBC in a couple of months, but let me express my annoyance with the Verich's. Last season they made a mildy big deal of being Zips GameDay Central (my term) with watch parties, the Zips on the tube most games and at least some of the time, their staff wearing Zips flair on game days. Now, anybody who has followed OBC knows that they tend to be flakey in little ways that become annoying. The food service is sometimes great, sometimes terrible, never predictable. It's hard to ever guess what beers will be on tap, and there have been times when inexplicably they would be completely out of one (or more) of their regular beers on tap. Nothing huge, and I love the beers they brew, but there seems to be a constant sense of unpredictability, an almost A-D-D quality to the place that is sometimes endearing, sometimes aggravating. Now, here we are at week one of a new Zips football season, with the university foot print creeping right up to their door, and nobody there considered what it might take to get the Zips on their flat-screen TVs? I kinda want to say "WTF" and not feel so bad about wandering to the Barley House to watch the game, even though the Barley House has become a quintessentially shitty college-kid scream-fest bar. Why can't OBC ever seem to consistently get things like this right? How much could it possibly cost them to subscribe to some TV service package that would include the Big Ten Network for crying out loud? I would bet they would make that amount back by the end of Saturday's game from us, the beer-guzzling Zips fans. GO ZIPS!STZ

I haven't asked them about gameday yet, but I know that the Scotchers in the Valley has Zips jerseys, signs, clocks and other decor all over the place.... even roo brew posters over the urinals. LOL. I suspect that they will have the game on.

the way I see it we almost need to show up and take over the BH. remember that OBC staff had on OSWHO stuff until we came in and took that place over. we have to outnumber the suckeyes fans and let them know where they are

From what I have been told by Athletics is that ISP - Akron Athletics signed a contract with Barley House and part of the deal was to have them be the official watch party location. T-shirts were purchased for the staff and everything. Alumni sent the e-mail out in support of the decision by Athletics.

I'm sure the BH had to notice our strong showings at OBC for the NCAA selection show and tourney game. That had to make it easier to cough up the cash to be the official watch party location. Plus, they might want to better position themselves for Info traffic before and after games.

As much as i hate to say it I will be at the Barley House to watch the game. Screw the buckeyes though, i'm rooting for the Zips and i'm going to make sure i bring alot of people with me to drown out the Cowlumbus fans. However i will be at the OBC prior to and following the Zips win. Ah, now i dont feel so bad.

Well I've never been to BH on a gameday so perhaps I will give them the benefit of the doubt and head up there. Hell, at least they are trying.Damn you ZNO! You talked me into it!

I'm happy to see lots of folks are heading up there. Tell all your friends where to be, and most importantly, what to wear. I'll be showing up at 11am (when BH opens) with about a half-dozen other Blue and Gold clad fans. This is our city and our team, let's take it over from the Lemmings!Inspirational speech over.

You guys cant even talk about where you will watch a game without crying and moaning about OSU. You guys are like a bunch of pathetic children. I really do feel for you. You remind me of the democrats trying to push this healthcare bill. F what the people want. We know what is better for you. It is my way or the highway!! Just freaking show up and cheer for the damn Zips. Who gives a toss if they have a tv or 2 with the OSU game on and there are some OSU fans there. This is a free country last time I checked and a business has to cater to their crowd. Whats next....are you going to have bouncers outside that ask which game you are watching before you are allowed in?You can't bully people into liking what you like. Lets just hope Akron does well tomorrow and the rest of the season. That will be the only thing that accomplishes what we all want and that is a larger, more loyal fanbase, lots of wins and bowl games!

Hey! Thanks for being a jacka$$. I was merely stating that I wanted Zips fans to outnumber Suckeye fans at the Barley House, as was everyone else. I want to go to an Akron establishment and hear the audio from my team's game and see it on the majority of the screens. What's the best way to do that? Check my earlier post: SHOW UP. Heck, I wouldn't mind seeing OSU on a couple screens so I can root against them. And if you don't like me, and others, openly rooting against another team from Ohio on Zipsnation, feel free to leave and not chime up with your insulting little rant. GO ZIPS and GO MIDSHIPMEN!

When the biggest bar right next to campus is filled with people rooting for another team, we're going to complain, and then we're going to do something about it. It just happens that that other team is OSU.

How about heeding your own advice, Mayor of Simpleton. I'm not sure who is the bigger attention whore, you or jupiter2.
