Reprogram After Day One

On the first day/nite of the 2009 college football season, there are already some surprises in the MAC -- most notably Bowling Green looking like they haven't lost much -- if anything -- from last season. They knock off a good Troy team 31-14 at home. Looking at that one, I now feel it'll be easier for Akron to win @ Buffalo than @BeeGee, the reverse of what I WAS thinking, especially with Stark gone for UB.Second surprise: Ball State is even worse than I suspected, getting knocked up late in the game at home against NTSU. Lean Green lead 10-3 in fourth. After this display, I have to move BGSU into the 3-way tie for 1st with Akron and Temple (which is just holding on against mighty Villanova for the Cosby Cup), and Buffalo slips to fourth. And in the West, I've moved Eastern up to fifth place. It looks like a long season in Lettermanville.

Villanova is a pretty good FCS team but if Temple was a serious contender, no way do they lose to them. I'd say it could be a battle between OU, BUGS and us. Interested to see how the rest of the teams fare this weekend. I think Western knocks off Big Blue at the Big House.

Another update: Indiana barely holding off the mighty Kernels of Eastern Kentuck, 19-13 with under 10:00 to play. I'll pencil the 9/19 game in as UA win #7. Power rating: Akron/BeeGee East co-#1.I haven't mentioned it, but watch out for Toledo as the dark horse in the West.

I'll second that. Toledo is notorious for quick turnarounds under 1st year coaches, and I like what I've read about Beckman.

So we have BGSU coming from 14 down and dominating the 4th quarter to win, Temple crumbling badly, Ball State continuing their losing streak against North Texas, and Can't State beating up on defenseless animals (and feeling proud of themselves for it). I'd say our chances of going undefeated at home are VERY realistic this year. Indiana could barely hold on against FCS Eastern Kentucky, needing a couple last minute pass breakups to stop the upset. Unless we're actually much worse than I think we are this year, I see no reason JD shouldn't be expected to defend home field with a passion. Winning traditions start now!

Surprise it is. It's shocking. This is the first time in history a football team has become pregnant.
This was really funny and deserves to be moved to the top of the page.

I bet the Mean Green don't even send them a check.

Check? They left the money on the dresser.

I'm watching Buffalo against UTEP from the Sun Bowl, and at the moment the Bulls are up 16-7. There's still plenty of time to go, but from what I've seen Maynard looks decent and the UB backs aren't doing bad either. I'd say there's no evidence to count them out in the silly MAC East a this point. In fact, I'd say anyone but Miami could win the MAC East this year, based on what I've seen this first week.
