BostonZip
Did you know this was:+ The Zips’ first shutout since the 1992 season (W, 13-0 at Ohio University, 10/3/92)+ Akron’s first shutout victory at home since 1989 (W, 31-0 vs. Cincinnati, 10/28/89)+ Its first shutout victory on a home opener since 1986 (W, 35-0 vs. Salem College, 9/6/86 [Coach Gerry Faust's debut, if I recall]).This and much more here. Zip22
- First game on campus where "fans" do what they always do and leave early in bunches.Wow, way to be a downer. FYI, it's not exactly a phenomenon unique to Akron. If a team goes up 41-0, people leave. It happens here, it happens in the majors, and *GASP* it even happens down in Columbus. tbozeglav
- First game on campus where "fans" do what they always do and leave early in bunches. You know... I don't care that much if GA peope leave early. It's the students I'd rather see in the stands for the whole game. It's not like they have far to go to get home. GP1
- First game on campus where "fans" do what they always do and leave early in bunches.I don't have a problem with people leaving early. The game was a blow out. It happens everywhere.
Blue & Gold
I didn't have a problem with it either. I didn't leave. I stayed late and basked in the afterglow of a perfect day. But the game was reeeeeally out of hand. Also, I noticed the crowd wasn't making any noise @ all on 3rd downs. I was stomping on the aluminum bleachers, but I was the only person in my proximity trying to raise the roof for the D on 3rd down. I'll also chalk that up to the game's outcome never being in doubt. But I hope the Info is ROCKING for our D on 3rd next week versus Indy!

Well, I may be obnoxious, you know I'm loud, and I'm sure I wasn't the most sober guy in the stadium, but at least I know how to make noise on a third friggin down! But I hope the Info is ROCKING for our D on 3rd next week versus Indy!We had considered leaving with about 4:50 left, and then figured it would actually be easier to get out if waited until everyone left. That's just the way things are in the real world. If it was a nail biter like say Buffalo last year, then you bet your sweet @$$ everyone would have been there. My favorite new thing, is that the fans can bring the "thunder" (got to love the steel upperdeck) listening to it roll and build up to something incredibly loud was awesome (and apparently aggrivating for poor Carlton Jackson)
ZippyTuba11
In a blowout, people leave. It happens in the big schools. Only with the big schools, when 30-40 thousand leave, you still have 60-70 thousand still in the stands. Here's something for the defense to be fired up about going into Indiana. No one opposing team has ever scored in our stadium. Lets get the D to continue the tradition through next week!
Spin
First game on campus where "fans" do what they always do and leave early in bunches. That never bothered me, as it makes it easier to get to my car, and easier to get my car on the highway!!! I noticed the east stands started emptying out long before the west stands did. It wasn't hot but the sun was pretty strong all game. That and the game being a blowout caused a lot of people to leave. Not to mention a number of students who were drunk beyond walking and were helped out of there. If you cant sit through an entire football game especially when it's the FIRST ONE at a new stadium then that's just lame. Not to mention it was an exciting game, who doesnt love when the home team throttles the visitor? I will agree with whoever said some people weren't very loud as well. However i'm not too worried there, as i think the people who come back for that second and third game will be more inclined to join in the cheering.
