I did not watch the game yesterday, but what I am reading 2 QB's was used. Is this their plan for this season, or Morgan State was the "test" game to see if it would work? Also I know that 41-0 is a beat down of any kind, but did Deryn "King Koopa" Bowser (Yes I am calling hm that now) have his coming out party?

Rogers got to run two series I think. One in the first, and one in the second. Jacq ran most of the show, until the third string went in by the end of the game.Rodgers did have an amazing scramble, that should have been a TD. It looked to me like the ball hit the pylon (may have just been my angle though). We still scored on the next play, so I won't complain too much.JD played both QBs against Penn St too. As far as I know, JD plans to continue to do this.

The ball did hit the pylon, which would have made it a touchdown if his knee hadn't hit the ground first, which is what showed up on the replay. There's no question that Rodgers is a more explosive runner than Jacquemain, which adds an offensive weapon to the arsenal. If the coaches thought Rodgers' passing, decision-making and leadership were at least equal to Jacquemain's, there's no doubt he'd be the starter.

I hope we don't start splitting the qb duties. Whenever that happens you looking for nothing but inconsistentcy & trouble. I would prefer Rogers over Jaq, but JD is the coach. That is why he makes the big bucks.

The bottom line is do we have a QB that can take us to the MAC Championship??? We need to look to the Coach's to make that decision. The whole student body and Zip Nation is looking for them to make the right decision. Let's hope they can evaluate talent. Go Zips!!! Beat the Hooziers!!!

Look at the picture from the Beacon. The ball popped out of his hand before his knee went down, and we lucked out that the he and the ball went out of bounds before the pylon or it would have been Bears ball. Not taking anything away from Rodgers, he is becoming a good athlete. But his pass decisioning still needs work. Almost threw a pick six because he didn't look at what was going on, he just made the fake and chucked to where the receiver should have been. They are trying to establish that Rodgers can indeed throw the ball. If they can do that, then they can run a "wild cat" style with Rodgers being in there. If it looks like they fear throwing the ball with him, then it takes away one the three factos he brings. They still need Jacq to manage the game.(only in NEO do we say the guy that went 3-6 and a combined 3-8 in two games should "be the starter" over the guy with 340 yards passing and 4 td's to 1 int)*edit* With all this said, Rodgers is too good of an athlete to not utilize him in some capacity. They need to find a way to have him and Jacq on the field at the same time.

Don't do the rest of the country an injustice. Everybody's favorite player is the 2nd string QB ;)

So true.-------------JD's line since spring has been "Rodgers is going to play" I have translated that as he is going to come into games as he has been doing. I like the change of pace until he comes in and fumbles or gets picked looking at one receiver. I have yet to see him look at a second receiver and throw it to him. Maybe it's just due to lack of experience. We will see. I would guess that if Rodgers started a game right now the offense would get very predictable, that's why I am for using him as a change of pace.

That's an interesting photo that shows a lot more than the video replay. It does look as if he's losing control of the ball just as his knee is touching the 1-yard line. But if his knee is going down at the 1-yard line, that means the ball should be within inches of crossing the plane of the goal line.Beacon Photo Link

That's a completely different look than the angle I had. Nice shot, Beacon. I take back what I said about the refs on that play.

Playing Rodgers now is smart. It's a way to avoid the disaster that was the 2007 season because now we'll have a QB with significant game experience. We can work out the rookie mistakes without them costing the game.

I still like Jacq as the starter, but seeing Rodgers running ability was exciting. It's too bad Jacq is sooo slow (I still can't believe he was originally recruited as a WR? No way.) If we had a QB with just a little more scrambling ability than what Jacq has, man, the the spread offense we run could be devastating. With the defense so spread out it looks like there are running lanes - for a scrambling QB - on nearly every pass play.Btw, does anyone know what kind of scrambling ability Patrick Nicely has? I know he was rated one of the best Pro-Style QB's in the country last year, but in the spread offense it looks to me like a dual-threat QB would be killer.

I've heard Nicely can flat out make plays, he was clocked at a combine running a 4.6 40yd dash. He rushed for some TD's in High School. I googled his name and found some good stuff. W eneed to take care of the Hoosiers Saturday. Go Zips!!

I prefer to think of it as the coaches thinking that they have seen Jacq's ceiling, want more, and are giving Rodgers shots at game experience to see what he can do. He is far more athletic than Jacq and I think that if he shows flushes or if the O performs more effectively with him he'll be eased into the starting job. I believe that the staff is giving him opportunities to take that starting job. It's now up to him to make it happen. STZ

I believe that defensive coaches are going to start to focus on that and jump Bowser's routes.
