I have been WAY pessimistic this week. Please please let me be off by a mile this week.CMU: 48UA: 13If I am right, and please please let me be wrong, Saturday night marks the start of the ZN semi-official JD Death Pool. <<--[Herein I clarify that by Death Pool, I refer only to his being unceremoniously fired by Wistrcill during mid-season.]By the way, for Zips Win and other eternal optimists on the board, look, I'M CHEERING FOR THE ZIPS! I'M CHEERING FOR THE ZIPS!!! GO ZIPS!!! :) STZ

Wow!
See, it IS possible to cheer the program like a front runner but also be demanding and aspire to bigger and better for the program! Many of us here are living proof. :D STZ

Really....y'all are some real dreamers if you think this team is going to beat the Chips. I'm thinking the real question is can LeFevour throw for 600 yards? Our 10 yard cushion pass defense will be picked apart all day long by LeFevour -- I'm not sure if they'll even run the ball. I'm putting the score at 48-10 with our seven coming in garbage time. I've got no faith in Rodgers and the defensive backfield couldn't cover anyone last week against an average at best QB.

Well....I guess the only saving grace if we drop to 1-3 after this week, is that I think nobody is going to breeze through the East division this year. So, we can at least hold onto a chance to play for the MAC championship. I'm just trying to stay positive. Just like some of you think when it comes to basketball, maybe we can all hope that at the end of the season, when it really matters, we'll be playing good enough to steal the East title, and appear in the MAC championship game.I'm not thinking there is any chance that JD would get the boot in mid-season, however that 3-game stretch of @NIU, @Syracuse, and @Buffalo has the potential to really bury our season, unless we get it together in a hurry. However I do expect, regardless of how this year turns out, that the new AD will be taking a really close look at whether we can improve the leadership of our football program. Prediction for this week? CMU has even handled us well at home over the last few years, and we never seem to play well at their place. I'll be happy if we can at least make it a game, and stay within a couple of touchdowns. CMU 34 Akron 21...and we'll miss at least one field goal.

Here is a run down of the last two games...In 2006, Akron's last trip to Mt. Pleasant, the Zips were coming off the high of defeating N.C. State for the program's first win ever over a BCS program. However, CMU's Josh Gordy had a 100-yard interception return for a TD and then freshman Dan LeFevour completed 16-of-23 for 162 yards while rushing for 67 yards on 10 attempts. Akron rallied, scoring with 11 seconds left to make the score 24-21, but UA did not recover the ensuing on-side kick, providing the final margin. In 2007 - the last time the schools met - Central came to the Rubber Bowl on a cold and snowy day the day after Thanksgiving (Nov. 23). The Chippewas scored twice inside the final seven minutes, including a one-yard LeFevour plunge with 1:31 left for a 35-32 win. Down 12 with 8:08 left, LeFevour had a four-play, 57-yard drive that only used 1:05, capped with a 30-yard TD pass to Kito Poblah. Akron looked to put the game out of reach, but a penalty would ultimately force the Zips to punt. Five plays and 53 yards, covering 1:12, put CMU on top as LeFevour scored on a quarterback sneak.

Hey C. Mich. Fan Do you have a couple of Chippewa tribesmen do a sacred war dance at midfield during the week to put the whammy on marauding marsupials from Australia and/or Akron?
Nah. We save the special ceremonies for when WMU comes to town. ;)
You better save something for NIU this year, too. They're rock solid.
