Buckzip Posted July 23, 2005 Report Posted July 23, 2005 The roster is lilsted on the UA website. As usual, some of the freshman aren't listed. Kemme, Hight, whom we all expected, and Garner. Garner is the biggest loss IMHO. We all knew Hight wouldn't make it, but Garner looked like a stud. It doesn't matter if we sign good classes, if the best players don't ever see the field. zipboy Posted July 23, 2005 Report Posted July 23, 2005 I was pretty sure that Garner was a Prop 48 from the start so that does not surprise me. Quote
zipboy Posted July 23, 2005 Report Posted July 23, 2005 Overall, I am pretty pleased in looking at the roster. Some quick observations 1. Balaam is still on the list. That does not mean that he will show up, but at least as of now plans are that he will be. 2. Benjamin from Glenville is on the roster. I thought someone mentioned grades were a concern with him. On a downside, Myron Howard is not listed. He must have decided to stick with track. 3. Terricko Marshall is on the roster. I thought that he was a probable prop 48 candidate. He may get some playing time early on. 4. Rich Spaulding moves to RB. Poor guy, this must be his 8th position by now? 5. Sam Walker not listed on the roster. Quote
zff Posted July 23, 2005 Report Posted July 23, 2005 Garner was quoted in a Pittsburgh paper saying the an all star game last month was going ot be his only game this year because he was being redshirted. Really he is a Prop 48. Every year you have to take a chance on a couple guys whi would be playing at a bigger if their grades were not in order. I think we will see Coach Brookhart keeping a better eye on these kids than the former staff. Hopefully Balaam decied to stick at Akron. I thin he could be coming off the bench this season. Walker came in as a DL and then moved to OL. I think he saw the writing on the wall and decided to stop playing or move on to another school. Quote
Sloopy Posted July 23, 2005 Report Posted July 23, 2005 I live in Columbus and know some of this stuff. He be da scoopage. Walker is done - medical casulty. Same for Dennis Basch and Gruber. All three never to play again. Balaam has been working out with the team for the past month. You folks were the only ones saying he would not come. Spaulding could play all 22 positions and he would still be a D-II player. Nice kid, can't play. The recruiting class has not suffered because of people not showing up or being ineligible. If you do not take chances at Akron or in the MAC overall, basketball or football, you are going to get left behind. The biggest surprises of last year's recruiting class will not be talked about for at least a year if the coaches are planning for the future. You know a program is in 911 stages if they are playing true freshmen. After working the Akron camp I am confident they will have a solid season. Maybe not as many wins as last year, in large part because they are very young and inexperienced players in the top 44. Early they will look bad and midway through the season those kids are going to mature into a fine ballclub. I would not want to be a MAC team playing Akron after Mid-October because they may be one of the better tems in the league by then. Quote
Buckzip Posted July 24, 2005 Author Report Posted July 24, 2005 Sloppy, are you another Buck, and Zip fan? Quote
InTheZone Posted July 24, 2005 Report Posted July 24, 2005 Don't look at this roster as a final one. Many of the guys listed are still depending on summer school credits to be eligible, and many are enrolled in Summer 3 which starts tomorrow. As for Balaam, I've heard nothing about him working out with the team. As for Benjamin, regardless of his grades, I heard from one of the guys that he had some sort of accident or mishap that landed him in the hospital. I'll try to get more details as soon as I can. Dr Z Posted July 25, 2005 Report Posted July 25, 2005 I live in Columbus and know some of this stuff. Walker is done - medical casulty. Same for Dennis Basch and Gruber. All three never to play again. Last I heard (two weeks ago), from a very reliable source, was that Dennis was cleared by one doctor and waiting on a second opinion to be cleared. Sounded pretty positive, did something go bad ??? Quote

Now a bit of bad news on Jemal Benjamin, apparently the story is he got clubbed in the head while sleeping by someone, don't know the whole story, but he's in the hospital with a pretty serious head injury. That's all I've heard right now. Quote
