ctmjbowes@sbcglobal.net Posted October 11, 2009 Report Posted October 11, 2009 Wow, you just reminded me of another bone of contention that I've had with the coaching staff this year. Remember early that JD bragged about having a healthy team to start the season because they had done very little contact work in camp. I remember thinking "Uh oh, that's not good" when I read his quote. The only team I've ever been aware of that played well after limited contact in camp was the SF 49ers under Bill Walsh. Of course, many of the stars on that team conducted almost legendary off-season conditioning and were talented as hell, with a then-revolutionary offensive system. They made limited contact in practice work for them. Other than that team, any time I hear a coach talk about limiting contact in practice I cringe. This team started the season healthy all right. How has that worked out for them? I like tough teams that HIT HIT HIT in practice and camp. I want the Zips to be tough as hell, hit hard, physically dominate the other team. The defense has started to hit hard in the last couple games, but overall I've had the impression this season that the Zips have played soft and haven't tackled well much of the time. One more reason I'll be happy to see JD head out of town!STZ Quote

infofan Posted October 12, 2009 Report Posted October 12, 2009 Why is coaching staff so tight lipped about injuries. We were misled last year to believe Bain had an injury when in fact he had eligibility/drug issues. This year we could go on and on about our players injuries but never hear their status. Dale Martin, Bain, Torrence, Alex Allen, Almondo Sewell,Matt Rogers now, etc. It goes on and on.... We who are into the Zips want to know their status but we hear NOTHING!!!!!!!!! What is the secrecy? The coaches seem to have an agenda which exludes the fans. Quote

What is the secrecy? The coaches seem to have an agenda which exludes the fans. Some of that is based on the player. Just like any other medical issue it is 100% private, so it is up to the player to give the ok to the staff to release the information. The Bain issue last year had more to do with the appeal than anything else. As soon as the final appeal was defeated by the NCAA they let us know the situation. But a good coach is not going to come out and say "Our player was accused of using a banned substance, we are appealing." Why? Because look at this board, as soon as anything remotely negative happens, people think and create the worst. They tell us that last year, 3 days later someone is on here claiming to be the guy that sold Bain the HGH (which he didn't use by the way it was an OTC product from GNC which has since been pulled). Enough spread and 3-3-5 pattycake crapFor the record the "3-3-5 pattycake" only allowed 12 points to be scored on it, despite 5 turnovers and the fact that the team came in averaging 28 points a game. Captain Kangaroo Posted October 12, 2009 Report Posted October 12, 2009 It may be a matter of perception but their seems to be an Extrordinary high number if injuries to this team. Is it bad training or frail playersSo who's hurt? Rodgers and...?Bain has never played, so he doesn't count. How many WR's are hurt? Zero. How many DL's are hurt? Off the top on my head...zero? If Sewell is hurt...look at his body and tell me he is in bad condition.RB is healthy, with the exception of Allen. And blown ACL's coupled with broken hips will slow you down. This Zips team is as healthy as any team in the nation. There are so many legitimate things to complain about regarding the team...injuries? No way. Quote

Imagine if they had a system conducive to consistintly performing against all types of offensive attack.Or imagine that it doesn't matter what the defense is, it's about players being in the right place during plays. During the CMU game they used a lot of misdirection when they ran, plus accounting for LeFevour, our guys over pursued. They went back and preached playing your area and all the times that OU tried reverses and misdirection, it got shut down. They corrected for the option at a half-time and that got shut down in the second half.If defensive scheme mattered then there would be one defensive scheme. But there are many 4-4, 5-2, 4-3, 3-4, 3-3-5, 42. Why? Because athletes very from team to team. We have a ton of talented tweeners, the 3-3-5 gets the most athletes on the field. Do I think we could run a 3-4? Yes, we have the speed at linebacker, but no way can we run a 4-3.Anyway, I digress, this is supposed to be about injuries. As far as I know Rodgers - ACL, and Sewell walked off on his own feet. Quote

Scratch that off my list captain"The definite loss of Bowser, Williams and quarterback Matt Rodgers (ACL injury on Oct. 10) means that the Zips now have 13 scholarship players out for the season, most of them through injury."http://www.ohio.com/sports/64836832.htmlAdd in the dings and we are rolling. I guess the coaching staff is quiet aboout them Quote
