ZachTheZip
http://web1.ncaa.org/app_data/weeklyrpi/2009MSOrpi1.htmlThe final regular season RPIs are out, and Akron finally holds the top spot. The RPIs will not be updated between now and Selection Sunday. This is what the selection committee will see when seeding teams. Of course, they will also look to see if any team has lost in a conference tournament since now and they'll use some other metrics as well, but this is the most important one. tbozeglav
This is awesome news. Im glad that the RPI is finally putting Akron where they rightfully should be then !!!!!!!
MDZip
So when we win the MAC, there should be no excuse for not getting the overall number 1 seed in the tournament. I'd really like to avoid UCLA, Wake and UNC until the final four, but getting any of the top four seeds would be good so at least we'd get all home games (we think). Z.I.P.
Glad to see the Zippers move up to the #1 slot, but man, this list makes me wonder! How in the world can Santa Barbara and Louisville be #32 and 34 with their wins? And Dayton with 13 wins is just #74. How do they get so far behind e.g., Harvard and Tulsa? Hopefully the committee will not rely too much on this RPI scheme, and leave out deserving teams.
MDZip
I used to think these numbers were a travesty - like Indiana getting a #6 RPI while losing 8 games but they really do have a brutal schedule. Their average oppoent RPI is 37.6. I think they still may have been a little overly rewarded with a hard schedule and losing almost half of them, but by comparison I also did Louisville and Akron. Lousiville, a good team but with a few losses has an average opponent RPI of 84 and are rated low. Akron is 73.4 so as tough a schedule as we think we played, Indiana really did have a hard one, so it's good we won them all. It appears that scheduling really is the biggest component (more important than wins apparently). I even did our out of conference RPI and its a very respectable 47.5 but its still lower than Indiana's overall. Indiana St. John's (21) Bloomington, Ind. Z.I.P.
does anyone know why the MAC tourney is down to 4 teams!Lack of interest? They could just as well cancel it this year -- since only one team has any chance of making the past-season -- no matter what happens! I guess that puts a little pressure on that one team, but maybe they need pressure, and the practice NIU and Hartwick will offer. I bet we lead HU at halftime this time (provided they beat - WMU?). GoZips
The Zips picked up some sweet help Wednesday."No. 2 North Carolina battled the elements and No. 20 NC State for 110 minutes of scoreless soccer Wednesday in Atlantic Coast Conference Championship quarterfinal action, but the Tar Heels were eliminated on penalty kicks, 4-1, at WakeMed Soccer Park."UNC certainly was in strong contention for one of the coveted top four seeds in the NCAA tournament. This quarter final loss just might have knocked UNC back a notch. Time will tell.
