HulaZip Posted November 28, 2009 Report Posted November 28, 2009 I heard the football staff was let go this morning. Quote
LosAngelesZipFan Posted November 28, 2009 Report Posted November 28, 2009 What a strange year it turned out to be, made all the worse by expectations. Someone should make a top ten list of the bizarre stuff that happened. This would make my list: adding 2 former head coaches to split the offense between them and ending up with the entirely wrong talent at QB and RB, a porous OL, and playcalling dominated by shotgun handoffs up the middle. How can you have 3 offense oriented head coaches and still end up with all that??It's a bummer about JD-- there was a moment in time that really felt like he was going to lead us to someplace great. But, the writing was really on the wall a couple of years ago. Quote
Lee Adams Posted November 28, 2009 Report Posted November 28, 2009 It's official.Linklooks like go-zips.com has already removed the names of the staff for this year..do you suppose the new AD already has someone in mind?... Quote
ZachTheZip Posted November 28, 2009 Report Posted November 28, 2009 I'll be keeping an eye here for any rumors about a new HC Quote

zip37 Posted November 28, 2009 Report Posted November 28, 2009 Well, at least I can quit beating a dead horse! I sure hope they get it right this time. Best of fortune to JD. Quote
InTheZone Posted November 28, 2009 Report Posted November 28, 2009 A lot of good guys on that staff. Mauro Monz and Dana Chambers were two guys I always enjoyed talking to and had a lot of respect for. Hope they land on their feet somewhere soon. Quote
ctmjbowes@sbcglobal.net Posted November 28, 2009 Report Posted November 28, 2009 They'll all land on their feet. No gnashing of teeth here please. These gentlemen (and I mean that) all chose a VERY public and brutally competitive profession. This staff produced terrible results, they had to go. I wish for each that they learned from UA and will have success wherever they go. Now GO fellas, and let's start the excitement of a new era in Zippers football! Quote
fear the brown roo Posted November 28, 2009 Report Posted November 28, 2009 from my limited experiences with JD and his staff, i'll say they all were classy and good men. it was time for a change which will be best for all involved. i haven't seen any personal bashing of these guys on this site and i think it says a lot for the staff. Zipsrifle Posted November 29, 2009 Report Posted November 29, 2009 Seems JD had nothing but positive comments for Akron on his way out. Who knows, maybe he is a bit relieved it is over. Regardless, thanks JD for your effort, I firmly believe you did your best and that is all one can do. Good luck in the future! Quote
dreal1scout Posted November 29, 2009 Report Posted November 29, 2009 I had the pleasure to meet both Coach Mauro Monz and JD. Both are Good Guys in my book. I wish the best for both of them. I'm sure they feel the ZN pain. Unfortunately, it is/was just a case of if only..... I know they tried. God bless them for their efforts. Quote
ZachTheZip Posted November 29, 2009 Report Posted November 29, 2009 I've met a few guys on the coaching staff, all of them were good guys. I know that they were frustrated at least as much as we were over this season. But it's time to go in a different direction.I wish them all the best. There are plenty of guys that will find a spot on another staff next season, if Akron decides not to keep any of them. Quote

Hindsight is 20/20 but I suppose this potential scenario was overlooked by most of us (me too) when Shane and Walt were brought on. I've mentioned my admiration for Vince Okruch before, but I really hope that the new HC looks at him as a potential DC. He's been EXCELLENT in this role in the past. I know it's unlikely, but I can still hope. Quote

That is a failure of THE HEAD COACH to not control his staff. JD brought in all these alpha-male former head coaches thinking their experience would help. However, with too many cooks in the kitchen..... Quote
ZIPFB#1 Posted November 30, 2009 Report Posted November 30, 2009 I too am a Vince Okruch fan. I would like to see him at least considered for the job. Quote
