KAjunRaider
And how many years have you been in 1-A? Made the trip to Akron last year, and lost a couple of our fans in the beer garden. No beer garden in M'boro, however, but plenty of cold suds in the tailgating areas. Zipsrifle
I think the biggest D1-A win was against Marshall in 2002. They were nationally ranked at the time and we shocked them at home. That is the game where Leftwich got hurt, and Akron went from having a joke of a Defnese, to being "Too Rough" according to several media outlets. UA Fan
I agree. That would have to be the biggest 1A win since Marshall was a top-25 team at the time. But since they were a MAC opponent it doesn't seem quite as special to me as if we had beaten a Wisconsin or Penn State. Plus they helped us a lot with 5 or 6 turnovers and Leftwich playing crippled. Still was a fun night though. In 1987, Akron became the first football program to move from 1AA to 1A (with Gerry Faust as coach) and we joined the MAC in 1992. Now, back at ya...what is the biggest win ever in MT football?
StephenWiley
Please do not laugh but we are fairly proud of our two Vanderbilt victories. Knocking you guys off last year was a very big win as well (you guys were favored by 7)... When we beat Vanderbilt they were favored by 8..... With regards to upsetting a favorite based on points I believe those are the two biggest wins in school history.

theboro
Our biggest win was no doubt Vandy in '01. They had a senior laden squad and we were going into our third year of D-I ball. It was a thursday night game to open the season and everyone was wondering if we had a legit shot at building a D-I program. We racked up over 600 yards of offense on what had been one of the best defenses in the SEC for the previous four or five years. We went on to go 8-3 with losses to NT, Ole Miss, and LSU. Thought we were on the verge of something special and then Andy really got his hands on the program and proceded to run it into the ground. UA Fan
The Navy win was a lot of fun. Sure was. I was there. Their announcers were acting like Akron was just the remedy Navy needed for a sure win and when they got an early lead on us they were taking it to the bank. Some teen-kids were yelling a bunch of smack in the stands until the Zips started scoring at will in the 4th qtr...then they got real quiet. I know I'll get burned one day. I'll either have to beg someone give me the play by on the board, or just mope around the house till the final score comes out. I know, I'm cheap. I won't learn my lesson until it happens though.
