ZachTheZip Posted January 16, 2010 Report Posted January 16, 2010 I'm kinda glad we jumped onto the coaching carousel as early as we did. Losing a head coach this late into the process is a killer.I do hope he jumps, though. The MAC East gets a whole lot easier without him in the picture and with Turner Gill already gone. Quote
johnnyzip84 Posted January 18, 2010 Author Report Posted January 18, 2010 The following link is entirely from a Temple perspective, so take it for what it's worth. Evidently, Golden has turned down the ECU job. And if you can believe this blog, Golden thinks Temple will be "loaded" next year. Even if that's not completely true, it sure seems as though the Owls will be a MAC handful the next few years unless perhaps Penn State DOES indeed come calling for Al.LinkThis makes the verbal from Anthony Holmes that much sweeter Quote
Zip Watcher Posted January 18, 2010 Report Posted January 18, 2010 I have no idea what the salaries involved are, but wouldn't Temple be a way better place to be than ECU? Seems like the upside in Philly is really limitless for him if he keeps the Owls on their current trajectory.Go Zips! Quote
ZachTheZip Posted January 18, 2010 Report Posted January 18, 2010 Golden makes about $600k at Temple. The ECU job is going for about $1.5 million. Around here ECU doesn't get much respect for some reason, but it is a much better job than Temple. Quote

Seems like the upside in Philly is really limitless for him if he keeps the Owls on their current trajectory.Go Zips! The only thing Temple has going for it over ECU is it's proximity to Atlantic City and casinos. ECU gets 55,000 per game. Typically, that includes 50% beach bums and 50% rural people. If he has a good season at ECU, he is a God. If he has a good season at Temple, he is just another team in Philadelphia. The one thing about any team's trajectory in the MAC is most schools don't put too much rocket fuel in their rocket. You can easily go from good team to bum quickly. Look at Buffalo. Look at the Zips 2006. Even if ECU slides a little, they can still make a bowl. Quote
Sergeant Zip Posted January 21, 2010 Report Posted January 21, 2010 I do hope he jumps, though. The MAC East gets a whole lot easier without him in the picture and with Turner Gill already gone.Starting quarterback Zach Maynard has decided to leave the Buffalo football program. Quote

Keeping good QBs is the key to teams getting good and the conference having any chance of being successful. Plus, in both fball and bball, there is somewhat of a budding rivalry starting with 'The Team Up North" (I know those that hate OSU will hate that I did that..eh, whatev.) Quote
zipboy Posted January 22, 2010 Report Posted January 22, 2010 Ruffin McNeal Texas Tech DC was just hired. Quote
johnnyzip84 Posted January 22, 2010 Author Report Posted January 22, 2010 It seems like ECU was turned down by quite a few coaches (Golden, Stockstill, possibly Clawson and a few others). With Sonny Dykes now at La Tech apparently the dominoes have stopped falling for this off-season. Quote
