What makes you think they'll shut up? This is going to be a tough one, make no mistake about it. Novak is a very good coach, and they have a great RB.

Our guys better come out rarin' to go, because this may be the second best team they will face all season (after Purdue). I make no predictions on this one.

I hear you Zipper! We're still a young team, and though I am very excited, this will be a very tough game. Remember, these guys spaked us last year. We need to see continued improvement to stay competitive in this one. If we play the same as last week, the final score will be 17-42 instead of 17-7. Their OL is awesome (don't they have an All American in there?) and Wolf and Harris are avg. over 7 yards per carry. Sounds like they don't have much of a passing attack (or at least their fans aren't very confident in their QB) and they have some doubt as to their passing defense.

Defense could be the difference in this one. If the Zips D continues to improve, we should be able to keep their running game reasonable (I don't know if anyone can stop them, over 200 yards against Michigan). The more effective the D is against their running game, the better. I think the Offense will need to score early and often too. They are going to put up some points, we'll need to also. 17 points ain't gonna cut it!

Bottom line, we'll need to play a near flawless game to win this one. This team has suprised me twice this year, so I am not going to count them out. I'm expecting a battle, and hopefully the new attitude Zips can pull off another Upset!

Obviously, we have no real indicator of our team's abilities, as yet. Playing Purdue, in their big house, with a new QB against a veteran D, tells me little. Our men had some moments (not flushes!!!) of brilliance, and I was encouraged by a lot of things. However, we should have rocked MTSU, IMO.

There is some flaming on the Northern Ill boards. But this was expected. They are very good, however, they haven't been tested yet, either. You cannot read anything significant into their Michigan loss nor their win against 1-AA Tenn. Tech.

I am the etenal optimist, however. I know that JD is upgrading the program by leaps and bounds, we've played well at the Rubber Bowl and it is our home opener.

Any thoughts on crowd size Saturday?

Rumor has it tons of ex ballers are meeting up for a GIANT tailgate this week.......like starting at noon or something outrageous like that..........but what would I know?

ILFSITF (and some other strange game days stuck into this years schedule)

BuckZip,

Here is why I hate The OSU....

First of all everybody likes OSU. It does not matter where they went to college or where in Ohio they live. Why do they like them because they win football games and because well everybody else likes them.

Secondly because of them no other school in Ohio counts. The media will still talk about OSU over any other D-1 school. Look at the Beacon they would rather send three people to Columbus to cover a game but won't send somebody down the street to get a real interview from the Zips. And the same goes for the Plain Dealer.

ZFF,

Let me explain to you why I am an OSU fan. I feel you are wrong in your description of why most people are OSU fans.

When I was a kid, my dad took us to the Acme Zip game every year. It was a blast, I remember the RB usually being pretty full.

Akron was a DII school. I looked at them as almost a step above high school.

When they played in the Pioneer Bowl, I was so proud. That was my home town team.

Meanwhile, I would see OSU on TV, read about them in the newspaper, and see them in those fancy bowl games on New Years day. They were bigger than life.

They were Ohio State, I was from Ohio. It seemed like a perfect fit. After all, I was a kid.

I grew up cheering for them. If I only liked them because they won, or because everyone else did, I would have been a Notre Dame fan.

Eventually UA moved up to D1AA, and then D1. By that time I was already a huge OSU fan, and followed them closely.

I am a UA alum, and attend at least 3 games per year.

I can't give up my love for OSU, just because I got older. When OSU, and Akron played, I rooted for AKron. WInning that game would put Akron on the map.

It's not fair to hate OSU because the leaking journal sucks. OSU has great tradition, and is fun to watch. I admit it may be hard to start being a fan of the 2 at this time.

After all, they play each other. However, I can't give up a lifetime of being a fan just because UA moved up into the same division.

It is possible to like both schools.

Luckeyes, suckeyes, whatever. I have always been, and always will be a UA fan, and I have always been, and will always be an OSU fan. Nothing can change that.

Hi everyone, Huskie fan here. I, and a few others, think this game is going to be closer than many think. Yes, we do have a good OL along with Wolfe and Harris. One of our OL, Doug Free, has had some talk about being a possible first round draft pick. I hope it is not after this season since he is a junior! Wolfe has a minor shoulder problem, but I think it is from last year. He is expected to play this Saturday. There is a lot of talk about our QB Phil Horvath, and whether or not he is doing a good job. Some are hoping to see more of our backup, Britt Davis. He is a mobile type of QB and he will probably get the starting job in a few years. But right now, it is Phil and from what I have seen, I have no complaints.

The complaints I do have come from the defense. Taking away the performance against 1AA Tennessee Tech, the defense leaves much to be desired. Against Michigan and Northwestern, there was no pressure on their QB and so far no sacks, nor did we stop them on almost all of their drives. Not to mention the fact that we seemed to not know how to tackle. Our best LB is gone for the year, thus making our young D even younger. Perhaps in a year or two this D will get better, but I don't know. It will be interesting to see how we do in conference play. Hopefully they are quick learners, or we will be in trouble.

I'm not sure how many Huskie fans will be there. I hope it is a sell-out for your home opener. With the way Miami and Bowling Green have performed, you may win the East.

Here's to an exciting, injury-free game this Saturday!!

Good post Spud, don't know about a sell out since unfortunately many of our fans will stay home just to watch OSU, but it'll be a great game nontheless.  Here's to a safe ride for all the Huskie fans making the trip and a clean, injury free game.

OSU plays at noon and will be done by 3:30. Zips game is at 6:00. There is no time conflict. Go to the Rubber Bowl to tailgate and see a good game.

Good deal. I'd heard somewhere they were playing at 4 but glad to see they aren't.

ZFF expressed my sentiments exactly.

At least now a days you have a choice for college football.

ESPN, FSN & other sports packages. When I was growing up all I could watch was Columbus U.

When I was nine and nieve I thought that was the team I was suppossed to root for because they were Ohio,

but then I grew up.

Texas :nutkick: Bucknuts

PS Pittsburgh (110 miles) is closer to Akron than Columbus (120 miles) so if you root for Columbus U because you think they are closer, you mind as well root for Arm Pitt.

Sorry, I never grew up then. :wall:

It has nothing to do with proximity.

I guess according to your logic. Only people from Akron are allowed to be Zip fans.

On another board there is a guy from New Jersey that is a Zips fan. He said he has followed them for a long time. He became interested in Akron because of the name.

He has been a fan for over 20 years.

I will be sure in our next discussion to tell him that he needs to only cheer for Rutgers, because that is his local school. :wall:

I hope your favorite sports team are all Cleveland teams. After all, they are the closest.

That's why they are my teams, but you have different logic than I do.

I try to have a civil conservation, and you start attacking.

Amazing!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
