Any word on who the Soccer Zips have signed? [i'm assuming today is signing day.]
I could be wrong, but I think LOI day for soccer, and many other sports is the same as Spring LOI day for basketball. Anyone know for sure? In any case, the list is available on the threads below.

Soccer LOI day is tomorrow (2-3-2010), the same as football, but the period runs longer.NCAA Source

Signing day is tomorrow. It will get overshadowed by football, especially with the football coach hitting the sports talk show circuit.
Soccer tends to announce later even though the dates are the same. I think Akron officially announced last year's class on February 9th, a week or so after football.

Balogun is listed at top of Akron list at ESPN Risehttp://sports.espn.go.com/highschool/rise/...tory?id=3860470But after much searching, only references are with USA teams and youth all-star lists from circa 2004 -- as teammate of Ampai! Anybody find anything? The name DOES ring a bell, somehow.Other new names: Jared Watts, US U-17 star to Wake Forest; Shaquille Philips, fast-riser w/US-U-17 to Duke, Sunny Jane -- another of the Louisville-based South African players goes to Maryland. Also, of local interest, Wright State has three Stark County players, two from Jackson, one from Perry on their list.

I don't think too many folks from Akron would consider Wright State to be of local interest, but if they are interested The Raiders have one sorry ass excuse for a soccer team. :) Look a smiley face.

Balogun doesn't fit the typical mold of a college recruit. Kind of a mystery.Guess we'll have to wait for the soccer team to release their signees list to get some info.
Here's the story I pieced together from multiple sources (And it's a funny -- but not funny ha ha -- story):Balogun finished high school in 2007 -- he's now 21 yo. Yo! He was recruited by Cal State Fullerton, but was disqualified by the NCAA qualifying personnel after months of waiting in the OC. He attended three different high schools in Houston, as well as, I assume the IMG Academy during his residency in Bradenton, which was from 2004-2005. He played in the midfield for various US teams along with Tony Ampaipitakwong, so I'd guess the relationship remains.Where Michael has been for the past two+ years after he left SoCal, I have no idea. BUT -- it looks like he still has at least three, and probably four years of eligibility remaining. Hopefully he's at least been kickin' a football around these last years.

The recruiting class has been announced.Michael Balogun, Perry Kitchen, Reinaldo Brenes, Martin Ontiveros, Richard Diaz Jr., Gabe Genovesi and Andrian McAdams are all Zips!
So according to Gozips.com, the Nigeria-born Balogun has just two years of eligibility remaining. Strange, since from what I have been able to gather, he has never played a college game. Another doff of the "Screw You" cap to (and from) the NCAA! Here you go, Michael. NCAA :nutkick: Michael Balogun

I don't want to say too much, but he was ready to commit to another major soccer school before his NCAA paperwork got botched. In fact, he was in attendance at the College Cup in Cary, NC cheering for that other school.

Genovesi, a recruit coming in next season to Akron ran a 1:51.23 in the open 800m earlier this week. Not soccer related, I know, but thought it may deserve an "Ooorah" considering he is a incoming Zip. His time puts him in the top 10 in the U.S. for 800m times this season. Here are some remarks on another forum about the run (and they mention Akron). http://www.talk.dyestat.com/showthread.php?t=112993

I love getting athletes in football/basketball/soccer who also ran track.

Frankly, I see what is happening with Caleb's recruiting and the overall athleticism on the pitch as a return to the days of old -- like when I was a student. ;) In the 70s, it was easy to see that the best athletes on campus were the soccer players. I suspect after the school went to D-1 in all sports, the football and basketball -- and track teams were able to recruit better all-around athletes, but once again I would not be surprised if our soccer players are the all-around most athletic mansters on UA.

Genovesi was named Wisconsin's Track and Field Athlete of the Year. For good measure here he is in competition at the State Championship in the 800m - http://www.flotrack.org/videos/play/339064...eter-run-heat-2 and the 4x400m (he runs the last leg of the relay) - http://www.flotrack.org/videos/play/339670

The replay of the Championship on television here consisted of the commentators talking about Akron soccer everytime his name was mentioned. Other athletes at the meet have signed to run track at other colleges or play at various football programs around the US. Not once was a football program or track program mentioned. It was all Akron soccer.
